Stop Application Closing Until Backgroundworker Finished?
Jul 25, 2010How can I stop my application quitting until a backgroundworker has finished? Its an updater, so basically I want the form to hide until the download is finished, and then exit.I've tried to make a setting to tell the app when it is still downloading, and on form closing check this variable, but it won't work. For some reason it still quits!The update window is in a separate form to the main form, so the user clicks 'Finish', the update form closes and the main form stays open.[code]

Jun 17, 2010I am trying to display the progress bar(marque) in a separate form (progressForm) while i do some calculation in background. I know the typical way of doing it is to include the calculation in background worker and show progressForm in main thread. This approach how ever will lead to lot of synch issues in my application hence I am showing the progressForm using progressForm.ShowDialog() inside the background worker process. But I need to trigger the Completed event with in the application to close the form.

May 9, 2010I am looking for guidance regarding a form I am popping up where people have to fill in some information. When something is empty the form shouldnt disappear.
I tried doing this with a showDialog. but when I check the onclick button event the a messagebox come up and show the error/message but then when ok is clicked the form is closed.

Closing Application Via X Button Without Closing Forms Inside Mdiparent Causes Exception Error
May 3, 2010Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?

The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?

Stopping Multiple Timers - Stop Button To Stop Each Timer One At A Time
Feb 26, 2009Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

VS 2010 : Use A Stop Button To Stop A Loop?
Dec 7, 2009I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.now i think it means that it cant find the mysql connecter and data and stuff but the user shouldn't need to have that right? it should come with the app to make it work for everyone
Change App Background After The App Is Completed?

now the app is built as a .exe and i would like to add more images to be able to change the background image... is there a special folder that contains my app images, or are they embedded in my application?
or is there a way to update the exe with new images... this is a new field for me, so make it simple..

Using process.start ("filename"), i was able to run the exe file. After that i send Alt U to Unzip the content.. Finally the Self Extractor sends message "xx files unzipped successfully..." or similar...
Now, how do I find out the the extraction is completed or the msgbox "xx files unzipped successfully..." popped up ? (I don't like to go thru the window title as there might be other thing going on...)

Mar 1, 2011I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?

Oct 19, 2009I made an icon for my program and tried to implement it.Funniest thing though, I get a message with the error icon saying the operation completed successfully.But the icon doesn't change, nor is it my icon drop down box when I click the arrow. Mar 15, 2011I'm trying to develop an application which searches a sql server database. One particular search entered by the user actually sends seven queries to the database. I've designed it so each of the seven queries is conducted in a seperate backgroundworker, so that they run and return their hits concurrently. When the user enters a search term, a routine (runSearch) is called , which in turn causes each seperate backgroundworker to run.This work fine when the user enters a single search term.I'm now trying to allow the user to enter multiple search terms in a multiline textbox. I iterate through the lines in the textbox and call runsearch for each line. I assumed that the progam would wait for each call to runsearch to complete, before running the next.
I now find out this is not the case. When I call runSearch, the backgroundworkers are set in motion. The next line in the textbox then calls runSearch again, but the backgroundworkers from the previous calling of runSearch are still running. This throws up an error stating that the backgroundworker is still busy and cannot be called.I need a way to test that all of the backgroundworkers have completed before running runsearch again. If one or more of the backgroundworkers are still running
IDE :: Debugging Error - Operation Could Not Be Completed
Jan 19, 2006I am running on the VB8 and expirienced an error during debugging after some changes in "My project" area. I have noticed (on two different machine) that after change for example Startup Form or Security Area, I am not able to debug program any longer. An error appears, telling me that:
The Operation Could not be completed.
After clicking OK (nothing else is available) and next try of debugging, another error message appear:
Visual Studio could not copy a support file to this location: "path". Please verify the path exists and is writeable. After that, I have to close Visual Basic and restart it. Than everything works fine...till next change of "My project"
