View 3 RepliesIn PHP you can use fopen(Path) to read from a file. The Path can be either a local file (in the usual formats /etc/file or c:file.txt) OR it can be a URL in which case PHP will open a http connection and read from the remote location
I'd like to achieve the same in VB.Net. I'm not aware of any framework function which will achieve this.
I'm currently pattern matching the path against a Regex for a valid URL - If I get a match, I open the file using a httpwebrequest otherwise I try to use the local file system.
Private Function RetrieveBGImage() As Image
Dim Ret As Image
If Not (IsURL(_BackgroundImage) Or IsLocalFile(_BackgroundImage)) Then
Throw New Exception(String.Format("Unable to load from uri ""{0}""",
[Code].....
NB: I'm aware that the logic above is inefficient and actually ends up calling IsURL() more than it has to
How would I go about doing something like this? Would it even be possible?

I have a File i need to read and extract a few values from each line in the file. my problem as it stand the file i'm reading has some unconsistatcys as all of the Strings are seprated by " " but the integers are not they are Without any Speech marks to define them. I have thought of a methord to deal with this but i can't for the life of me think how to achive this.
As the file has unconstancys to be used with a standard " " extractor, the only consistancy is that there is allways a " before the integer and after attached to another column. this could be used i thought.
a Sample of the data is only one line:

I am after some simple code to retrieve a txt file of a server (http) and store it in a string.
I have had a look around, but non luck.
I am using VB2010 on Windows 7
I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words. For Example:Words: trying, long, array Sentence: "I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words."Resulting string array:Multiple instances of the same word is likely, so having two instances of trying cause a split, or of array, will probably happen.
View 5 RepliesI'm writing a program in Visual Basic 2010. It's a HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and therefore has a whole whack of buttons that just send commands to other devices. As a result, there are a huge pile of event handlers for clicking buttons that can't really be broken down into modules (unless my understanding of modules is wrong). Essentially, I'd like to be able to move all the event handlers, for, say, button presses to a different file. Can this be done or is it important that they stay in "MainWindow.xaml.vb"? (All my buttons reside in one fullscreen window, some are hidden by tabs).

this_date = "1-2-09"
// user input

this_date = "2-22-2009"

(there is no limit to how many "this_date" lines or "//user input lines" there are in the file and additions are made often ) When I read the file in vb I wish to only capture the last "this_date" only as the rest are irrelevant.
