I have a windows service written in .NET 2.0 that will run every 5 minutes and executes bunch oracle SQL/PLSQL scripts based on time/validation, it throws the above said error some times against some SQLs, the same SQLs run fine at later point without any error, I have no idea what is going on with the app. I am not sure if this has any thing to do with oracle connection pool as I am properly closing the connections after every SQL execution.

I can't seem to get it to recognize System.Data.OracleClient. I downloaded and installed the 11gR2, added a reference to Oracle.DataAccess. Looks like there is a 4.112.1.2 and a 2.112.1.2 versions. I'm tried adding both to the project, but neither are giving me access to that assembly. i.e.

View 1 RepliesTrying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks.

The problem is since I am using a like statement, I need to be able to have % on either side of the search word, and I can't seem to do that with '%:searchterm%', it just gives an error of ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number.Can I parameterize but still have my flexible like statement be a part of it?
I have a web site that I developed on Vista using Vb.net9. It makes a connection to Oracle. for the connection I use System.Data.OracleClient. It works fine on my machine, and our test server, but it does not work on the production server. We installed the Oracle Client 11 on the server. We've tried, making a console app that opens the connection, connection runs fine, opens, displays a message and all is well there.Then we make a simple web form, put it in the directory of the program, just a button, opens the connection, try..catch, grabs error, same error.The console app was running under an Administrator, web site running under iwam. Is it possible that iwam has a different path?

i was under the impression that using the System.Data.OracleClient namespace will allow me to deploy my application without having the client machine install any OracleClient software besides the .Net Framework 2.0 which if i'm not mistaken, contains the System.Data.OracleClient.dll.
but after creating a WinForm application and then publishing it thru ClickOnce , i found myself getting this error when running the application on the client machine. is this a normal behavior or did i do something wrong in the process?

I have developed a windows application which connects to Oracle Database and upload and retrieve data (using System.Data.OracleClient). It is working fine in my developement system. When I build a setup and deploy in another system, it is giving error that Oracle Client is missing.
Do I have to install Oracle Client in the client system to run my application?
(When I visit Oracle site for Oracle Client, it is asking me to download a 200 MB file)
Is there any other way to do this with out installing Oracle Client in the client system?

I'm having a real problem with serializing data. I understand that its designed to basically copy the structure and data of a structure. In my case, I have the state of a DVD that i would like to save (persist) to disk. I get an error: There is an error in XML document (20, 3).Now I have found out that this is because I have 2 root elements and 2 xml declerations. When I save the xml for the button and te xml for the label in 2 different files, I have no problem. However I have no idea how to go about saving the xml for both of them in the same file and deserializing it back.

View 6 RepliesI am using VS 2008, Office 2007, and Win7 Home Premium on my system.I have a simple application which should be a breeze to build. All I am attempting to do is pull data from an Access database with four small tables into a data grid on a windows project. Should be simple, set up the data connection, choose a datagrid from the table in the data source view, drag it onto the page and done, right?I can't get it to work. It will all work fine until I attempt to run or debug the project. The data will not show up. The data grid does, but I get this error: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll
As I said, the project seems to build fine, but it will not pull the data. After the initial build I get the message that Windows will show this page in Compatibility View. Is it something with Win7 Home Premium, or a setting somewhere?

I have just finished my application and am stuck as to how I'm going to store my data. As it stands I have multiple objects that I created but each of them take multiple ArrayLists as properties. I'm aware that this will give problems if I try to serialize my data?

Now, I updated the classes used by the Lists to implement INotifyPropertyChanged so I also changed the List(of T)s to ObservableCollection(of T)s.After which, the XML serializer stopped working :'( A colleague told me that ObservableCollections, unlike generic Lists, are not serializable.If so then how can I make them Serializable?

View 4 RepliesI'm not positive I'm going about this the right way. I've got a suite of applications that have varying types of output (custom defined types).For example, I might have a type called Widget:

Public name as String
End Class
Throughout the course of operation, when a user experiences a certain condition, the application will take that output instance of widget that user received, serialize it, and log it to the database noting the name of the type.
Now, I have other applications that do something similar, but instead of dealing with Widget, it could be some totally random other type with different attributes, but again I serialize the instance, log it to the db, and note the name of the type. I have maybe a half dozen different types and don't anticipate too many additional ones in the future.
After all this is said and done, I have an admin interface that looks through these logs, and has the ability for the user to view the contents of this data thats been logged. The Admin app has a reference to all the types involved, and with some basic switch case logic hinged upon the name of the type, will cast it into their original types, and pass it on to some handlers that have basic display logic to spit the data back out in a readable format (one display handler for each type)NOW... all this is well and good...Until one day, my model changed. The Widget class now has deprecated the name attribute and added on a bunch of other attributes. I will of course get type mismatches in the admin side when I try to reconstitute this data.
I was wondering if there was some way, at runtime, i could perhaps reflect through my code and get a snapshot of the type definition at that precise moment, serialize it, and store it along with the data so that I could somehow use this to reconstitute it in the future?
