Excel Pending In Memory Only When Formatting Or Alignment Used?
Jan 26, 2012
My code simply runs procedure at SQL Server and copy data into excel. Excel is then saved, closed and released from memory. After that I have added code for Cells alignemnt and Cells formatting and problem raised again and excel is again pending in running processes. 4 rows of sheet alignemnt causes that, and when I comment them, then its ok again. Same when I used formatting by .NumberFormat.

I've added a status bar to the form and have it set to "RightToLeft" True so that it adds my Label to the far right hand side. Now what I wanted to do was add a label that is left justified, but I can't figure this out by looking at the properties, so I'm assuming this has to be done through code somehow?I'm aiming for something along the lines of a browser's status bar layout.

I wrote a small program in VB.NET to export data from DataGrid to Excel and it works perfectly. My manager now wants me to display the data in a presentable format. How should I go about it. I recorded a macro but was unable to apply that in vb.net.

I am an Engineer and have been programming VB6 for 10 years and now writing in VB2010 Professional.I am trying to write technical data to Excel which works fine with this code: In a module I dimension
Public appExcel As Object
Public wbook As Object
Public wsheet As Object
[code]....
I got this code by recording macros and transferring the code. Everything after the "=" sign gets the error "is not declared. It may be inaccessible..."
eg .LineStyle = xlContinuous The error items are shown in itallics.
I sure would appreciate some code that opened current worksheet, write to the worksheet and do just those formats that I mentioned (cell color, border).

I have this page with a gridview that displays data that needs to be formated with different colors according to the values it gets. Now, I already export it into excel, no problem, but someone decided that the excel file should be colour formated just as the grid on the web page. You can see on the attachment the web page and the excel file in question. When I export to excel, its all white, obviously. How do I get to do this? To worsen things, I'm not even into VB, I do Java, but somebody asked me to solve this, It wasn't even me who did the export to excel code in the first place.

I have a asp.net page that generates a report. For better or for worse, the entire thing is generated using nested tables. I am able to export the page to excel, however I lose all my formatting (can't set column widths, etc). Is there a way to handle this? I'm open to adding any goofy MS Office -specific tags that are required to the html side of it.If this isn't feasible and if anyone has any other ideas, the requirement is that users need a report that:
a) They can manually touch up with some personalization / area-specific data
b) Needs to be hide/show columns based on user's location
c) Needs to run from the web site.

I have a program that creates a excel spreadsheet and a chart on each tab from extracted data in various .txt files. Before the chart is created, two of the excel columns will end up with data like this: on column 9 and 10. I also use data (time, looks like 09:15) in column 11 that shows the time at the bottom of the chart. There are just too many digits in the output and the readability looks bad so I can also convert.
Input Output
800400047320000
825400047120000
[code]....
The chart will display those values just fine but, normally the conversion in code that I do during the placement of that data (so it reads a bit better) looks like this:
'Convert bit to Kbit
If InRate.Length < 7 Then
InRate = CDbl(InRate) / 1000 & " Kbit"
[code]....
how to make the chart work with just numbers and ignore the MB or Kbit at the end?

I am using excel to store and retrieve information. I open the excel work book then close it once the action is completed. I thought it was clearing fine till i opened my Task Manager and found a ton of instances in the Task Manager. I can clear them manually but my users are not going to do that and it is cheesy to have them have to do that. I have researched this and some folks were talking about a "Marshal" method. I researched that and don't understand what it does.[code]...

While working on some functions that update my database, I was writing some quick tests just to make sure my functions were executing properly. When it comes time to actually update the database I can pass a transaction to a function and then commit it:
user.Assignment("assignment value for some column in table", connection, transaction)
transaction.Commit()
I am curious if there is a way to write a quick test that can verify that the transaction will actually update certain rows before committing?
(pseudoish-code)
user.Assignment("assignment value for some column in table", connection, transaction)
If Not transaction["SomeColumn"] = "Expected value for SomeColumn"
assert("ColumnName was not going to be updated to the expected value!")
transaction.Rollback()

I'm using LinqToSql to talk to my database. It's working great but I would like to know if there are pending changes. I know how to endedit() and submitchanges() on the underlying context. But is there a property that will tell me if changes have been made? I've looked through the properties and methods of both the bindingsource object and the datacontext but nothing is popping out at me.

I'm using ODBC to export tables from a dataset to an Excel file without auto-formatting Excel or even needing to have Excel installed on the users PC. This works great but I just had a request to autosize the columns and make the header line bold. The only way I know of doing this is to fully automate Excel to control the row/column/cell formatting. Does anyone know a way of doing this without auto-formatting Excel?

I have developed a VB.Net code for retrieving data from excel file .I load this data in one form and update it back in excel after making necessary modifications in data. This complete flow works fine but most of the times I have observed that even if I close the form; the already loaded excel process does not get closed properly. I tried all possible ways to close it but could not be able to resolve the issue.
Find below code which I am using for connecting to excel and let me know if any other approach I may need to follow to resolve this issue. Note: I do not want to kill the excel process as it will kill other instances of the excel

I have a VB.net 2005 app using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll version 11, deployed on a number of XP machines with Office 2003 installed. On one and only one machine I get the following error:Error -2147467261 Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. The line which triggers the error is:
xlSheet.SaveAs(strPathXLS)
xlSheet has been previously defined by
Dim xlSheet As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet
This should save an Excel file in a folder on the desktop. I can save a file from Excel in that folder, and create a new Excel file in it from the right-click option. The app is working correctly on the development machine and at least 8 other XP boxes on site. All Office and dotNet 2 updates have been applied.Office and dotNet have been uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect.

I'm creating a program in VB.net that does the following:At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients.
Here is my plan:
Completed: Outlook VBA to monitor all incoming email for specific message. Once message is received drop attached .txt file in a specific network folder.
Completed: (VB.net) Monitor folder, when text file is added begin processing
Not Complete: (VB.net) Import text file to Excel
Not Complete: (VB.net) Format Excel Text file.(add in a row of data, format column headers with color/size, add some blank columns, add data validation to some of the blank columns that allow drop down selections)
Completed: (VB.net) Save file.
Completed: (VB.net) Send file to list of recipients.
Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this.
The way stated above. Import to excel -> format Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

[code] objExcelAppDataSheet is the excel application's object and strTemplatePath is the path of the excel file. This excel file is like a template that i am using in my application. In this file some cells are merged. After copying to the new sheet the formatting of the sheet does not remain same. Columns sizes are changing. Why this problems occurs? Is this MS office versions issue??
