I have a string that I need to split. I need both parts of the string returned.
I need to split the string after the last alpha character and create a string array from the 2 seperate results.
The string will always varry, but there will always be at least 1 alpha char at the beginning of the string. Here are some examples:
AB1/2
Should return as "AB" and "1/2"
ABC1 1/4

Is there any way that I can use to split every character in a string?
Example:

I want to get every character one by one and put it in array.I tried to use Split function but I think there is no delimiter for such kind.
How should I split a string separated by a multi-character delimiter in VB?

I am wondering if it is possible to take a string, split it at a certain character and then put the 2 parts in different text boxes.
For example:
String: PCNAME%Message
Textbox1: PCNAME

View 7 RepliesI have a String with 15 places that I would like to split into 3 pieces: (First 3 digits), (next 3 digits), (remaining 9 digits).
How in VB2008 can I do that? Everything I have read so far indicates seperating by a certain character (ie: "," or " ") but no mention of character place. Seems like a simple thing, but after 2 hours of searching I'm still coming up empty
I'm trying to split a Yahoo historical stock price csv file, downloaded into a string, by what looks like a space character. I want a new row for each split. The split function works for other characters I see in the string. I suspect the characters may be a non breaking space character but I've been unable to split on them. This is the test csv file that is downloaded into the string: [URL] I'm trying to split the string like this:

View 1 RepliesIs there a way to use the string.split command to get a section of a string without using an intermediary array?for example, if my string is "1 2" and I want to get the "2" part using string.split(" "), is there a way to avoid creating a new array, and just get the bit of the string I want in a single line?
View 4 RepliesAfter having some trouble in my own code using String.Split and the Split(String(), Int32, StringSplitOptions) overload, I decided to look to the MSDN.I copied the entire VB.NET code example from this link: url...I placed it in a new class, and received the following errors (same errors as my own code example):[code]Why can my code not recogognize the string() parameter overloads to String.Split? Remember, i took the code from the MSDN link above, copied and pasted and it still did not work.I am counting on using the string() instead of char() overloads shown here: url...

I want to take a string from a text box and split each letter of the string into an array. Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)
Here's what I've come up with so far:

View 1 Repliesi was unable to implement a multiline label or a transparent multiline textbox. So ive come up with the long way.I have paragraph of words (approx 100) that changes on a click. i want to split the paragraph into blocks of 20 and create 5 strings.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
I am writing a hangman type game and I am displaying the word to the user in a label as all *'s, but I cannot figure out how to have just one of the *'s changed in the label to the correct letter when the user inputs the correct letter into the text box and clicks the check letter button.Everything else in the program works perfectly, except for this part.[code]When I use the .Replace it changes all of the *'s to the correct selected letter.

for example, can i do this:
split = temp_string.Split("<beginning of record>")
those of you recommended:
split = Regex.Split(temp_string, "< beginning of record >")
its not working. its just returning the first char "<"
and those of you that recommended:
Dim myDelims As String() = New String(){"< beginning of record >"}
split = temp_string.Split(myDelims, StringSplitOptions.None)
this is not working either. it's also returning just the first char
I have a WCF application, written in VB.NET that takes a generic Dictionary(Of String, String) as one of the parameters.When I pass in a Key/Value pair that has a backslash as one of the characters in the value, the client automatically changes the entire value to Nothing or in the XML it shows this:
<Value i:nil="true />
Is there some special way to escape backslashes when passing them in a string to a WCF service? As far as I know the backslash isn't a reserved character in XML.
