Create A Executable File Which Did Not Require The User To Install?
Jun 20, 2011
how I can deploy my .NET applicationwithout the user having to install the program.i.e. In VB6, I could just create a executable file which did not require the user to install anything, they would simple run the program.
I have a project that i have created in Visual Studio express and SQL server express. i want to create an install file so that i can send to others to install. Currently it is requiring the user to install SQL server Express and 3.5 .net framework.what steps can i take to stop the user having to install these 2 so that it is a simple install for them.
I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.
So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time. How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?
I would like to install a readme.txt file in the same All Programs folder as my application using ClickOnce deployment. The Build Action property is set to "Content" and the Copy to Output Directory is set to "Copy always" for this file. In the Application Files dialog box, Publish Status=Include for the file. After running setup.exe, the app is installed properly in the Start/All Programs/MBCI folder, but the readme.txt file is not there. Is the file installed somewhere else?
I'm bulding a program that willl work with a database the database is made with mysql.I would like to know if there is a way to install the DB automatically with the application without requiring the user to create a mysql server...the db have more than 5 million records.
I do one project in visual basic 2010.In visual basic 6 project can be make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file using Package and deployment wizard. But in visual basic 2010 express edition does not have Package and deployment wizard.how to make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file in visual basic 2010 project?

For my user system, I require each user to have a unique id. The reading in and saving of the user data is all done, but now I'm focusing on adding new users. In my add user dialog, I have the information fields required to create a new user, one of which is the ID (which must be unique). For this I have created a function that I thought would always give a unique id but it does not. paste the code below:
Function getnextuserid() Dim id As String Dim unique As Boolean
I made a little program for Hobby-use, and I like it to be installed by an installer. There's an installer program (Windows Installer 3.1?) deliverd with Visual Studio 2008 but that does not do the job completely. I want a coupling to be made between a program and a the users startup directory. If Windows Installer 3.1 can do that after all, can somebody explain how? If not, is there a free or low cost, simple to use (no scripting) installer program what will do the job? At last: Is there a version of .NET Framework 3.5 that does not require downloading during the user's setup procedure?
Is there any way to use VB 2008 to create an app to work on a computer that does not require .NET 2.0+? If there is no way to install .NET on the target computer, is there any way to write the app in such a way that it works on the computer?
I'm just getting started with Visual Studio (2005), and my aim is to write a fairly simple application in Visual Basic that will need to store some data to disk. What I really want is to be able to send the application to the end users (xp, vista, win7) and have them just be able to use it without having down download all kinds of extras. For example I'm guessing that if I use an SQL database in my application they will need to download SQl server express or some other sql downloadable?
If so is there a similar downloadable for MS Access?I'm just in the 'seeing how things work' stage at the moment and I don't want to waste time going down the SQL track just to find it won't actually work unless my users all download SQL to their machines (which they won't want to do).
my settings work, they work great to be exact. But theres a problem, if the user renames the executable to something else, all the settings are lost. Are there anyways to prevent the settings from being lost after the user renames the executable? I'm using My.Settings?
I've been developing an application that is basically a GUI for several batch files. You click on a button, and the corresponding batch file will run. I got it working in debug using this code:
Private Sub btnOpenFS_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOpenFS.Click System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("openfs.bat") End Sub
As Google and Yahoo have provided barely anything, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to, or an example of how I can build a working executable during runtime in vb.net.It's for my custom school project.
Well I have a program, and I want to the program works alone at determinate time. I know that I have to create a "standalone executable" proyect or something like that. I really don't know how do this kind of things.
I'm trying to create a little executable that when launched opens an IE browser to various websites like news sites all in different tabs. for example, a tab for wsj, nytimes, etc. How do I access IE with vb.net? What reference do I need to add? I can't find any sample code that I can make work I think it is because I am missing a library in my assembly?
I would need samples/hints on how to progammatically generate executable files after taking custom parameters from the user.I have looked into codedom and I almost got it to work except for the little fact that my application launches the console too and it's meant to be a simple windows form.
I would create a launcher for a game that is located in \folder\executable.exe I tried using the command shell, but the game does not start because it needs all the files found in folder.
I want to create a patch system which patches the entire executable. So like: You download my patch and it changes the code of the existing executable instead of replacing it. the reason why: I got an application which is already around the ~15MB and it will grow bigger (Like 200~300MB) so, I want to keep it compact.I've already read that patching an executable for only a string is quite easy, but, I got my doubts about actual code and resources.
It's probably the most basic of things, but all I can find is how to launch a program, and not with the interactions I desire. Any tips as to the terms to use to search for answers, or links to topics regarding questions similar to mine, would be very appreciated. I have a wealth of info to read through, but I could use your knowledge to save myself time. Here is what I am trying to do:
Use a Button (A) to Launch a Prompt where User Selects Directory Path to an executable Program. The Selection is to be Persistent after the initial selection (saved in a settings file i assume?), and the Selected Path (or just "programname.exe") is to be Displayed in a Text Field (B). Launch Selected and Indicated Program via a Launch Button (C)
I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.
I've create a setup for my vb application with visual studio. At the end of the install I want to launch the application so i've add a custom action and used the chell to launch it. It's work but... the application is launch as SYSTEM user...is there a way to launch it in normal user (on win7 as administrator)?
As part of a program for class we were instructed to create a text file on the user's computer. The instructions were to create the file to the C: (or the same drive as the Windows directory) but Windows7 requires Admin privileges to write to this directory. It works great if I run Visual Studio as admin, but I'd rather just write to an unrestricted area. For example the desktop. Is there a way to write directly to the user's desktop without knowing the user's username. Right now I'm using this "c:UsersNickDesktopScores.txt"; which works but of course the user's name is different on every machine. How would I go about specifying the user's desktop?
My clickonce app has the following pre-requisites: Windows Installer 3.1 .NET Framework 3.5 Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Report Viewer Microsoft Visual Basic Power Packs 3.0 SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 (x86) The application has been successfully installed on more than 30 computers. All but 2 computers, have had installation problems.
For awhile, one of the two computers in question, would not resolve installation of SQL server 2005 Express edition. It would go through the motions of downloading the program and then attempting an install and after a good 30 minutes, an error would show up indicating that the installation had failed. The user continued to have a nuisance error pop up appear when he'd log into his computer.Long story short, I resolved that problem. So now all of the pre-requisites are installed and confirmed as successfully installed. The clickonce application does not install however. The following log file was created as a result of this error:
PLATFORM VERSION INFO Windows : 5.1.2600.131072 (Win32NT) Common Language Runtime : 2.0.50727.3053 System.Deployment.dll : 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) mscorwks.dll : 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000)
I want to create a small application in VB.Net which will zip the file such that when user will unzip this file, a url will be opened in user's default browser. Is there any way to create such files?
I have developed a VB6 applicationon a computer running Windows XP Professional SP3.I have used the VB6 Package & Deployment Wizard to create the install CAB and setup files. When installing the app on to a Windows XP Professional SP3 computer we have no problemHowever, when I try to install on a Windows XP Professional SP2 I get an error message statingSetup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system and then asks if you want to reboot to automatically update the system files.
