Simply Connecting To Gmail Account Programmatically?
Jan 23, 2010
I'm trying to make a small program (in either C or Visual Basic) to simply connect to a gmail email account. Then a simple if statement which will be if new mail received, label.text = "new mail" etc.

how to download emails from a GMail account in a program I am creating for a clinic. I can send emails quite easily over SMTP, but can not find a way to recieve them (over POP3 or IMAP using SSL). I need to get the message body and the sender from each email in the inbox. It also needs to be native and can not use pay-for-use COM's and such. I am using Visual Basic Express 2010. Is there possibly a simple mail client program that is open source in VB.NET that I can tear apart?

I'm trying to connect up Outlook Express to gmail. Ihave inspiron 9100 with the XP sp2 system. I don't have access to anything else. I think the problem is around gmails inbox parameters but I'm unsure. All I'm sure of is that I am unable to read mail. I have full privileges under this copy of XP.

I'm trying to use two different methods of connecting to a database to edit data, the declaration below is working:
Dim rsConn As ADODB.Connection
rsConn.Open("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" _
& Application.StartupPath & "VFMS_DB.mdb;" _
& "Jet OLEDB:System Database=Security.mdw", "Ads", "1234")
but now I want to do the same thing with the declaration below but I keep getting the message "Not a valid account name or password.
Dim conn As OleDbConnection
conn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" _
& Application.StartupPath & "VFMS_DB.mdb;" _
& "Jet OLEDB:System Database=Security.mdw;Database Account=Ads;Database Password=1234;")
I pretty sure it's because of this ;Database Account=Ads;Database Password=1234; not being correct. I tried ;User ID=Ads;Database Password=1234; and also to make it look like the first statement but neither worked.

We have a windows service running under a network account that calls and runs an ActiveX exe. The exe is running under the local system account, not the network account of the service.

Ok this is what I'm stuck on:I have 2 ListBoxes and 2 Lists, let's call them ListBox1, ListBox2, List1 and List2.List1 needs to be associated with ListBox 1, and List2 with ListBox2 I loop through a bunch of accounts, add them to LixBox1 at run-time.During that loop I add each account number to List1 so now the account number is associated with the ListBox index number which is right.Now when I double click one of the accounts in ListBox1 it is added to ListBox2 (but it still remains in ListBox1), and the same index of List1 added to List 2, now the account in ListBox2 is associated with the account number at the same index in List2 you see where I'm going with this?The issue wtarts here.When I double click an account (let's say the account at the first index) in ListBox2 it should be removed from the list, so now I remove the index from List2 since it's no longer needed, but now you know what's happened right? ListBox2's List indexes have all decremented by 1 because I just removed an item from the beginning of the list, but List2's indexes have stayed the same (at least that's how it appeared when I tested it).
So basically whats the best method for keeping things in reference? I was told about list boxes in another thread of mine, but is it really the best way to go about this, I can't seem to keep everything linked together reliably.

Short and simple question. In Winforms you can bind a dataview to a combobox or some other control by simply:
combobox.DataSource = dataview
combobox.DisplayMember = "Something"
In WPF I've generally done databinding using an ObservableCollection and edits to the xaml. Is there a way to quickly do it, like the above? Edit: This seems to be the simplest/quickest thing I can come up with, anything inherently wrong with it?

I made a program which uses sample.dll. The program communicates with this .dll and does various tasks. Now, lets say I developed a new dll (an update, pretty much). Can I just give my users a new copy of the .dll or do I have to re-reference it in my project and then compile my programs all over and then give them a new copy of the entire program?

MSDN: Int32 values are represented in 31 bits, with the thirty-second bit used as a sign bit. Positive values are represented by using sign-and-magnitude representation. Negative values are in two's complement representation. Isn't it true that the representation of positive values using sign-and-magnitude system is identical to the representation of positive values using two's complement system? So shouldn't it have been rewritten as: "Int32 values (regardless of positive or negative) are represented in two's complement representation",

I would like to calculate a new date simply by using the build-in dateadd function, but take into account that only weekdays should be counted (or 'business days' so to speak).I have come up with this simple algorithm, which does not bother about holidays and such. I have tested this with some simple dates, but would like some input if this can be done in better ways.This sample assumes a week with 5 business days, monday-friday, where first day of the week is monday. Dateformatting used here is d-m-yyyy, the sample calculates with a startdate of october 1, 2009.
Here is the simple form:
Dim d_StartDate As DateTime = "1-10-2009"
Dim i_NumberOfDays As Integer = 12
Dim i_CalculateNumberOfDays As Integer

I have made a PRN file using the "Print to file" option, and now I want to make a VB.net application that will print it directly to a TCP/IP printer which is not currently installed on the computer. Is it possible to achieve this by simply opening a connection to the printer's IP and sending all the bytes of the PRN file to it, or is it more complex than that?

I have a situation where I have an xml document that has a bunch of elements that I basically use as data variables. I populate the variables from various sources and then transform the xml file to an html file for user viewing.having to remember the names of all the data elements in the file is somewhat tedious. Is there a way to generate a strongly typed xml document object so that one can simply dot into the various data elements?
