Semi-Transparent Child Form (or Other Semi-transparent Layer) Within A Form?

Dec 16, 2011

I'm trying to draw a semi-transparent layer over my entire form when certain events occur, with a prompt in front of this semi-transparent layer (similar to the effect in Windows Vista/7 with UAC enabled)At first I was trying to use a custom semi-transparent panel, but this didn't seem to work at all. As such I'm now trying to use a child form within the form using the opacity property on the form. However, when this semi-transparent form is added to the controls of the main form and displayed, it loses it's transparency.I've got a hacky work around at the moment where the semi-transparent layer isn't actually a component within the main form, and the transparency works then, but obviously this isn't ideal and could potentially cause various issues further down the line.

Create Two Semi Transparent Panel?

Feb 14, 2010

I am trying to create two semi transparent panel. When I click on panel 1, the color is semi-transparent red. Panel 2 will become semi-transparent green. When I click on panel 2, the color is semi-transparent red. Panel 1 will become semi-transparent green.

Using class below:

Public Class TransparentPanel
Inherits Panel
Private mIsActive As Boolean = False
Public WriteOnly Property IsActive() As Boolean

[code].....

When I click on panel 1, it is semi-red, when I click on panel 2, panel 1 become semi-green. When I click back on panel 1, it seems to draw the semi-red on top and make it not semi-red but more red. The more click I do, the transparent is gone. Is there a way to drop the graphics and repaint it with semi-red? OR, is there a way to restore the graphics to its original state in semi-red? OR, is there a way to clear the graphics and repaint it with semi-red?

Draw Semi-transparent Text On A Graphics Object?

Mar 15, 2010

I want to draw a text with 32 bit transparency on a graphics object. When I try, I only get black color in the result.

If I try to draw a line with the same semitransparent color, it works perfectly.

I have this code:

lBitmap As New Bitmap(32, 32, PixelFormat.Format32bppArgb)
lGraphic As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(lBitmap)
lGraphic.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.HighQuality

[Code]...

I was thinking it may be that SolidBrush does not support transparency, but I found a predefined brush named Transparent (Brushes.Transparent) that was a SolidBrush when I looked at it in debug. I tried to use Brushes.Transparent as the brush when drawing the text, and it was successfully not showing at all. That means I get full transparency to work, but not partial transparency.

Correctly Refresh/redraw Semi-transparent Custom Control?

May 26, 2010

I have a semi-transparent custom control in vb2005 - works fine, except I can't get it to update/refresh correctly. If I update the custom parameter _backgroundColor, the control appears to be overpainted - e.g. each attempt to update the colour of the control overpaints the existing colour - until it becomes a solid block of colour. However, forcing a refresh of the form makes the control display the correct colour. Any ideas? I don't want to have to repaint the form just to get this control to render correctly. Code for the custom control is below.

Transparent Form But Controls Visible?

Feb 16, 2012

I am having trouble finding a way to make the form transparent but the controls still visible. The only transparency I have been able to get to work on the form is

Me.Opacity = <value between 0 and 1>

but that affects all the controls on the form Is there a way to make the controls not inherit this property from the form? Is there another way to make the form transparent? I have buttons and a checkbox that I don't want to be affected by the transparency at all, and a picturebox that I do want to be able to control the level of transparency. Currently, I'm using a slider bar, and controlling the opacity of the form, but that makes everything on the form transparent. I'd actually like for the form itself to be completely invisible, and for my slider bar to control the opacity of the picturebox only.

.net - Opaque Form Overlay Without Covering Task Bar?

Aug 10, 2010

Using Visual Studio 2008 and VB.NET ...

I've created a form (OpaqueForm), which is an intermediary form between other forms which I will open with ShowDialog. The idea is that when I want to show a form using .ShowDialog, this OpaqueForm, with an opacity other than 100%, sits in between the main form and the dialog form, effectively "greying out" the underlying main form.

The OpaqueForm has the FormBorderStyle property set to None, and accepts in the constructor a Form object on which it invokes .ShowDialog. The effect works fine, but there is one caveat. The task bar is also covered by the OpaqueForm; I am assuming because it has a FormBorderStyle of None and a WindowState of Maximized.

I don't want the OpaqueForm to cover the Task Bar, because it would be impolite to have my modal form lock out a user from switching between tasks. How could I go about preventing OpaqueForm from covering the Task Bar, too, while still using a FormBorderStyle of None?

Transparent Controls Over Form With Background Image Shows Backcolor Not Image?

Sep 18, 2009

I can't remember exactly if this is possible or not but what I am attempting I would think should theoretically be possible. I know it is possible in WPF but the company I am working for doesn't want to make the transition just yet. Basically what I want is to use a background image on a form for the background and I have a docked control on the right and left. I have set the background on both of these docked controls to transparent however it is showing the back color rather than the background image. I tried, rather than setting the background image property, to override the onpaintbackground and onpaint events and use e.graphics.draw(picture, me.clientrectangle) but it still seems to just pick up the backcolor as the true transparent background so I'm wondering if it's possible to get it to show the background image through the control rather than the backcolor of the form?

Is There Another Attribute That Controls If A Background Can Be Transparent?

Use Graphics.CopyFromScreen To Enable Alpha Transparent Controls?

Jun 27, 2012

I am trying to use (and this may be my problem already) e.Graphics.CopyFromScreen() in the OnPaint() method of my control to prepare a background onto which I can draw the content of the control. The goal is a tool-tip with rounded corners and other specific features to replace the default Windows tool tip.

Ideally the tool tip could be antialiased and blended into the backdrop, however at a pinch I could tolerate an aliased boundary. This may also be necessary as the control will often be covering a control with an OpenGL overlay and the whole blending procedure may end up a nightmare.

I have created a custom user control, a persistent instance of which belonds to my applications's main form, overriding the OnPaint and OnPaintBackground methods. The application of transparency however is challenging. As I understand, the graphics object passed to the paint method starts with a copy of the current VisibleClipBounds, where generally the first move is to clear the control with a solid colour and start drawing the main features. My first thought was to bypass the fill and start drawing on the captured background. For the first redraw this works fine, but subsequent redraws keep the previous content instead of re-capturing the backdrop. I hoped that CopyFromScreen would specifically eliminate the currently drawing control from its capture so as to start from a clean base but this is not the case, it captures the rectangle of the new location including the image of the previous location if it is in the bounds.
