I'm trying to input this into an array and then a combo box using:
dim item as integer
dim array() as string
dim ifile as integer
[CODE]............
What I want to do is to display the right part of the delimited text (Z920081, Z920082, etc) in the combo box. But when you select the item in the combo box, I want it to use the left part of the delimited text (21, 22, 59, 120, etc) as a variable for other use.
I've got a problem reading in a Tab-Delimited text file. There's an extra tab in one of the fields its reading it thats not a delimiter, and it's throwing off me reading the file into a table. This specific file does have quotations around that field though.
What would be the best way to take that tab out before splitting the row by vbTab?
Im reading each line in the text field like this, splitting on vbTab. X is a string array
I have a text file with for example this data in it :
"19 Mar 2010","6:00","16:00","10","1","9","6.61","59.49" "20 Mar 2010","9:45","19:15","10","1","9","6.61","69.89" "21 Mar 2010","9:00","17:00","8","1","8","6.61","99.32"
I used " , " to delimit individual pieces of data and " " to denote end of line.I'd like to be able to split the files into lines and assign each line to an array then split each of those array strings into the comma " , " delimited data and feed each piece of data into another array ready for writing to a datagridview.
I've spent a while trying to get Split() to work but I get errors regarding converting strings to one-dimensional arrays Also the Split() method asks for a "ParamArray" but I haven't been able to find examples of other people providing them on the net any idea what those are about?
I have a text file, with several lines of comma delimited data. The easy part is that each item fits into the same field, so I can use a 2 dimensional array. I would like to use .net classes to do this, not the old file handling functions I was used to.How can I take the text file and load the data in the text file into a 2 dimensional array.Here is example data in test.txt
I recently asked a question about reading a file with Streamreader to variables arrays, but I made it more complicated than need be. Here is the simple version of what I am trying to do:
dim MyNumber(1) as String
strMyFile = 100,200 (I already have this)This is the result that I am trying to make happen:
MyNumber(0)=100 MyNumber(1) =200
I would also like the result to be MyNumber(0), MyNumber(1) as double, but I could do that in a later step. This is almost embarrassing to ask, because it is probably basic stuff.
When I use to do some Delphi programming you were able to define variable as a target for a comma delimited file and then under that give variable names for each field to fall into. I forget the syntax now but it looked something like this...
Using Getline as Record: RecordId = Integer RecordName = String RecordAddress = String;
Im writing a program where im trying to split some text imported from a textfile into a textbox into an array.The array is undefined and i would like each piece of text to be an element in the array. I would then like to sort this information into alphabetical order.This is the code I have at present; I apologise if any appears to be out of sequence or whatever, VB is a rather puzzling language to myself!
PS i have the code behind a button as you can tell from the code.
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click Dim textInput As String textInput = TextBox1.Text
i want to take a comma delimited text file and then select all unique records based on one of the fields in the text file. should i read the text file into a data table or just use a data reader?
I used to do a bit of coding in early versions of VB years ago but moved on to things like RPG400, CL and SQL on an AS/400 box. As I am no longer in this career, I havent touched an AS/400 for a while either.
I am currently working on a visual basic console application in Visual Studio 2005 which takes various csv files from an osCommerce web shop, processes them and writes the data to TAS Books accounts software with the aid of the Infoplex COM module.
I have 2 functions, one reads each line of a csv file into an array, and the second function uses Regex to split the lines array into the various fields before they are added to a structure.
There are something like 5000 records (lines) in the csv file, one example is as follows;
[Code]...
My problem is that due to the formatting of the product description in the example csv line above, it fails the Regex match and therefore fails to read.
I know this is because my pattern is wrong, but I'm not sure how to solve it, I think all I really need is for Regex to split the line by the "," between each element, this might be a little difficult because some of the descriptions contain both , and " but never one after the other.
So i'm new to working with vba in access and i'm having trouble getting this code to work. What it is suppose to do is take a selected text file and read the original file into a list box. Then there is a second button that when pressed will convert the text file from a pipe delimited file into a tab delimited file and then show the changed file into a new listbox.

