Sending Serial Data From Arduino To Visual Studios 2010
Dec 21, 2011
To send serial data from Arduino Mega 2560 to a VB.Net PGM, then the VB.NET pgm will read data then send to via FSUIPC (an Addin DLL) to ms flight simm 2004.OK that said here is the question: how can I write or phrase or construct the proper syntex needed to 1-limit the data sent,or in reading the data-limit the data read?I have enclosed the VB.NET code and the Arduino code. Please take a look. I am very new to both, but I try hard. all the code works but I get strange all most random data in VB. The FSUIPC end works OK, I can send to and receive from Ok.It's the VB pgm that gets the data wrong some of the time. say 8 out of 10 it is OK then button x will also turn on or off another check box then do what was aked. It seems that I am not clearing the receive buffer so I get a last chr sent before.I have tryed readline, readexisting, readbyte but I don't know how to phrase or construct any but the readline. I have tryed to flush the buffer in both codes but, well I am stuck. [code]
I'm trying to make a rs232 serial data logging program, that accepts a 12 bit hex RFID tagID from an RFID module. My end objective is to save this RFID tagID into a database and assigned to a person for a personnel management system.I had to use button3 to add the value of the variable 'msg' into textbox1 because I was getting the following error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'TextBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on". It is a temporary workaround. When I do press button3, I get the incomplete hex number, instead of "4C00A2C82A0C", I get "A2C82A0C", and sometimes I get random digits like 1,A,C etc etc.
Public Sub OpenPort() Try If SerialPort1.IsOpen Then SerialPort1.Close()
when the user clicks on the add button another form launches, which enables the user to add student info such as name, address, course, start date and end date, this information is then written to class when the ok button on that form is clicked, and then displays the data on the initial form in data grid. the user can add multiple entries and they are all displayed on the intial form and a the data grid is populatedwhen any of the rows in the displayed grid is selected, and the update button is clicked then the same form launches as the previous one and but this time its in the update mode and pre populates the form with the inital values.
I am currently having problem receiving data from Arduino via Bluetooth, and display the results on Visual Studio Professional 2010. All I want to do is to receive sensor readings from Arduino which is send to the computer via bluetooth, and to be displayed on Visual Studio..
Private Sub ButtonDisconnect_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonDisconnect.Click SerialPort1.Close()
when I try to install it, after it extracts all of the needed temp files, it throws this error, and stops there..."windows cannot find 'C:users*my username*appdatalocal empSIT19120.tmpsetup.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again."anyone know what the heck I need to do to get this fixed...nothing has changed, not even the file location of the installation files...nothing..also, I just found out, the temp file's name is changed each time I try to run the setup application...
still working on my game, but a college classmate said that I need to use databases instead of text files...so I'm wanting to know, what databases does visual studios 2010 provide for you to use...what code line should I use to create/write to/read from a databasew, and how do/should I create a database table/refer to it??
I would love to provide code, but I'm both using my cell, and don't have access to my computer right now due to it not being accessale due to not having the ability to have it hooked up right now...got new floors and don't have it plugged in yet/set up again...
I have a problem with something.I have a Arduino board I wan't to communicate with by serialport. In "Form1", I'll retrieve values from the Arduino board, and I want it to calculate and display data in TextBoxes. How can I do this?[code...]
i am doing a project in vb 2008 .net.during execution of the code, a different number is generated every second. the numbers are either 0,1,2,3,4, or 5. how do i send this number every second to the serial port. at the serial port i have a microcontroller connected which should accept this number and light up an LED coresponding to the number received.
I'm trying to control a serial port device that both send and receives data. I can receive data quite happily from the serial port but I don't appear to be able to send data to the device. The device works perfectly as I can test it using putty, I open putty select serial and select 1200 baud, the device immediately lights up and can send and receive. However when the port is set up and opened in VB the device doesn't light up so I can't send data to it but can receive data from it. According to the instructions I need to send either ASCII 'X' Hex '$58' or Decimal '88' to make the device ready.
Code (VB Studio 2005) :- Public Sub New(ByVal synchronisingObject As ISynchronizeInvoke) ComPortUsed = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareNJB", "COMUSED", Nothing) PricePerTrack = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareNJB", "PRICETRACK", Nothing) Me.synchronisingObject = synchronisingObject [Code] .....
I am sending data into VB through a serial port on my computer, from a microcontroller. The data enters VB in an ASCII form, but I need it as a number. I can use the Asc command to convert numbers 0-127 however after this it dosent work. I believe this is becaus the ascii character map only goes through 127. So how can I convert the rest of the data (128-256) to a numbers?
Opening and closing the port works fine, and as far as i can tell, the serial.write("blahblah") should be writing to the output buffer, but I am unable to test or verify this by reading it in. the commented "Receive data from serial port" and subsequent DoUpdate() function are where i am having trouble. It doesnt seem to actually be reading in the data if it is in fact writing it correctly.
I have seen alot of references to WPF on the web while surfing Vs tutorials. I am using Visual Studios 2005 and was wondering if there is a way to use the WPF with 2005 version.
I ran into this problem while trying to write a Pan/Tilt/Zoom controller program. I found some very complicated examples, but managed to put the pieces together into this simple test program.I first import System.IO.Portsthen I define a new serial port and give it the required parametersI open the com port when the form loadsI have two working buttons, one to pan left, one to stop panning. The hex commands are pre-configured.The one for Stop is A0 00 00 00 00 00 AF 0FThe one for Pan Left is A0 00 00 04 14 00 AF 1FI declare a byte array to contain the command bytes and put them into the correct position.
