I've been working on a project for months now (vb 2008 express). There is one final which I can't solve.I need to send images to a client from a 'server'(listener). The code below works most of the time but sometimes the image is incomplete. I believe this might be something to do with the tcp packet sizes varying, maybe limited by how busy it is out there on the net. I have seen examples of code that splits the image into chunks and sends them out, but I can't get them to work maybe because I'm using a different vb version. The pictures to be sent are small 20k max.
Any working code examples would be wonderful. I have been experimenting and failing with this final hurdle for weeks.
Given the following information Public Enum Request As Byte None = 0 Identity = 1 License = 2 End Enum Protected mType As Communication.Request mType = Communication.Request.Identity Debug.Print (BitConverter.GetBytes(mType).Length.tostring) 2
Why does bitconverter report that mType is a length of 2. I would have thought that passing a Byte into BitConverter.GetBytes would just return the Byte. I mean it's no big deal because it's only sending a very small block of data across a TCP Socket, but I'm just intrigued why it thinks it's 2 bytes.
I'm writing a GUI-based app in VB.net that talks to a LambdaMOO server via telnet, sends commands to display the object hierarchy, then parses the output and creates a visual representation of the object hierarchy. So my question is: is there some kind of "telnet client" class for .NET to simplify the sending and receiving of data, or do I have to write my own using the socket API?
I am trying to communicate with an external device and i am trying to send a byte array to the external device via sockets but i am always getting a response the message size is too small so i am not sure what i have done wrong. Between the data type there should be no alignment present and all numbers are represented in little endian format. The char array is not null terminated as mentioned in the protocol specifications.I have to send data based on a struct that embeds 2 other struct. So here's my vb.net code for the struct used to convert to byte array and the sending part.[code]
I wrote a Socket Client which will send the Socket Server some data and get some response from Server. This process will be running once in every 2 seconds.
Now what I need to know is How we can identify the connection lost between Server and Client?
I need this to be implemented in the Client side. If there is no connection then Client should automatically close the connection. Once the connection with the server is available in the next attempt it should connect automatically.
I've inherited a tested function that processes incoming data from a .NET Serial Port. (Dim RXBuffer as string = serialport1.ReadExisting) I've written a different part of the application that processes a byte array as received from an asynchronous .NET socket.
Is there a way I can convert the byte array into a string as if it arrived from the serial port?
I would prefer to rewrite a very long 'if statement' into byte array functions syntax that look like:
dim b as boolean = IsBitSet(state_buffer(i), j) 'rather than:
dim b as boolean = (Asc(Mid(RXPacket.Pdu, CInt((i - (i Mod 8)) / 8) + 1, 1)) And CInt(2 ^ (i Mod 8))) > 0
I am working on a little project and have had great success, that is until I came upon a slight glitch in programming. Here is the glitch:I have Form1 and Form2. Form1 contains an array, which I need to send to form2 to precess and send on. Is this possible? I have tried sever ideas and none have worked. sending an array from one form to another is possible?
I'm having trouble with passing an array between subroutines
I have an array called "lines" which is loaded from a text file and then edited according to a series of checkboxes within one subroutine. Each line in the array is essentially a line from the text file
I then need this array passed to another routine so that it saves to a new text file once the save button is pressed. (in this case just the top 5 lines)
At the end of the section that creates the array i have placed this
From File Edit Call Savefile(Lines)
The section of code below is from the section once the button is pressed
Save Code Sub Save_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Savebutton.Click
I am new to VB.net and struggling to get out of VB6's way of sending data, I am doing this to send a byte array from my client to server, please advice if this is the right way,The sending portion:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim arrNo(3) As Integer
I'm using javascript to send a array to my code behind so it can be saved. And also to redirecting the page to the next dataset. function ChangeMonth(utcDate){ PageMethods.javaGetArray(colors); alert("saving..."); window.location = "./transport.aspx?date=" + utcDate; } This works perfectly when there's an alert in between, the saving and the redirect. If I delete the alert it just redirects without saving.
Below is my code, but when i send the message thru client socket i receive Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: size
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim serverStream As NetworkStream = clientSocket.GetStream() Dim outStream As Byte() = _ System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("0800822000000000000004000000000000000920092126012345001")

I have to send data based on a struct that embeds 2 other struct. So here's my vb.net code for the struct used to convert to byte array and the sending part.
