I need to design a search/filter for a DataGridView. The search contains 2 comboboxes and 1 textbox. combobox1 are the field names, combobox2 is the criteria (=, <>, like), and the textbox is to input values.
For example:Users will select the Road Name field from combobox1, "=" from combobox2, and Main St will be typed in the textbox. After a button is pressed, the datagridview should filter to whatever the user inputs.

I'm a bit of a noob at this and finding that all my research that's led me to wanting to do things right for data integrity are making it a bit more complicated on the front end.
Presently I have a Form in which I have two DataGridViews that I'm populating, each with it's respective stored procedure.
What the form is for is for linking rows from the one DataGridView (I'll call it DGV1) to a different one in the other DataGridView (DGV2).
Now to facilitate the ease of doing this for the user I want to both have the dgvs fully populated so that if the user wants they can just slide on through and manually select the rows in each they want and then there'll be a button to select which I'm planning to then use another stored procedure to then insert this connection between these two items into the database.
Another thing to facilitate this is a search bar. I want them to be able to type in something and have the datagridviews both navigate to where their selection is as well as selecting it so that it's then ready to be bound to the selection in the other.
What I'm wanting to know, and having a hard time figuring out, is how do you get such a search function to work on DataGridViews that I have bound to these read only stored procedures? How do I search and select within the DataGridView? And then how would I go about using the selection from two different datagridviews and putting those as parameters in the stored procedure that I wanted to use to then record the relationship in the database?

I need to do in other platforms but seem to be having some issues with VB .net 2008.I have a datagridview bound to an SQL table that has several comboboxes.the rowSource (is it called that still?) for each of the comboBoxes are SQL lookup tables that I've created and based on the the users selection in ComboBox1, comboBox2's datasource may change.What I want is, if the user picks "Dental" from ComboBox1, I want comboBox2 to load Dental plans (Which I have working, no problem here I think).And if they pick "medical" in ComboBox1, comboBox2 loads medical plans in comboBox2 dropDown list, which, again that part seems to be working.If in the first row in the DGV,the user selects "Dental" for comboBox1 and then a Dental plan in ComboBox2,on the next row, if the user inputs "Medical" in ComboBox1, the first rows ComboBox2's "Dental plan" info disappears.
The medical plan can still be selected and displayed in row 2's comboBox2 (so the changing of the datasource is working)If you then click anywhere in the first row, ComboBox2's dental plan appears again but Row2's combobox2 now no longer displays the medical plan.Becuase whatever value you choose, no matter if it's a medical or dental plan, the info gets saved in the DGV bound table, shouldn't it display the saved information from the DGV's source and not the shifting comboBoxes datasources?

Then I am putting distributing this numbers to datagridview. i want to define a dynamic range. This range is important when I am calculating the some statistical function. I am relatively new to C# and winforms, although I have been using Java for years, so forgive me if im asking something relatively straightforward!I have a DataGridView, it needs to update regularly so I wish to provide a Collection of objects as its DataSource and NOT a database table.So far I have a List<MyObject> which will be constantly updated via a BackgroundWorker thread. I want my DataGridView to update when a change has been made to the List i.e. if the objects are resorted, added to or deleted from etc.Currently my DataGridView only displays the first object I add to the List, if I add more the DataGridView doesn't update to display the new objects added.This is a basic overview of how im coding it:

I am attempting to set up a datagridview that is dynamic based on user input. The user input is a start and end date. The start date defines the first column the next column is the next date... until the end date (x-axis). The y-axis is technicians and the fields will show the assignment for the technician on that date.
All the advise I am seeing on datagridviews is to create a property methods to provide the information for each column. for example:

How do I create a object data source that allows me to populate the data grid? I want the column headers to be included as a string in row 0 of the multidimensional array. The amount of columns will be dynamic with a minimum of 1 and maximum viewing of 100 days based on what dates are selected in the start date and end date fields.The input dates will be used to generate a query to a database that will populate the multidimensional array.One solution I see is pick a start date and have a set number of dates and code for set number of columns (100) in a row and then set the names of the columns dynamically...ahhhh code repetition!
I am not sure how else to do this but looking for a more suttle way.I am using this to create a simple scheduling tool to see resource schedules by date. There is an unmoveable end date so initially I will need to look ahead 100 days but as the end date gets closer, I will have fewer and fewer dates. So eventually the end date will be that start date.

I integrated the access database in VB.NET using Data->Add new Data source and I successfully made it. Now I got a DataGridView. :) Now arises a question How to search a name in "First Name" Column? I just Googled to find row Filter. That appeared gr8 to me till I got a problem of adding new records. Once I applied Filter, I couldn't see the Addition of new records and I can't make selection process in DataGridView. Then I found that Filtering is not Searching. Any one to help me in searching the data in Dataview?

i had seen a prog. where an option was given over the dgv wherein the user can type a value and on press of enter the dgv was getting filtered with that value to make my self more clear.a row containing as many cols. as there r in the dgv where given and the option was to set a filter on the dgv for the values of the box over the dgv. same col over the dgv. col.i asked the person how he has done it and he said it was an ad hoc row.i have searched a lot but fail to find out anything.
View 6 RepliesI have a search form on that will be pulling search template queries from a table in the underlying (an Access db on a share). The search form has a calendar control for filtering by date range, a listbox containing the names of the search templates, a second listbox which lists the fields in the selected template, and then some controls which show/hide themselves depending on which field is selected so that the user can pick a field and enter it's unique criteria in the appropriate control for filtering. Below these controls is a DataGrid, which will obviously display the results.
The problem is how to dynamically "transform" this DataGrid to display the selected search template. These templates do not represent tables in the underlying; rather they represent preconstructed SQL queries (stored in a table) which are essentially SELECT queries with joins and no WHERE clause (so they are the results of multiple tables joined together by their keys).
To be honest, I'm having trouble even generating the LINQ queries to represent these template dynamically, but that's not as important, since I can manually translate the SQL queries into LINQ. This is definitely not the preferred method, as the whole point of putting these templates in a table, rather than code, was to allow for future additions without rebuilding/redistributing the application interface.

I am trying to find or search record from a datagridview so I could replace it with a new data from a textbox. I used the datasource.find() method the only problem is...If the my Table consist only of one Row, the find method replaces that one row everytime i insert a data. The tutorial teaches us how to do it through query builder in which we just have to type LIKE@fieldname = '%' for each field we wish to appear on a toolstrip. A toolstrip menu will automatically be generated and placed underneath the form bar for us after we click ok.
Now, I would like to know how can I do this with code? I can use a code which will move the auto generated toolstrip into the tabcontrol but when I have more than 1 tabcontrol, that's when I start having problems - the toolstrips are starting to cover up the tabcontrol. I know I can move the datagridview lower but that is going to leave a big space above it.