Code below: Imports System.IO.Ports Public Class Form1
I have a pretty simple question, I have a form with a text box and was hoping if it would be possible to get my program to run a command and to use value in the textbox in the command? and if possible then to pipe the output to a text file
ie if my text box has ip address 192.168.1.1 and I click on the run button I want to run the following command
I've been browsing and I noticed that there are addons you can install for your visual studios environment. What would some of these be? What are some addons you guys use that would be beneficial to a student? I have heard that certain addons block out default components, which I would like to avoid.
hi allim trying to develope a website in vb.net using visual studios web develpoer 2008.i was wondering do any of ye know of any good tutorials on how to connect to a database. where i can update text boxes etc.
I can't seem to find the shape tool in the toolbox? When I used VB6 there was one, so why isn't there one now? I just want to set up rows of circles so I can change the color from inside instead of using images and saying
How to read in data from an arduino bluetooth microcontroller? I am new to microcontrollers and I have limited VB experience. The arduino is currently outputting some data to the arduino software screen. I have opened the COM port for the arduino in VB but am unsure how to get the data into a VB string.
I got an Arduino hooked up to the PC and would like to read the serial port of it. I read the serial port in Visual Basic with com.Readline, but it won't read everything. It looses around 2-3 lines that were sent over the serial port to the Visual Basic code. They get "lost".
Using visual studio 2010 on a PC running Windows XP SP3 (32bit) I am trying to read the output from a serial device but only get timed out error? If I open hyper terminal I can see the output, so the hardware and connections are good and the command to send data is working as well? When debugging I have no errors, when the program is run (in debugging mode) I get a timed out error from after the do loop (test=2) All I want to do is have my device output printed to TextBoxLockOut.Text? Note "comstring" grabs my com port the serial device is using - on this computer it is com4, it is a public string
Dim inputline As String = "" Dim command As String = ""
I'm fairly acquainted with VB but the underlying .Net and many of the controls and whatnot I'm not all that familiar with. Hence, I have a real hard time trying to come up with ways to solve certain problems. I figure the best way to start is try to get some general guidance and go from there.
I have an external electronic device that gathers data (no need for details here) and has an internal micro-controller that interfaces from the device to a USB port. I need to build a PC based program in VB 2010 that can get the data from the device and plot it on a graph...possibly a fairly customized graph. Let's assume there is already a driver for this device that sets up a COM port (pseudo-serial I guess it's called).
Now what part of the VB toolbox of methods, controls, objects etc (what's the terminology for that again?) should I be looking at to start such an application? I don't want specific code or anything like that but what areas in this "toolbox" should I be looking at to begin?
I have a controller board that is built by us that sends strings to the serial port based on inputs that it receives. The app we are working on seems to be receiving the data fine but it is displaying it in an odd way and I'm sure it is a simple problem I am overlooking. Here is the incoming code so far:
Private Sub SecuritySerialPort_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles SecuritySerialPort.DataReceived ReceivedText(SecuritySerialPort.ReadExisting()) 'Automatically called every time a data
I'm using an Asynchronous Method to send data across the TCP Protocol. For the most part it seems to be working, but recently, I've been getting results that have missing bytes to them. How am I actually able to figure out what's missing on the sender's site and make sure all the data gets to the end? For example: my end client receives 1408 bytes of data when I sent 1532 bytes. I sent an array with a length of 1532 and the client only got 1408.
I've been logging at website automation (automatically logging myself in etc...) and I've ran into an iFrame which stumped me.
<iframe frameborder="0" id="theiframe" src="javascript:""" style="width: 100%; height: 270px;"></iframe> So far I've basic form inputs have only needed something like:
Private Sub receive_data(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles SerialPort1.DataReceived Dim aBuffer(255) As Byte Do While SerialPort1.BytesToRead > 0
[code]....
Basically, what I am trying to do is everytime I receive data from the serial port, I turn that data into an array (aBuffer) and I then call another sub using that info. The problem I'm having is that everytime I receive data, the array only fills up to the first 8 bytes! This isn't a problem when I receive smaller packets of 6 bytes but anything else gets chopped off.
What is really frustrating is that it seems quite fickle. I've read somewhere that this happens because the computer is handling the bytes received faster than they are being put in the buffer?? Not really sure but if I put a couple of breakpoints during debug, sometimes the array fills up correctly... Note the maximum size of any one incoming message would be 255 bytes.
This is an amateur radio project. I have a TNC (modem) that receives a digital stream (AX.25) from my radio. The TNC decodes the AX.25 frames and translates them to KISS frames (the protocol used between the TNC and the PC, see documentation here: [URL] It sends the data as HEX values.
What I'm looking for on the serial stream is the beginning of a data frame marked by 0xC0 0x00 and ending with 0xC0. Should be easy. Using serialport.readbyte() I should get binary data that I can convert to hex and look for the beginning of a data frame and then convert the subsequent data to ascii, as it will be text from a chat session.
Just to try it out and see the raw data coming from the port, I use teraterm or realterm and capture the data and it's a mix of junk (control frames and what not) and valid text. When I display the same data in a text box in VB I get data that look like this:
I'm trying to pass a data packet from the serial data received event. The code can capture the data without any issues.I'm spinning my wheels on getting the data packet out of the thread for further processing.[code]
