I've created txt file on vb. I need time function that every 30 minutes create file and filename will be date and time that file was created.
View 4 RepliesActually, I am trying to find out whether the partno is existing in the database table or not and it takes long time in count = checkCommand.ExecuteReader statement
Public Function CheckProductNo(ByVal Partno As String) As Boolean
Dim count As SqlDataReader
Dim valid As Boolean = False
Using connection As New SqlConnection
[code]....
Working in VWD 2010 Express I have an aspx.vb file with the following connection string:
Protected Function getPasswordLength() As Integer
Dim conn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;database=MyDB;Integrated Security=true")
Dim cmd As SqlCommand = conn.CreateCommand()
[code]....
This works when the code is on the web server / which is collocated with the SQLServer.However, when I want to debug, I have to copy to the server. I would like to be able to "debug in place" on my development machine and only copy files to the production machine periodically. Technically the production machine is not in production at the moment, but that's beside the point.Anyway, I followed the following instruction: [URL] I can now see the remote database, functions, etc. on the other machine (from the VWD running on the development machine). However, I thought I should then be able to execute this same code locally on the development machine using ctrl-F5, but I get the following error:
**Server Error in '/' Application.A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)**
I have this on the form load;
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.Visible = False
Me.ShowInTaskbar = False[code].....
Notice: I used "End", to terminate the process.What I want to do is when the last function is called (Delete_AutoReq_PracNo) it terminates the execution of the application.
Reason...I'll schedule this application to ran from MS SQL Server at night. So realistically, doing all the processes I would like it to stop...Is what am doing sufficient to stop the application from running or there is a more robust approach..
I am wondering if there is a difference between using
Public Function Foo() As Double
Return 3.0
End Function

I am looking for formula that is accurate in converting Minutes to Decimal Minutes i.e 30 minutes is 50 Minutes in Decimals so 1.3 hours is 1.50 and not 1.5 i have used Minutes/60 but it is not accurate as some times i have to Multiply the result by 100 and some time 1000 to get correct results based on single digit Try 1/60, 10/60 99/60 or 100/60.What would be the most efficient and correct way to Convert the time into Minutes ?
View 10 RepliesI have several functions similar to this:
Public Shared Function RetrieveRecentContracts(ByVal intUpToMonthsOld As Integer, _
ByVal strDatabaseName As String) As DataSet
Dim db As Database = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(strDatabaseName)
Dim ds As DataSet = Nothing
[code].....
However, when I step through the code, it does not appear to execute the End Using statement after returning the value, versus in a Try, Finally block, I can see it hit Finally and dispose the object.
I have an application that provides a countdown for 60 minutes and I'm currently using the win form timer and it updates some labels and a progressbar. Now I have to change this to be a countdown for 360 minutes. Will the win form timer be sufficient or should I implement a Timers.Timer instead?
View 6 RepliesHow can you do this? I want to have my program run every once in a while but I don't want to make it a service.
View 5 RepliesI have a program and for now I am using timer for schedule a task but does not work as I want. I want for example run a task with a MonthCalendar.
View 3 RepliesI came across this code which should be able to compare my PC time with the time stored in theTime; however, I can't get it to work.
dim theTime as datetime
theTime = CDate(txtTime.Text)
if theTime.hour = now.hour and theTime.minute = now.minute then

