Generate Executable From An Executable?

Jul 24, 2011

I Actually want to provide a new service which requires creating executables on the fly from executables generated in vb.net. For example lets say I have a form with a textbox and in that textbox we pass an argument which is for example the serial of the product, then we have a button which once clicked will generate an executable on the fly which has also a textbox requiring that serial to run? That was only an example but the main thing is how to generate that exe on the fly.

How To Generate Random Sentence Taking Words From Arrays

Nov 14, 2010

I'm trying to create a program that produces random sentences as output. With five arrays of strings, one each for nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, and articles. Each array should hold several words for that part of speech. Like, the Articles array could hold the strings "the" and "a"; the Nouns array could hold "Martian", "baby", "skunk","computer" and "mosquito"; the Prepositions array could hold "around", "through", "under", "over", and "by"; and so on.

It's supposed to generate sentences by randomly choosing eight words (randomly generating eight array indices) from these arrays, always constructing sentences by using the parts of speech in the following order: article, adjective, noun, verb, preposition, article, adjective, noun. Also, the code should be properly modularized so that the code to generate each part of speech is not repeated.

Making A Compiler - Generate An Executable ?

Jun 19, 2009

I have started a project that is like a compiler, but very simple. Basically no coding required for the user. My question is do you have to convert the vb.net code into ASM?, (which i can do if necessary). Or how do you generate an executable with vb.net? I have seen it done with such things as cryptors, if you know what those are .

Generate A Single Executable File With 2005 Express Edition?

Mar 18, 2010

We use VB to create an HMI for an industrial environment. Currently, the computer we use has VB2005 Express Edition installed. When the application is developed, we take the Release folder which contains 7 files and place in on the computer with a shortcut to the executable.My boss stumbled upon another integrator that has a single executable. They apparently can stick this executable on any computer and it will run. He says that the "visual basic runtime" is included in the executable and it "just runs".I know just enough about VB to do what I need to do and am not overly familiar with all the inner workings. I seem to recall VB5 & 6 having a single executable as long as the runtime was installed already.Does VB2005 have the capability of a single executable?

Defining Path To Executable For A Custom Control?

Jul 30, 2010

I have created a custom control using VB.NET in Visual Studio 2008 that gives extensive mapping and tracking functionality to a search and rescue app. The problem I am having is that in a number of places I need to define the path to the main applications executable in order to find a number of directories the control needs to function properly. Everything works fine when I am using it in VS but when I try to embed the control in a form in a separate solution I get the following error:

Failed to create component
'MainControl'. The error message
follows:

[Cod]....

This seems to indicate that it is looking for the GISDataDefault directory in the Visual Studio program path but I have used Application.StartupPath to define this location throughout the control.

This error only occurs when attempting to embed the control in a form outside of the controls solution. The solution I have created to develop this control has two projects (one for the control and one for a test form to do the debuging)

Exchagning Parameters - Able To Start With Form1, Move To LoginForm, Then Back To Form1 Taking 2 Variables And The "values"

Apr 8, 2010

I need to be able to start with Form1, move to LoginForm, then back to Form1 taking 2 variables and the "values" they have in the LoginForm back to Form1 and using the variables. I start with the main form (Form1) and have the user enter some information. Once they click OK I have the LoginForm open. After they enter their credentials I will check to make sure they are legal users, then go back to Form1 (here is where I need to take the Username and Password with me) to log onto a server using the same credentails from the login form.

Publishing VB Projects - Files Required To Run The Executable

Feb 19, 2009

When a project is built in VB, the executable file is created in the \bin\Release folder. Apart from the executable there are other files that get created:

MyProject.application
MyProject.exe.manifest
MyProject.pdb
MyProject.xml

Are these files required to run the executable? Is having just the MyProject.exe file in the setup enough? And what are these files for?

Obviously i could do all the steps, but im stuck on the file merging part.

Pass Custom Types As Parameters?

