I've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

I have two lists of strings. One is a list of all students in a class and the other is a list of students in the class that completed an assignment. The two lists are part:whole. So we have two loops for copying elements and displaying them in a list box for only the students who did submit.

What I need is the remaining portion of the "usersinclass" list. (i.e. The students who did not submit). I tried an Else statement BUT with nested loops, every element is guaranteed not to match at least once, so I was getting elements that shouldn't be there. So, is there anyway to run the given lists against each other again to pull out the remaining students? (preferably with no repeats).

The result:Application runs, no errors or exceptions.Displayed is the listbox and the Start button.I press the start button and a msgbox says "Not Invoked" as expected and upon clicking OK to that msgbox "Start Button Pressed" is added to the Output listbox control.Immediately following that the msgbox pops up again and says "Not Invoked". I was expecting "Invoked" as a separate thread is trying to use the Output listbox control.Of course this results in the Output.Items.Add being attempted which results in no visible result as the thread is not allowed to directly update the UI control.
What I need to do is pull information from reports which will then be parsed and sent on to another program. I have everything working except the first and most important step. I am not able to pull the information from the initial reports. They are displayed as html files in a very limited web browser. The window handle of the browser is "MSGWND" and the child handle is Internet "Explorer_Server". I can make this work by pulling the information out of the notepad or by loading the html file myself but I can not seem to get any information out of the "Internet Explorer_Server". Ideally I would like to just pull the url that the browser has opened but I don't know where to look for that as those are the only handles in the whole window.

View 11 RepliesI have a program that has a large set of classes in it. A certain incident (I won't call it an event, yet, as that has a specific meaning that will cause trouble later) needs to a relatively small subset of these classes a question. The subset of classes will need to respond to the question, but for it to be able to do so, the classes may first need to ask a similar question of the same subset, which may prompt yet a further question, though this recursion will never go more than three or four levels down. Since only a small subset of these classes will participate in the questions, while the majority will never participate, and since all of these classes are virtually identical, and I can know at design time whether any given class is part of the subset or not, an event is appropriate. The main class can raise an event, and those classes in the subset can handle the event, while those classes that are not in the subset won't handle the event. Furthermore, any of these classes can raise the event again with different parameters, as needed. Thus far, an event appears to be ideal.
The problem is this: As a result of the event, each class will need to add one or more strings to one of two lists. Event handlers can't return anything, so I can't be using the return values from functions to populate these lists.
Two options appear possible:
1) Include the two lists in the event arguments.
2) Have the two lists be accessible to all classes, and don't pass anything around.
The second part of the problem is that the event is effectively a question being asked of each class, and no action can be taken until each class has responded. If I simply raise an event and let each class respond, can I be certain that all classes that should respond have? An alternative solution would be to have each class expose a method, and call these methods for each class in turn. By doing this, I could get return values, but I would have to call the methods for ALL the classes, not just the subset that actually cares (the classes are all different types, but they all implement a common interface, and are added to a List (of ) that interface, so I can iterate through them all without much difficulty). So, the event seems more efficient, but adding a function to the common interface for the classes is the approach most certain of being a solution.
Good evening folks, I'm building a program that is threaded. While I can get the thread to work no problem, I can not seem to add pages to my tabcontrol from the class I'm using. The NotifyIcon control is in my frmMain. However, when I run my program I get mulitple instances of the Notify Icon being displayed. I even get two frmMains getting launched if I try clicking the other tray icon that has been made. I'm guessing this has to do with the New instance.If that's the problem, is there a way I can move the notifyicon control to some completely separate class?

I'm writing a program and rather than having all the print properties in the main form I'd like to have them setup in a seperate class. I've done printing before by setting all the properties in the form where all the controls are located with no problems but this has me stumped. Reason for doing this is just to try and organize the program a little better and there are several areas of the program that will have different data and format to print so this will cut down on having potentially hunderds if not a thousand lines in that one area. I can't imaging that this wouldn't be possible.

I'm working a business layer (separate assembly) that will contain various business entities used in multiple client applications. One of the client applications is a WCF app that will need to serialize these entities. In order to properly serialize the entities, metadata for data contracts or for XML serialization must be added, but the serialization requirements may vary across applications.
Clearly I need the metadata separated from the class definition. So how do I add metadata to my entities for each separate application?

Looks good, but I am having a problem calling it from the main project. Here is what I have tried using...

Recently in the b2 Team version of VS2010 there are some strange errors thrown in the immediate window and then I'm tossed out of debug mode and back into the IDE. This code has been operating for some time in this project without this behavior. A team member has just reproduced the behavior in his development machine also.The error that starts the shutdown of the debug instance is this: Control accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.

I've got a simple tool written in VB in VS 2010 that has a series of command buttons which run Windows command files and the output is sent to a Rich textbox object on the main form (the comand files take awhile to run so I wanted the output to show up in the RTB as it was produced to show progress). I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.
