I'm trying to create a program that will read in a custom file similar to a config/INI file and parse the data and store them into variables of a custom class. Essentially I want to be able to read in line by line, split the line by the space and then store the value into a class object's variable with the same name.
For example, I have a class called body.
Public Class body
Dim height As Double
Dim weight As Double
End Class
I want to create a custom class that has inside an array of another custom class (see my code below) but when the programm runs is crashes. Why? What is the right expression???? Plz help I'm a newbie in VB.net.....
Public Class ctrarray Public nameclass As String Public ctrlindex(glvar_spaces) As ctrlindexclass End Class
I am at a new company and I am building a wizard for a web app, (.Net/4.0). The user goes to a few separate screens during the wizard process and must return to the original screen before completion of the wizard. This is different from how they normally do this. But this is how it is TO BE DONE.
One option is to store the result of each panel in the main screen in the DB. So then, when the user leaves & redirects back. I could check for a querystring then call a datareader and populate original values appropriately.
I've been creating short test apps repeatedly to try to understand some of the concepts in VB.NET.For the most part it has been illuminating.I read Bucky's .NET knowlegebase tutorial on passing objects as parameters to newly created forms. He shows how to create a new class that inherits from the base form class and define a New() method with parameters Extending the concept I thought about doing the same thing with a form that was created at design-time (In this case Form2).
I'm trying to add functionality to my application to let user define "custom actions" in one of the context menus.Essentially, these would be command lines that can be executed against remote machines.I've got the code to add the menu items working but I'm not sure of the best of storing the data related to the menu items. At the moment I'm using a Specialized.StringCollection in the project settings but this only allows me to store a single line (i.e. the command line). This means that the text of the menu items is whatever command line the user has defined (not ideal). What I would like is to have a "friendly" name for the menu item (e.g. Start Notepad) and have that associated to notepad.exe.What's a good way to store this data so that I best dynamically build the menu items every time?
i'm working on a code that i want to start creating new classes with but i want to know if there's a more direct way to send the variables used in the form to a new class for storage.
for example i've got this on a form...
Dim ClassID As String Dim ClassName As String Dim Grade As String
[Code]....
you know? so what would be my most direct route to get this? how should i start?
I am calling a XML web service (standard web service project based on .NET 3.5) and trying to pass custom types as parameters. The custom types are defined in my consuming code and the web service references an assembly from the consuming code to get access to the types. The serialization is being handled by .NET.
<WebMethod()> _ Public Function MyMethod() As MyType Dim myValue as new MyType return myValue End Function
In my consuming code I created a web reference to the service and the proxy classes were created. I gave the service the namespace "WebService". Next I try to make a call to the service and assign the result from the call to a variable, something like this:
Dim service As New WebService.ServiceNameSoapClient Dim response As New MyType response = service.MyMethod()
I get an error from the IDE saying that it cannot convert type mynamespace.WebService.MyType to mynamespace.Entities.MyType. It appears to me that although the types are similar they are being treated as different because of the different namespaces, which makes sense of course.
Edit: So from what I am reading I believe this is by design, that is the proxy types are simply different types and cannot be directly associated with the types in the consuming code.
Today, I'm proceeding with my college work, and am having a little trouble. I'm writing a function, but would like to pass custom types through as parameters, for example Function Game(Section as Game_Section) code here End Function I tried using a structure, but it kept giving me errors
I want to store a fairly large amount of static data in a class library.I have used a library before that does this, containing info for thousands of items. The person who made the library got that info from a database and somehow stored it in the library such that you could access it in a variety of ways using different methods. (ID, Name, etc)
I'm making a custom class that mocks the System.Drawing.Rectangle class because the Rectangle class doesn't have a name property. I need a name property because I am adding all of my rectangles to a collection and I need a little more info stored than just their locale and size. So I changed the _onPaint event but nothing is working out when I run the program?
Public Class Rectanglar : Inherits UserControl Public BackgroundColor As Color = Color.Blue Public Sub New(ByVal name As String, ByVal XY As Point, ByVal Widthy As Integer, ByVal Heighty As Integer)
I'm trying to implement a Web API project that exposes some models. However, the way the model is retrieved isn't very RESTful. 1.Instead of having just one ID, it has a combination of 4 different ones to populate the model data by running a stored proc on the server.Dim balance as New BalanceSheet(uid, mid, eid, fid)The snippet above will use uid, mid, eid, fid to retrieve the correct record from the database.
GOAL: Bind nested ListViews to LINQ generated iQueryable of anonymous type. I want to use LINQ because you can use GroupBy and bind the nested ListView to the 'it' keyword.
SETUP: I have groups of sets of conditions. Each set of conditions is stored in the BillingCodes table. Each group of BillingCodes is stored in the BillingGroups table.
I have a custom object that stores the ID, Name, and NumCodes for each BillingGroup that the user has chosen.I have a collection of these objects called GroupsList that has a list of the groups that the user has chosen.
Problem 1: I can iterate through GroupsList and grab all the IDs. How do I translate the SQL 'WHERE ID IN(a string of comma delineated IDs)' for LINQ to SQL? Is that the best way to do that?