Mar 23, 2012

I am calling a XML web service (standard web service project based on .NET 3.5) and trying to pass custom types as parameters. The custom types are defined in my consuming code and the web service references an assembly from the consuming code to get access to the types. The serialization is being handled by .NET.

<WebMethod()> _
Public Function MyMethod() As MyType
Dim myValue as new MyType
return myValue
End Function

In my consuming code I created a web reference to the service and the proxy classes were created. I gave the service the namespace "WebService". Next I try to make a call to the service and assign the result from the call to a variable, something like this:

Dim service As New WebService.ServiceNameSoapClient
Dim response As New MyType
response = service.MyMethod()

I get an error from the IDE saying that it cannot convert type mynamespace.WebService.MyType to mynamespace.Entities.MyType. It appears to me that although the types are similar they are being treated as different because of the different namespaces, which makes sense of course.

Edit: So from what I am reading I believe this is by design, that is the proxy types are simply different types and cannot be directly associated with the types in the consuming code.

Auto-generate Custom Number For Database In Asp.net Vb

Jan 27, 2012

I would like to generate a tracking number as primary key for my database.

There will be total 12 letters for each tracking id. Example: 2012010001-1

The "2012010001-1" is actually from combination YYYYMMxxxx-v where YYYY is the current year, MM is the current month, xxxx is the auto generate number(increment) and -v is the version where it can be -2 -3 but using the same YYYYMMxxxx.

For both YYYYMM is not a prob as i can get the value from Date.Today.Month/Date.Today.Year. But how am I going to ensure the xxxx is an auto increment but will be reset back to 0000 every new month.

For example:

2012010000-1 (Month January, so start from 0000)
2012010001-1
2012010002-1

Use A Button (A) To Launch A Prompt Where User Selects Directory Path To An Executable Program?

Aug 27, 2011

It's probably the most basic of things, but all I can find is how to launch a program, and not with the interactions I desire. Any tips as to the terms to use to search for answers, or links to topics regarding questions similar to mine, would be very appreciated. I have a wealth of info to read through, but I could use your knowledge to save myself time.Here is what I am trying to do:

Use a Button (A) to Launch a Prompt where User Selects Directory Path to an executable Program. The Selection is to be Persistent after the initial selection (saved in a settings file i assume?), and the Selected Path (or just "programname.exe") is to be Displayed in a Text Field (B). Launch Selected and Indicated Program via a Launch Button (C)

Asp.net - Convert SQL (Pseudocode) To Dymanic LINQ Query From List<Custom> Parameters?

Apr 5, 2012

GOAL: Bind nested ListViews to LINQ generated iQueryable of anonymous type. I want to use LINQ because you can use GroupBy and bind the nested ListView to the 'it' keyword.

SETUP: I have groups of sets of conditions. Each set of conditions is stored in the BillingCodes table. Each group of BillingCodes is stored in the BillingGroups table.

I have a custom object that stores the ID, Name, and NumCodes for each BillingGroup that the user has chosen.I have a collection of these objects called GroupsList that has a list of the groups that the user has chosen.

Problem 1: I can iterate through GroupsList and grab all the IDs. How do I translate the SQL 'WHERE ID IN(a string of comma delineated IDs)' for LINQ to SQL? Is that the best way to do that?

Problem 2: Once I have the list of BillingGroups I need to iterate through each group. For each group, I need to iterate through the BillingCodes. For each BillingCode I need to generate a WHERE clause that has all of the conditions in the BillingCode. I propose something like so:

for each BillingGroup in BillingGroups
for each BillingCode in BillingGroup.BillingCodes
where1 = "..."
next
next

Problem 3: Here's the part where I don't have a clue. I need to dynamically create a query in LINQ to SQL. Keep in mind that I don't know how many groups there'll be or how many codes are in each group.

There are 2 tables:

**transactions**
transaction_id
patient_id

Deployment :: Can An Executable Program Create An Executable File

May 17, 2012

I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.

So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time.How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?

Executable On Vista - Open The Executable It Goes To A "WindowsApplication1?

Jun 1, 2009

I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.