I need to be able to select a title from a listbox (lstBooks) and I need the data from a comma delimited text file (books.txt) to flow into a form (frmDetails)when I click the UpdateToolStripMenu button. Program is attached.

I need to split one variable into 3 variables. For example I have a variable called Data and it contains AAA00000001. I need to have them be split between the "AAA", "0000000", and "1". I looked at the Split() function but didn't get a clear example for this situation. The reason I need to do this is because I want to store these 3 variables into fields for a MySQL database.
I'm trying to parse a text file. First I plan on extrcating each line, then extracting each field by searching for a tasb.When I use InStr to search for a (return for end of line) or (for tab) I always get a zero. But if I put in a visable letter such as a I got a 5.also I tried /r, /n and all return a zero.The file looks as follows:
This is my first program that I'm trying to write. I have been trying to make an application to run a date filtered query against a SQL server and output the results into a txt file that I define. I believe that my code is close for getting the data. I cannot figure out how to actually write the data into a text file. I am trying to use the datareader and streamwriter, but I am not sure what to put in the streamwriter.Write() function to actually get it to past the lines in the text file.
I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel.Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]
I want to load a csv file (A comma delimited text file) into a datatable. I found the OdbcDataAdapter Class which looks perfect, but it says it is supported only in version 1.1 of the .NET Framework.
Is there a better way to import a csv file into a datatable? the first line has the column headers.
I am using Visual Studio 2008, using version 3.5 of the .NET framework
I have I text tab delimited file. in every line of that file at the same position in every row of the file I will have a bit that I would want to compare against 23 values (I will call them criteria). So if on every row the string I need matches one of tjhese values then that row will be written in File1.Txt if that value doesn`t match any of the criteria the whole row will be sent to File2.txt.
So far managed to get the original file written in the same format in a newly created file.
how to get the functionality I described working but am stuck with correct syntax.
Here is what I have so far:
Dim fs As New FileStream("C:Original.txt", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read) RichTextBox1.Text = "" Dim d As New StreamReader(fs)
[Code]....
Now I will need to declare every single row in RichTextBox1 as String then will have to get the bit I need will have to declare that as well(I will need from every row the string taht is between characters 96 and 104), also where do I keep the 23 criteraia values.
I am exporting a directory list from a FTP directory to a text file, I would like any suggestions how best to read and split the information detailed on each row in the text file as information isn't Tab Delimited (which i have code for if it was) and the number of spaces between each attribute is different. Below is a snippet of the text file, the main two I require is the File Size and the Filename.

I have a large tab delimited text file to process each day (usually around 25 mb) consisting of usually well over 100,000 lines. The file is actually made up of about 9 or 10 reports separated by "END OF REPORT". I'm wanting to write each individual report to it's own text file. Some values may have trailing spaces or even contain nothing but spaces, so I am wanting to trim those to only the data, or be left with null. Ultimately each report will be imported into sql server tables. The code I have below runs successfully to completionwithout error although each text file is empty. The script is also extremely slow and seems to use quite a bit of memory. The arguments are ad
I've got a problem in Importing Text delimited File to access Db , I always get an error "No value given for one or more required parameters' while execution [Select Into] Statement

I previously asked a question about my meeting planner app, and how to delete a specific entry in the array. Someone had the interesting suggestion of using a ArrayList, instead of a normal array. I am attempting to learn ArrayList, but to no good result. I can't even get the ToString method to work correctly to write what I want it to into a text file.[code]...
My plan is to have each of those three fields to have their own entry in the ArrayList, but when it is saved to text file, those three fields are comma delimited to a line for each appointment. Of course when the text is loaded, it will have to be converted back. Can anyone point me in the right direction or have any other method of going about this with the ArrayList?

what would be the easiest way to open a comma delimited text file - each field is surrounded by quotes - and then analyze this file to find the record with the most fields being used? right now i bring the file into and access db then loop through each record to see if there is any data.