TaskScheduler on Windows xp, does anyone know a API used to select a certain task to Run? or do I have to go through that darn COM ITASK interface, I think that might have a method?
View 6 RepliesI have to sync information between a users table in SQL and a user group in active directory. For example, if a user is entered into SQL table A then they need to be entered into group A and if a user is removed from SQL table A, then remove them from group A.The application is written in ASP.NET (VB)
I see two solutions:
1) A scheduled task that runs every night syncing the two (written in VB.NET).
2) Use inpersonation so that Active Directory can be updated by the ASP.NET application. The Web.Config file will have to be encrypted in this solution.
I have read articles online that say it is bad practice to update AD in ASP.NET. This would suggest that option 1 is the better solution. Which is the better solution?
Is there any AT Command to send Scheduled SMS from PC via GSM Modem?
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to create scheduled task with VB.NET. That is I'm trying to launch/trigger my application at specific time.
View 13 RepliesI am trying to create a vb application that will create sscheduled tasks .Created a windows service and set it to start manually for now.Just as a test, when the timer expires I have set it to start 'Notepad' as a process which I can see listed under processes in the Task Manager, but cannot see it as a scheduled task.What I am unsure whether this is the right way to create a scheduled task and if it why can't I see Notepad in scheduled tasks.
View 5 RepliesIneed a VBS script that removes all scheduled tasks which start with a specific string.For example, delete all scheduled tasks which start with "My Application Tasks..."I wanna use this VBS script in my application uninstaller so all tasks created by my application are removed at the uninstall time, however am not familiar with VBS.

View 1 RepliesMy application needs to set up a scheduled task on installation. The task is to run my program on several triggers (related to logon events). I am wondering what is the easiest way to do this? Should I use a batch file?
View 1 RepliesI've read a few posts here on StackOverflow about task scheduling, but I'm not sure that I get it right. I'm coding (in VB.Net) a backup application, that I'd like to add as a scheduled task (in fact, I'd just like to let the user decide to run it every day at, for example, 3 AM)I've read posts suggesting to use a windows service for this, but it sounds a bit to much for something as simple as periodically running a task, isn't it?
View 2 RepliesIm am currently coding an application for auto updating ccleaner. Everything worked well until I enabled UAC.. I am using this project: [URL] to schedule the updating process, but when uac is enabled I get every time a message if I would let ccleaner installer make changes to my computer. The auto updating process must be done silently without bugging the user with prompts of uac.
When i manually check the "run with highest priviliges" box in task scheduler it does run without a prompt. But I can't seem to do this programmatically. Or I havent found it yet.
To create a scheduled class, I call the schtasks command from my code, passing it the necessary arguments.Yet, I can't really figure out how to create a task without the user having to input his password.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible for the installer or the first running of an application to create a scheduled task entry? Barring that, what is the least resource wasteful way to have a program run in the background watching the system time to run at a preset time?
View 6 Replieshow to do this off hand? I saw a few things for Microsoft.Win32 having some classes but I can't find the reference for it in 2010, which makes me think it is depreciated.
Edit: Can't find Microsoft.Win32.TaskScheduler or Microsoft.Win32.Win32_ScheduledJob which are the 2 I see suggested to use.
i got vb.net application when i debug in task menager the EXCEL.EXE is closing correctly after all operations. When i scheduled it the excel.exe is running. What can be a reason of that?Sample of code :
Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Module Main
Public objApp = New Excel.Application

Is there a way to delete an specific scheduled task from Windows XP/W7 ? I am trying to do that via VB.NET. The Idea is create a console app without any external DLL.
View 2 RepliesI've been thinking about this problem for a while now and I'm still not sure what is the best approach.Basically I've got several hundred email addresses stored in a Database, and every week I would like to automatically send these addresses a bulletin of information. I've accomplished this with a Stored Procedure and a Scheduled Job on the DB (Oracle), but I'm sure this could be achieved better with some VB.net solution.I've read about people writing a Windows Service, or creating a Console Application and using Windows scheduler. I'm swaying to wards the Windows Service approach but I'm not sure how to tell the service to send emails at a specific time every week. Any ideas, or is there a better approach?Also, what would be best? Send individual emails to the addresses in the emailing list, or send one email with every address added as a BCC?
View 2 RepliesI am currently attempting to support a ClickOnce application that i did not write. This application is running from a scheduled task. The scheduled task points to a .application file. This had been running happily untill today when it stopped. The only thing that has changed is that the application has been executed manually by a developer by double clicking on the .application file. Since then each time the scheduled task is scheduled to run the application doesn't appear to execute. The task reports no error and the error code (0x0) given indicates it ran and completed ok.
I am not familiar with ClickOnce and am not sure when implication clicking the .application file would have had or why it has stopped running as a scheduled task. It appears to me that everything else has remained the same (i have checked it is running under the correct account etc).
