Mar 24, 2010I hate SQL.I am busy making a program that can search through records in a database. The normal search works fine. When I say normal search it means something like this
Code:AppSearchField = "SELECT * FROM StudentInfo WHERE Class LIKE '%" & AppSearchValue & "%'" As you can see the LIKE statement enabled me to search for the items I wanted. now, there is a slight hiccup. Say for example I wanted to add a search condition like AND OR and NOT - it doesn't seem to work.For example, if I do a search like the above statement I get results for Class 1 and Class 10 - which sometimes I do not want, that is why I decided to add NOT etc.

Jan 31, 2010i am using VB2008 and i need to work out how to search a database. it probably will be very easy but i cant understand it and havent been able to find any tutorials that are for VB 2008, only for other things that wont work, mainly because i dont understand much of what is been written/said/coded.
But the search button (btnsearch) isnt doing anything when the code is tested.

If i add a record, save it, then close the application and run it again and search for that record, it appears. However, when i write some code to my application, nothing to do with the search function, and i run the application the record is not found. Problem occurs when I try to search the master table to bring in the detail table. Searching the master table shows only the master record, but not the related detail records. when I try to preview the data inside the DataSet I can only get the text to come threw, but that isn't the problem...the problem is binding the data to a datasource and displaying the information.I cannot get the database to display the information in FIELD 2
Forms :: Databind The Picture Box To A Database So The Images?
Jun 30, 2009I've looked in a few places but haven't had much luck in finding what I'm after.So I have a picturebox on my windows form and it has an image set to it, I also have a bunch of reference files that reference to a bunch of images.
Me.PictureBox1.Image = My.Resources.imgs.image1
That piece of code works.
Now, I tried to databind the picture box to a database so the images would load on the change of a combo box but that got confusing really fast so what I did was created a database and it holds all the image references such as "My.Resources.imgs.image1" but its stored as type varchar(50).
Connecting to the database and retreiving the strings is no problem, that works all fine.The problem is converting the string to the image reference, it doesn't work. I've tried type casting, I tried using imagelocation rather than image but I want to reference to the resources that is attached to the project.

I am trying to use each account as a command parameter in another sub routine to get more data about each account number. This only returns the data for the last account number in the arraylist. I need to use each account number, call the database, get the additional information and store ALL of the data into a Gridview (databind). Example: If I had 3 account numbers in my arraylist return 3 rows of data to the gridview. I am struggling with how to get ALL of the information for each value (account number) in the Arraylist. Can someone point me in the right direction?? I think this can be done but I am not certain if my approach is correct or not. Perhaps I need to create datatables that contain the additional information for each value passed via the arraylist.

Sep 23, 2009have build some code which goes through the datasource finding records on what a user types, basically if the user types 'P' in the combobox it finds all records from FieldName with 'P' and if you type 'Portugal' it finds all records from the FieldName with 'Portugal, it all narrows down the search list say if there are to entries which match 'Portugal' the combox would only have to items in. The problem i am have is that when i bound the datasource back to the combobox every letter you type stays at Postion 0 of the combobox and doesn't move to the end of the letter as normally the combo works, does any one now how to get arround this problem.
At the moment i call my combobox search code from the keypress event of the combobox.This code works fine with recordsets in msaccess combobox but i cannot get it to work with the datasource of the combobox in vb.net Heres the code from the combobox keypress event:
