Jan 24, 2011What's the best way to dynamically remove method calls at runtime? Essentially what I'd like to do is pass a parameter to my application. Let's call the parameter level. Depending on the value of level, I'd like to essentially remove all the calls that have higher levels. I have the following but was wondering if there were a simpler/cleaner way to remove the calls:
Ideally I'd really like to write something like:
Log5("message")
And just have Log5 work or not call if it doesn't exist. My goal is to actually remove the call. The overhead for calling level 5 logs that test and return is fairly high and I rarely use it.

Switching Byref To Byval On Method Calls .NET?
Mar 1, 2010Switching Byref to Byval on method calls I have many warnings raised due to: "Implicit conversion from xxxx to yyyy in copying the value of 'ByRef' parameter zzzz back to the matching argument."
My feeling is that it would be safe to change the function parameters from byref to byval as nothing special is being done with the reference type pointers inside these methods the reference types are simply being used and I think the behaviour would be exactly the same if running with a copy a pointer rather than the original.
Another consideration is that I have two classes which inherit from a base class. The same situation is occuring in that the byref params are causing implicit casting from the base class to the narrower concrete class. Again I can't see any problems with this code running byval either.Does anyone have any tips regarding use of parameters in functions when dealing with reference types?
Some of the other things that are currently being passed around byref in my project are database connection objects i.e. OracleConnection and SqlConnection. Is there any good reason for passing these around byref?

Im not sure.. do I have to INVOKE for EVERY component of a FORM I want to modify? or is there a way to group all the invokes into a single big one?or a groupbox could work?

I created Windows Shell Context Menu entries in the registry for MP3 etc files, so if I right-click such a file in Windows Explorer it gives the option: Play in MyProg. If multiple files are selected in Windows Explorer and sent to be played in MyProg, the first one must be sent to the music player (part of same prog) and the others must be added to the playlist (listview). For this reason I must know whether a commandline call is just a single one or whether other context menu calls will follow.

As you may have surmised I am having trouble with the LoadCompleted event.I have searched and found some information on it, but the "flow" of the code only lends itself to waiting for one page to load.url...All of the code execution is run in the DocumentLoaded event which works fine when you just need to navigate to one page and execute code. But I need to perform a series of these cycles for my application. How can I reliably wait for the document to fully load while still keeping the code execution in the same Sub AND not locking the UI thread? [code]That's it. Sep 10, 2010I recently wrote a section of code wherein upon finishing, I received a warning from the compiler telling me that one of my variables is being used before it is assigned a value. In practice, the method call on this object will never be made without the object being instantiated beforehand. Here is the snippet of code

I assume I'm receiving this warning because the first line in the Try section may be the line to throw the error, and the Object will never be instantiated. FileName though, is a variable being passed to this method which has already been checked for errors, so it is guaranteed to be correct. The error I'm expecting to perhaps be thrown comes during the deserialization.
So my question: When warnings are given on objects that the compiler thinks may not have been instantiated, does this overrule the user knowing that a problem will never arise on that line? Is it sometimes necessary to add code simply to appease the compiler?

I can create a method SetValues( ... parameters ... ) and call it from the two constructors but does someone knwos a workaround to avoid this error?, why the compiler do not validate the possibility to call the base constructor before the overloaded constructor?how to justify logically the fact that it's not possible to call the base class constructor and another class level constructor from one class level constructor at the same time?
DataSet Has Errors In Multiple Cells After Fill Method?
Mar 2, 2012I am experiencing something very bizarre when I execute the Fill method of my adapter. I've been running this query for months and all of the sudden this is happening after I installed SP1 for Visual Studio 2008. For some reason several DataRows in 2 of the 3 tables within my DataSet have errors in them when I view them in debug mode using the DataSet Visualizer. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about
It does this to random rows. If I execute the Fill method the first time, rows (5-10) will have these errors. If I execute the Fill method again rows 12-23 are affected and so on. I have no idea what is happening here.
This is effected my DataGridViews, because they don't display any rows, because of the erros. I should also note that when I run the lines of code below in the Immediate Window it says the DataSet doesn't have errors.

GotFocus Method Running Multiple Times On Controls

I am looking for it to just run once since the method is filling the text box control with data. Is there a common reason this happens? Its not looping cause it is happening on everyone of my controls that use the GotFocus method.

Allow Calls From Unmanaged Code?
May 5, 2009I have an application which has been succesfully installed on a number of different client machines.
The problem I now have is that I have been asked to allow third party applications, possibly written in a non .net language set to plug into my application and execute some of the code. Just a handfull of properties and half a dozen methods.
Now I can wrap up these properties/methods, make them public and have them in their own project which will be part of my solution but I have no idea where to go from here.
How do I make this portion of my application accessible to a third party application written in unmanaged code ?
