The use case is this: I am trying to write an 'extension' application for hMailServer (hMS), but hMS can only invoke VBscript scripts when an event happened. I can have the VBscript launch an .exe every time the event happened, but the processing involve opening and closing a connection to a back-end database. So, every invocation is very expensive. I had been thinking that I can reduce the expense by having a Service to maintain the connection (i.e., opening it once and re-open it if the connection closed). Plus by implementing the processing as background worker threads will result in a non-blocking processing + less process-starting overhead.
I'm creating a windows service with a timer that will tick every few seconds and then query a database. The timer for the service works fine, but as soon as I add any of the MySql details it stops working. Just adding the few lines below stops it from working

I'm currently starting work on my first windows service and I've encountered what I find to be a strange error. For some reason the compiler is telling me that a whole bunch of typical classes (such as Image, Bitmap, Graphics, etc) do not exist. For example, these simple lines of code, which work perfectly in a normal project, return a bunch of errors:

I am working on a VS .NET 2008 windows service for 2003, however it doesn�t appear to work correctly.I am basically reading a file from a networked computer and trying to display it�s content, the code is as follows:

Now, everytime I run this service it logs the events inside the "GetMachineVol" function, but I never get to the ""Ticked at "" event log from the "main" sub, pretty much as if the service stopped working after trying to assign the value returned from "GetMachineVol" to the string "MachineVolBSFull". I tried using this code on a windows form and everything works fine, and since debugging a service is quite beyond my skills, I really do not know what could be wrong.
I have written a windows service that uses sockets to send receive data, it works fine when the server has been running and all other services have started, but after a reboot it does not work. Now I know its probably dependant on another service and I know how to add dependencies, but how do I work out which services its dependent on?

(VB .NET) I have a reference to another project which is a win form application and has a setup form which takes the user name, password and some other settings information which will be used by a service. It has "Finish" and "Cancel" buttons. I am creating a new instance of this form on Sub New() of the ProjectInstaller Class, so user can input information, click Finish and installation completes. The service is then automatically started. Now, when I click Cancel on the settings form, I am not able to exit out and halt the installation process. Instead it installs the service !! How can I use the Rollback or Uninstall methods to do the task? I was trying this -

On Sub New() method of ProjectInstaller class, I am checking - If true - uninstall, else - install

I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Now as you can see it is sending the textbox1 text and then pressing enter then sending textbox2 text! Theres quite a few problems in that but before i discuss note: This code is in a Timer. Problem #1: It does not send the keys fully correct all the time because its trying to send them all at once! So i want it to send them 1 letter after the other with 200 ms sleep in them! Problem #2: The sleep is not working: The reason i know is because even after it did the first textbox1 text it didnt wait that 2000 ms!

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

View 10 RepliesWe have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. View 1 RepliesI'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
