i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

In order to send out emergency alerts in our organization, I created a windows service that checks a web service (WCF) to see if an emergency alert is pending. If there is a pending alert the windows service then runs a windows form application (exe) to display the alert message. Now my problem......These services are running on a windows 7 machine. When the exe for the alert message runs, it pops up a message stating.

I am trying to create a windows service that sits in the background waiting for programs to be started. When the programs start I want to be able to check a unique bit of information for each program (I believe GUIDs may provide this) to see what the program is. If the program is not allowed, I aim to provide a warning to the user and possibly close the program. The aim of the application is to identify when users are attempting to install additional software on to the computer so simply monitoring for a certain executable wouldn't work as msiexec is called for all MSI's and as I only want to stop blacklisted programs...this wouldn't work.

I'm creating a program to stop a particular windows service. This windows service was also written by me.The service will watch a folder and cut and paste the file to another location. The service was running OK.And I have another (TESTING) console application which will try to stop this service only. (I'm doing testing!)However, the app failed to stop the service.
Here is the code i use to stop the service.
VB.Net
' AutoMover is my windows service name.Dim controller As New ServiceController("AutoMover")controller.Stop()controller.WaitForStatus(ServiceControllerStatus.Stopped)controller.Start()
The debug line stop at WaitForStatus because the service didn't stop. Here is the Stop function from my windows service
VB.Net
Protected Overrides Sub OnStop() GC.Collect()End Sub
After a few seconds (may be 1 minutes or 2), there is an error message box pop up from window and said the following error msg.' Auto Move is my service Display Name.Could not stop the Auto Move service on Local Computer.Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. If I click Stop from Services.msc, it stop successfully. Strange!!

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}
Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

I have made a Windows Service program called InvCheckService.exe. I am passing the working folder using the Services Property for this program. I am putting the parameter "D:Inv" into the "Start Parameters:" textbox. In my program I am getting 1 parameter. Its is D:MyServicesInvCheckService.exe which is where I ran the InstallUtil.exe from.
Here is the code for the OnStart Subroutine:
Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String)
Dim parms() As String = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()

We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

I have the following windows service file:
Imports System.ServiceProcess
Imports System.IO
Public Class fswService
[Code].....
2 problems: first, intellisense error saying: 'fswService' is a type and cannot be used as an expression. second, I can not figure out a way to pass on to the service the path of the folder to watch (which is stored at My.Settings.userPath).

I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods

I am working on a .NET Windows Service where I am trying to store settings that will be used when the service is started and while it is running. I have searched through posts on SO and found that using the Settings in the properties of the project is great for use with console and winforms applications. However, Google and SO are silent when it pertains to storing these settings with a windows service.

Also, anyone know a goood article on creating your own SOAP service and maybe REST service if you provide a good article on it.Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. The first one is rather confusing for us. We have a windows service that cannot connect to our web service, from within an external network. But we also have a GUI application for testing the connection prior to the Service starting that connects and sends us the required data. The GUI is used for entering proxy information that the windows service will also use to connect. We have several installs where the gui app uses the proxy creds to connect and does so o.k. but the windows service cannot connect using the same credentials. We do not get a 407 error most of the time. We are receiving the server failed to respond message.

I have a VB .Net service, which uses System.Threading instead of a timer to basically do what a timer should do. My problem is stopping the service while the thread is in its sleep state. See the code below:
Imports System.Threading
Public Class AService
Private stopping As Boolean[code].....
If say 1 minutes after the service starts, it can not be stopped until its 15 minute interval ticks and the thread wakes. Is there any way to catch the signal that the service is attempting to stop, and interrupt the thread?

I was able to programmatically launch a service on my development server from a workstation using the ServiceController class with no problems.
When I try to programmatically launch the service on my production server from my workstation, I get an access error which means I do not have rights to run the service with my logged in ID on the workstation.
My question is, is there a way to launch the service using different credentials? I do not see anywhere to input these credentials in the ServiceController class.
