Pass Multiple Arguments To A Delegate Method From A List(Of T).ForEach Call?
Sep 6, 2011
Is it possible to pass multiple arguments to a delegate method from a list(Of T).ForEach call? So, I'd like to pass a listbox object to the delegate routine below:
Sub test()
Dim names As New List(Of String)
names.Add("Bruce")
names.Add("Alfred")
Here's the code I have but I'm getting syntax issues:
CODE:
I'm just looking to call ReadAndPopulate method for each item in aList. I know I can do it the traditional "For each a in aList...Next" way but wanted to learn how to do it with delegates.
Im trying to call a procedure to run into a thread..But this procedure requires two arguments. How can I pass these arguments in to the function when the thread call:
Dim myThread As New Threading.Thread(New Threading.ThreadStart(AddressOf PopulateTermList myThread.Start()
addressof PopulateTermList should only be called without parenthesis(the VB tells me this)
I have a custom list that inherits Generic.List and it has a method for deselecting all of the members named DeselectAll It has looked like this for a few weeks and has worked fine.
Public Sub DeselectAll() MyBase.ForEach(Function(p As Publipostable) p.ModeEnvoiChoisi = Nothing) End Sub
Today, it stopped working ?!? I reverted to an earlier version using delegates and that works fine...
Public Sub DeselectAll() MyBase.ForEach(AddressOf DeselectModeEnvoi) End Sub
[code]....
Edit: Stopped Working meaning it no longer sets the property p.ModeEnvoiChoisi to Nothing on each item in the list. The DeselectAll method gets called, but all the items retain their previous values...
However it always returns 0. I've checked and the GetPartCost function executes and returns a non-zero number but the list item cost properties are never updated. The property is just a simple property,
Public Property Cost() As Double Get Return _Cost[code]....
If I set a breakpoint in the Set of the property, it never gets hit.
I have a method written in VB.NET. It looks like this:
Shared Sub SomeMethod(ByVal Id As Guid, Optional ByVal str1 As String = "foo", Optional ByVal str2 As String = "")
I want to call this method from C# 3.0 and I want it to use its default arguments. I tried passing System.Reflection.Missing.Value, but I cannot cast it as String. Is there any way to do that?
How to call exe with multiple arguments from VB.Net Source. Now, I can call exe file with mmyProcess.StartInfo.FileName ="....exe" and pass parameters with myProcess.StartInfo.Arguments but i can't pass multiple parameters with it.
I'm trying to search a generic list of 'User' business objects which has a property called 'Username': If (From u In colUsers Select u.Username Where Username.Equals(strUsername)).Count > 0 ThenI keep getting:Delegate to an instance method cannot have null 'this'.
I have a method called ADD in a class that connects to a database. The database class name is XDB. I also have an object named XXX in it's own separate class with properties. One of the instructions for the Button named ADD click event is:
'Call Add method passing in the XXX object
So this is how I coded:
'declare a variable X as an object instance of XXX Dim X As New XXX[code].....
I know it's wrong since it doesn't add the XXX and the form doesn't close but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I have the following generic method : Namespace Helpers
[Code]...
I would like to use type interference so that when i call ToGenericType method, I would not need to pass the type(t) This is how i call ToGenericType now.......
However, I get an error in the call to BeginInvoke (the UpdateApplicationDataUI portion of the delegate is stating "Expression does not produce a value").
Me.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(Function() New Action(AddressOf UpdateApplicationDataUI))
Code: Public Class SendPings Shared Sub New() AddHandler Post.Saved, AddressOf Post_Saved[code].....
I get a error" Method 'Private Shared Sub Ping(item As BlogEngine.Core.IPublishable, itemUrl As System.Uri)' does not have a signature compatible with delegate 'Delegate Sub WaitCallback(state As Object)'.
from the documentation we have this: Multicast Delegate: Represents a multicast delegate; that is, a delegate that can have more than one element in its invocation list.
so am i right to say that Multicast delegate is no different from a normal delegate other than the fact that it has arguments. so System.Action is a 'normal' delegate whereas System.Action(T)(Byval obj as T) is a multicast delegate?
I'm a c# developer and have not enought experience in VB.NET.the scenario:
Namespace Presenters Public Class BaseFooPresenter assuming the public default parameterless constructor[code]....
I can create a method SetValues( ... parameters ... ) and call it from the two constructors but does someone knwos a workaround to avoid this error?, why the compiler do not validate the possibility to call the base constructor before the overloaded constructor?how to justify logically the fact that it's not possible to call the base class constructor and another class level constructor from one class level constructor at the same time?
