Formatting Dates In Excel

Jan 21, 2009

I have this really weird problem, in excel I'm using a user form to get the date from the user. I used the calendar control in toolbox. So when the user selects the date it goes to its text box, still in the user form correctly formatted as dd/mm/yy.

Formatting Dates And Times In Arabic?

Sep 10, 2010

I am having issues with the Arabic language when trying to display dates and times. I seem to be unable to get the formatting to work on a date, or on a time, but it works on a date and time. Other languages seem to be fine. Any thoughts on why this is? (see image link below) Also, the Arabic formatted date is very different than the normal date (e.g. 8/20/2010 is showing as 10/09/31). Is this accurate?

Formatting Data Into Custom String Including Dates

Sep 13, 2010

In my app I present to the user an option to customize the name of the file that gets produced. The format string the program reads is something like "yyyyMMdd-%1-%2-%3-%4" which the user can customize to his liking. In this case the format of the date is yyyyMMdd and the %1 is the trip number like 1000P, %2 is the origin code like PTTTT, %3 is the destination code like PHYUD, and %4 is a secondary stop code like YYYY123. I'm having problems taking the actual data and formatting into the custom string. I believe its the date format that I'm getting stuck on.

So far I have
sOut = txtFormatPattern.Text
sOut = sOut.Replace("%1", "1000P")
sOut = sOut.Replace("%2", "PTTTT")
sOut = sOut.Replace("%3", "PHYUD")
sOut = sOut.Replace("%4", "YYYY123")
sOut = myDate.ToString(sOut) 'date is July 01, 2007

The output is "20070701-#1000P-PTTTTP12YUD (YYYY123)"

The problem obviously here is my last conversion. The string contains key characters that denote a part of the date specifically in PHYUD. So my question is how can I give my user the flexibility to format the output as they wish and then convert that properly?

VS 2010 Formatting Dates And Times In Update Statement?

Nov 27, 2011

I have now started posting to a MySQL database created by someone else. I have no ability to change the table structure.Two questions:

1) There is a date field and a time field that loosely tracks the last edit date and time. Both are fields set up as DateTime in the database. The date field always has the proper date but the date and time portion shows as

2011-11-27 00:00:00

However, the time field shows as

1899-12-30 23:16:58.

When I am updating with the following code

strSQLCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@EditDate", Date.Now)
strSQLCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@EditTime", TimeOfDay)
The date field displays
2011-11-27 23:40:26
and the time field displays
0001-01-01 23:40:26

I'm not sure how to format the date field without time and the time field with Dec 30 1899.Question 2) I will be adding some tables and will be wanting to track date and time of first entry as well as date and time of last edit. (this may have been better posted in the Database forum, if so, sorry)

For those of you who have done this before, would you mind sharing best practises? I am wondering why would you use two fields, one for date and one for time, when the field is a date/time field to begin with. I've seen this before in another database as well. I'm just trying to work out the logic here.

Formatting Excel From VB2010?

I am an Engineer and have been programming VB6 for 10 years and now writing in VB2010 Professional.I am trying to write technical data to Excel which works fine with this code: In a module I dimension

Public appExcel As Object
Public wbook As Object
Public wsheet As Object

[code]....

I got this code by recording macros and transferring the code. Everything after the "=" sign gets the error "is not declared. It may be inaccessible..."

eg .LineStyle = xlContinuous The error items are shown in itallics.

I sure would appreciate some code that opened current worksheet, write to the worksheet and do just those formats that I mentioned (cell color, border).

Xml - Reading Dates From OpenXml Excel Files

Jan 11, 2011

I'm trying to read data from the .xlsx files using SharpZipLib to unpack it (in memory) and reading the inner xml files. Everything is fine but recognizing the dates - they're stored in julean format and I need to somehow recognize if a number is a date or only a number. In another topic (unfortunately it died and I need quick answer) I got to know some things from Mark Baker, but it's still not enough...

"Excel stores dates as a float value... the integer part being the number of days since 1/1/1900 (or 1/1/1904 depending on which calendar is being used), the fractional part being the proportion of a day (ie the time part)... made slightly more awkward by the fact that 1900 is considered a leap year.

The only thing that differentiates a data from a number is the number format mask. If you can read the format mask, you can use that to identify the value as a date rather than a number... then calculate the date value/formatting from the base date." "But doesn't the attribute "s" for dates has always the value of "1"? I know it defines style?

Exporting To Excel With Color Formatting

Now, I already export it into excel, no problem, but someone decided that the excel file should be colour formated just as the grid on the web page. You can see on the attachment the web page and the excel file in question. When I export to excel, its all white, obviously. How do I get to do this? To worsen things, I'm not even into VB, I do Java, but somebody asked me to solve this, It wasn't even me who did the export to excel code in the first place.

C# - Exporting HTML To Excel Without Losing Formatting?

I am able to export the page to excel, however I lose all my formatting (can't set column widths, etc). Is there a way to handle this? I'm open to adding any goofy MS Office -specific tags that are required to the html side of it.If this isn't feasible and if anyone has any other ideas, the requirement is that users need a report that:

a) They can manually touch up with some personalization / area-specific data

b) Needs to be hide/show columns based on user's location

c) Needs to run from the web site.

VS 2010 .NET Excel Chart Cell Formatting?

Dec 1, 2011

I have a program that creates a excel spreadsheet and a chart on each tab from extracted data in various .txt files. Before the chart is created, two of the excel columns will end up with data like this: on column 9 and 10. I also use data (time, looks like 09:15) in column 11 that shows the time at the bottom of the chart. There are just too many digits in the output and the readability looks bad so I can also convert.

Input Output
800400047320000
825400047120000

[code]....

The chart will display those values just fine but, normally the conversion in code that I do during the placement of that data (so it reads a bit better) looks like this:

'Convert bit to Kbit
If InRate.Length < 7 Then
InRate = CDbl(InRate) / 1000 & " Kbit"

[code]....

how to make the chart work with just numbers and ignore the MB or Kbit at the end?

Export From DataGridView To Excel Resulting In Incorrectly Formatted Dates

Text -> Excel Conversion (with Extensive Formatting Required After Conversion)?

May 11, 2012

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.

Here is my plan:

Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.

Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing

Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel

Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data,format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)

Completed: (VB.net) Save file.

Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.

Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.

The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?

Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

Formatting Excel - If I Try Using Style.numberformat With The Date And Time Formats, They Don't Change And Are Entered As If Didn't Change The Format?

Mar 11, 2011

I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.

Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11

Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM

For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation

BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

Converting C++ Printf Formatting To / From String Formatting

Sep 30, 2010