Problem 2: Once I have the list of BillingGroups I need to iterate through each group. For each group, I need to iterate through the BillingCodes. For each BillingCode I need to generate a WHERE clause that has all of the conditions in the BillingCode. I propose something like so:
for each BillingGroup in BillingGroups for each BillingCode in BillingGroup.BillingCodes where1 = "..." next next
Problem 3: Here's the part where I don't have a clue. I need to dynamically create a query in LINQ to SQL. Keep in mind that I don't know how many groups there'll be or how many codes are in each group.
I would need samples/hints on how to progammatically generate executable files after taking custom parameters from the user.I have looked into codedom and I almost got it to work except for the little fact that my application launches the console too and it's meant to be a simple windows form.
A friend in work suggested the use on classe to store the parameters BEFORE call a method. He's said this is called "Abstract Class". My "know how" of VB.NET is small... so, I want to know of you what mode is the best way: Call a function/sub like that:
I'm rewriting a small application and I'm working on moving the data access logic from the form to a separate class. All was working will when I had all the code in the form. Lets say I had code similar to this in my form:
Most of our code base is in VB.NET. I'm developing a project in C# that uses a lot of the assemblies from the VB.NET code. There are three relevant classes in VB.NET:
I've got a program where the insert/update SQL was created with the values coded directly into the SQL string. I've changed this to use the Command's Parameters.AddWithValue method and all worked well. I'm now in the process of separating the data access code out into it's own class. I've got the Select code working using a DataSet in the form that I pass ByRef to my data class so it can populate or refresh it. My sticking point is in how to pass the parameters for the Insert/Update commands to the class since from the form I no longer have access to a Command object. Do I need to make the Command object in the data access class available to the form?
It is in the file ClientProfile I have placed in both App_Code and also App_Code/Models
In my code behind I have the following
[CODE]...
The last word, "ClientProfile" has the scary squiggly red line below it. It is not recognizing my class.Even the Intellisense is not picking up te class. Do I have to register the class file in any way?
I am trying to create a program that takes cd information (ARTIST TITLE COUNTRY COMPANY PRICE AND YEAR) and saves it onto a XML file. The info is entered into separate text boxes. The program should also store 3 cd in memory before batch writing it to the xml file?
I've been searching around these forums for quite a while now, and can't seem to either understand or find what I'm looking for.I have a text file, that my program is always adding to it, it's format is like so:
Line 1: UserName (For User 1) Line 2: FilePath (For User 1) Line 3: UserName (For User 2)
I am going to try to explain this the best I can I didn't develop the original version of this, or the part that rights it to the database.in our company, there is a program that takes PDF files and stores them in our mysql database as blobs. The blobs are attached to inventory items by the inventory items ID. they are basically certificates. That is basically all I know about it.
however, I was asked to show the PDF files for certain associates that may want to view them. ie, if a sales person looks up item 1234 and there is a stored PDF certificate for the item, be able to access the pdf and show it to the employee if they want to see it.The code that I found that was previously wrote to view the PDFs takes the blog, create the file in the app.path directory, and then uses shell to launch it like a normal PDF.
I don't have a problem using the adobe pdf reader to launch the file, but is there a more efficient way other than creating the file on any machine in our company where someone wants to view the PDF ?
Hi, I've created a login screen for my application and defined the username and password using the following code
If UsenameBox.Text = "username" and PasswordBox.Text = "password" Then Me.Hide() Main.Show()
It works great however, I need the user to be able to set their own password using a registration form with the details being stored in a xml file. There are no security concerns with the password being stored in a text file as it's a mock login screen.
I have a map with a MapItemsControl in my WP7 app that contains pushpins bound to items in a collection of custom classes. The pushpins are bound to properties of the item in the collection via a DataTemplate. When an item is added to or removed from the collection, all pins display correctly, with properties as per bindings, but when just an items' properties are modified, the UI does not update. The bindings just seem to get values from the source item upon loading, but I'd like them to keep the UI elements updated when the source collection items' properties are updated. To illustrate, I'll create a similar example:
Heres a custom class:
Public Class Box Property CurrentColor As Color Property Location As GeoCoordinate End Class
[code]....
Whenever I add or remove items from TempBoxes, the pins all render as they should (e.g. if I specify a color in the collection item, the pin shows the color).Tapping on the item triggers the BoxTouched sub, which causes the item's color to change in the collection, but the UI doesn't change (pin color stays the same). To get the UI to update the color, I have to get it to render the pins again, by adding something like this to BoxTouched:
I'm working on a project which needs some third party components prequisites to be installed before installing my .NET Application. Can someone tell me how to do it ?? I'm using .NET prequisites components to install the components like (.NET Framework 3.5,Windows installer 3.1,Crystal Reports) but what if i have some third party components which is not listed in prequisite lists ...
I recently had the problem of trying to store an enormous amount of decimal places in a variable. Someone suggested that I create my own class to handle this. However I have researched extensively and can't seem to find a suggestion as to how I would do this. Would I read each digit into a list? How would I get each digit as to loop through a decimal, for example, and add each digit would still only give me 28 decimal places
Error Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.DataRowView' to type 'M8_Rating.myItem'.Any idea what the deal is?
Dim MyItems As New List(Of MyItem) For Each selItem As myItem In lb_forms_SecurityMgr.SelectedItems() MyItems.Add(New myItem With {.Description = selItem.Description, .Value = selItem.Value})
