I have two tables Products and Categories with a many to many relationship. I am trying to copy the categories linked to one product (OriginalProduct) to another product (newProduct). The problem is when I execute the SaveChanges() method, I not only get the records in my linking table, but it also creates another copy of the categories in the categories table. I've tried this in many ways but here are the last couple that I've attempted:

View 5 RepliesI am trying to do a SQL query to see if an Address already exists in my database. My addresses are structure like this:

line3
city
state
zipcode
country
Sometimes line2 and line3 are NULL values in my database.I am using .NET TableAdapter and DataTable to make my query. When I try to pass in my line2 parameter (@line2) it is equal to a string with value = nothing. My database does not interpret this as NULL and says the records don't match, but I know they do? How do I pass in a string = nothing and have it compare to a NULL value in the database as being equal? I have tried string = DBNULL.value but won't compile.I have done similar comparisons with integers etc. using integer = Nullable (of integer) but this does not exist for strings.

I am using Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic) and MS Access 2003 I am trying to build an application in the lines of the book "Doing Objects in Visual Basic 2005" by Deborah Kurata. So, I have a Data Access Layer (DAL) Class Library that is separated from the business logic layer (business objects) Class Library. I try to add a new business object such as a "Customer" to the Access Database, where the "Customer" table has a PrimaryKey "CustomerID" which is an AutoNumber field. I am successful in writing the values to the database, but I can't figure out how to know the "CustomerID" of a newly added "Customer" so I can populate the business object with the respective values.

View 1 RepliesI am creating an application install program, but one of the main things i cannot get working is the combobox, this is a drop down list of all my applications that i have put in there. I was wondering if there was a way you could tell the combobox to look at a directory or share and list the names of files within it? So, for example i could place 5 programs inside a share or directory then when i run the program and the click the drop down combo the 5 programs are listed and then i can click and install this program. Also then if i add/remove any programs it also removes it from the combo list.

now if I add 10 names in the table from (1-10) =1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 ,10
then if I delete name number 6 the IDD field will rearrange it self from( 1-9)=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 instead of 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10

When the user types in an item number and clicks on the button, the system will populate the datagridview with the relevant data from the database.All these works fine but, when the user tries to add another record, the first record added to the datagridview is cleared off the datagridview before the next record is displayed. I would like the datagridview to add all the records without clearing the screen. The datagridview is not bounded to the database.

lblTotalWeightCalc.Text += NewDV.Item(i)("Weight")
This will get the Weight and display it in my label. But when I select more than one item (which will have two weights) it will show: For Example:
Item #1 : Weight = 20
Item #2: Weight= 50
The total Weight= 2050 (it doesn't add them together) I need them to be added together....