Public Structure MESSAGETYPE_OIP_Login Dim Header() As COMMANDHEADER Dim UserName() As PSTRING
I am trying to Send an Email with an attachment (using Gmail) but I keep getting errors like "Operation Timed out" or Failure Sending Email". It was working earlier today but I found out that i needed to add Using statement because the email was having a file open that had to be deleted after it was sent but afterwards it doesn't work.
Here's what I have (Portion of it): Private Sub SendMailOneAttachment(ByVal un As String, ByVal pass As String, Optional ByVal smtp As String = "smtp.gmail.com") Using oAttach As Net.Mail.Attachment = New Net.Mail.Attachment((Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.LocalApplicationData) & "\" & My.Computer.Name & "_" & fName & " .zip")) Dim client As SmtpClient = New SmtpClient(smtp) [Code] .....
The ports are correct I believe, no firewall up on my PC...
I am tring to send e-mail used VB 2008. Below is my code. The error message I am getting is "5 Failure sending mail at System.Net.mail.client.send(MailMessage message).I have two questions. 1.) What am I doing wrong? & 2.) Is there a way the get a more description error message.

I have a modified button control with a string array in it. I am having trouble sending the string array to the form with the modified button on it. Anyone know what i can do? The form uses a arrayList to hold the buttons since they are made at runtime.
I have an array of people stored in a custom structure array... how can i copy this array to a temp array so that the temp array has all the same values as the original custom array?
so now my question is how do i connect the WebSocketServer.cs to the index.aspx ?
As a start, all I'm trying to accomplish is just to get the Web Sockets working, and have the connection established, which then will alert("Stock Ticker Connection open ...");
how do I keep a Socket declared forever so i can call it in other methods?
All the tutorials i've read just have a server, client, server sends client message, client disconnects. What if I want to remain connected? I've tried making the sockets global but that didn't work somehow.
Then I ran into problem #1 - I wanted to call the methods in another sub but they were shared so I received the error:"Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method without an explicit instance of a class"o, I took out shared since I didn't know how to fix it, and put in the Following as Global Variables:
Public listener As System.Net.Sockets.Socket Public handler As System.Net.Sockets.Socket Public client As System.Net.Sockets.Socket
i can connect socket well but i want to ask how can i determine that socket has received data i want to create sub or function that handles socket.receive byte the code i have is
Dim byteData(100) As Byte Dim size As Integer = soc.Receive(byteData) 'receiving the data from socket and reading its size For i As Integer = 0 To size Console.Write(Convert.ToChar(byteData(i))) 'Convert.ToChar will convert the byte value into character Next
i want to start this code each time when socket receives something?
I am trying to create the following program Store in a 1d array a set of 5 place names and in a 2d array the distances between the places. Ensure that the order of the places is the same in both arrays. When the names are places are input the distance between them is displayed. If they are not both in the table a suitable message is displayed
Dim town(1 To 5) As String
Dim Dist(1 To 5, 1 To 5) As Integer
Dim First As Integer
[CODE]......................
I think the best way forward is pass a parameter to the function findnumber.
i'm creating an Asynchronous socket programming in vb.net. i've utilised the code from Asynchronous client and server code frtom the following links:m a new user so could post only one link fully)When I try to connect the for more than one client the second client always waits until the first clientcompletes the call. i want the clients to accept calls at the same time
I have the following class in a Windows Service that is experiencing some vary strange shutdown behaviors. The server is shutting down from time-to-time with only this message in the event logs and no messages in the trace logs, "The Broadcaster service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s)."
In my small P2P Chat application I am listening on a port for messages and if some message arrives and pending, I am accepting it to a TcpClient and reading the data from the stream, writing back a "Received" response and closing it. This is in a loop with a sleep interval of 500 secs and runs in a separate thread. Is it a good practice to close the socket each time I receive and process a message or should I keep it alive till the chat box is closed on other side?
I am asking this because, when I do a "NETSTAT" on command line while chatting with someone, there is one entry per message that arrives locally. and many ports get to TIME_WAIT status, even if it is understood that they will be removed after 2 mins by the system.
Using the Socket raw, with XP I can read without problems both the incoming packets and the outgoing packets. With Vista (I have tried also others Sniffers) is impossible to see the outgoing packets...WHY? what I have to do to see alse the outgoing packets? In reality I have not to read packet data or packet lenght... I need only to count the number of incoming packets and outgoing packets... but with Vista this job seems impossible... or not?