This is a theoretical question, I've already got a solution to my problem that took me down a different path, but I think the question is still potentially interesting. Can I pass object properties as delegates in the same way I can with methods? For instance:
Let's say I've got a data reader loaded up with data, and each field's value needs to be passed into properties of differing types having been checked for DBNull. If attempting to get a single field, I might write something like:
I have searched high and low for documentation on how to use this feature. While the loop I could write would be simple and take no time, I really would like to learn how to use this. Basically I have a class, say, Widget, with a Save() sub that returns nothing. So:
Dim w as New Widget() w.Save()
basically saves the widget. Now let's say I have a generic collection List(Of Widget) name widgetList(Of Widget) and I want to run a Save() on each item in that list. It says I can do a
widgetList.ForEach([enter Action(Of T) here])
....but how in the F does this work??? There is no documentation anywhere on the intrablags.
I have a function Process(data, f) where data is a normal parameter and f is a function needed to process the data (passed as a delegate to Process)
The signature of f is int f(a,b,c), with a, b, c supplied by Process when it calls the delegate.
Up until here, standard delegate usage.
Now, I have a special but common case where I would like to call Process with a constant f function. So I would like to write SimpleProcess(data, k) so that the caller does not need to create a delegate in this case, just pass the constant k (the only information needed).
So I need to dynamically create a constant function, g(a,b,c) which takes 3 parameters (which are ignored) and always returns k. This has to be done within the SimpleProcess function, so that I can then simply call Process(data, g) from within that function, without the need to rewrite the whole Process function for this special case.
im trying to make a little app that you can run from a web address bar... some games we play has that function in the game but some dont... so i found some source code online on how to insert data into registry and i can launch the game from a web browser address bar... BUT i need to pass another argument path to game\game.exe -mod:"modname here" -server:"server ip here":"server port here" -noautoplay now i can get it to load with path to game\game.exe -server:%Host%:%Port% -noautoplay some code from the app....
Dim u As New Uri(args(0)) Dim arguments As String = reg.GetValue("HeatLinkArguments").ToString() arguments = arguments.Replace("%Authority%", u.Authority)
[code]....
but how can i add a string in of my own??? i want to have something like this....
path to game\game.exe -mod:%ModName% -server:%Host%:%Port% -noautoplay arguments = arguments.Replace("%ModName%", "name of mod")
how would i insert "name of mod" in to the replace?
I have an application which sits on general users machines. What I want to be able to do is for the users to create a new directory through the application that will create a directory on a server that they do not have access to for secutiry reasons. Then the users can create a file within the new folder through the application, again which they do not have access to. The whole idea is to have an application that manages files that are able to be accessed by many users through the application / backend database, and therefore we do not want the user to be able to manipluate the folder / files by mapping to the location. Then if the user wants to work on the file he requests it through the application which then copies it locally to their machine.
The way that I can see this working is by having a service running on the server that has access to create folders and files in this location. The user can then request the creation of a folder / file through the application which then instructs the service to create the folder / file.
Is there anyway that I can pass arguments directly into the service on the server, or would I have to create an entry in a database on the server that the service is monitoring and then performs the request?2a. If I do have to have the service monitoring the database if I make the service check this every second will this slow the server down and will the server guys at a company be OK with this running this quick?I also need to be able to let the user know through my application that the folder / file has been created successfully, therefore what is the best way to do this? Again get the service to write to the database that the request has been completed? If this is the case then my app will have to poll the database continually to check the database that the request has been completed, this could slow the application down?
i want to call one (executable) file form another Application's (Main) mnu_Click event.how to call exe in Main Application.what code should be written in Config.exe?
I'm trying to code a class of RandomNumber. One of the class methods needs to populate a "List (Of RandomNumber)" ... which was passed as a parameter to the method ... with 10 random numbers between 1 and 50. DEAD SIMPLE :)
So, I'm having troubles implementing a separate thread. This is because I have a simple class, and in it I start a new thread. So, as it is not any form, I haven't found any way to make it call the function in the UI Thread.
So, I cannot use the Invoke method. Is there any way to call a function from another thread?
I have a listView control on one of my form. It contains no of records. Now my question is how to pass a particular record or its reference to another form i.e. I have designed a form which display's the details of a particular record (Searching facility is there in that form.). When user double clicks on the particular recode in the listView, I want to load that record into the 'search form' (i.e. the form which displays the full details of a particular record).
