Open File Dialog Not Showing Network Locations
Jun 3, 2009I am doing setup project in VS 2008. I used custom action to select file from local drives. On the button click of custom action form, I am launching Open file dialog as ofdGetNetPath.ShowDialog When I run the setup on Vista, and click the button to open the openFileDialog, it hanged, form becomes non responsive and I have to cancel the setup.
on debugging I got following error "Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your main function has STAThreadAttribute marked in it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process."
so I used the following code:

One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. Nov 18, 2011I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

.net - Using A FileStream On A Network When The Network Drops?
Mar 26, 2012I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file.The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more.The code to get the lock stream is as follows:

In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).

Jun 22, 2011I have a problem I want to make a server and client where the server is password protected and will make the client display files/folders in a designated folder which will be in the server's current directory and the client will ask what IP and password to connect to and if the password is correct is allows the client to access the files/folders in that folder in C.D. of the server and the client can download any file within the folder by clicking a button, yet don't even know where to start.

Forms Not Showing Up
Jan 2, 2010I have built an application where there is a MDI parent form and other forms which i have not declared as Child forms but have set these forms not to show in Taskbar. While the application is running, if i have any of these forms open and i switch over to any other application other than this and when i come back to it, all these forms hide. I cannot reopen it or see it anymore.. Why is this happening?? how can i sustain these forms as it is even when i leave the application.LuxCoder

well that's normal. but the weird thing is.
sometimes when i check back in a days after that. it still has no replies. so i didn't think much until suddenly a few minutes later i had more than 3 replies. so happy i was.
i checked it and the replies were maybe a few hours after i posted my thread. and some were a few hours ago! i don't know if something is wrong with me or the computer.

Jan 26, 2012I have been dynamically adding user controls to my panel. This user control has a height of 105. If I have my FlowLayoutPanelwidth to only show 1 "column" of controls, it will only display 296 of them. The rest of the controls are grayed out at the bottom of the flowlayoutpanel. If I widen the flp to allow 2 "columns" of controls, I can see 592 of them, with the remainder grayed out at the bottom. I have gone in and resized the user control to make it shorter in height, which works in some respects (i.e. it works when I have two columns, but not just 1), and can go forward with this work-around.
So, I guess my question is, why does the FlowLayoutPanel behave in this fashion? It seems (based on what I saw) that there is a limit to how much data the FLP will show at one time.

However this is not the case. The powerpoints are showing in the normal powerpoint form where the users can edit the texts in the presentation even though the powerpoint presentation are saved as viewshow. Animate The Showing Of A Form?
Apr 19, 2011In a Winform application, I'd like to animate the showing of a form a bit like when an email comes in and the notification window raises slowly from the bottom of the task bar.
I've got a few ideas involving timers and resize but they all seem complicated and/or clumsy so I wonder if anybody could suggest a simple way to do this or some magic function I could use to do it automatically.
