View 6 RepliesI would like to install a readme.txt file in the same All Programs folder as my application using ClickOnce deployment. The Build Action property is set to "Content" and the Copy to Output Directory is set to "Copy always" for this file. In the Application Files dialog box, Publish Status=Include for the file. After running setup.exe, the app is installed properly in the Start/All Programs/MBCI folder, but the readme.txt file is not there. Is the file installed somewhere else?
View 4 RepliesIs it possible to point the install of ClickOnce to a directory of my choice on the local computer instead of caching it in Documents and Settingsuser? some place like c:Program FilesFoo Apps for example? I like the ClickOnce stuff a lot and especially the update on run functionality, but would like it independent from the user...
Dev/Usr Environment info: I am using VB Express '08 and SQL Express '05 for my applications in a corporate networking environment and the users will be installing from a network share drive. I have tested this and it works fine, just the location seems to be undesirable.

We have an application (Vb6) that gets installed at all of our client sites and they often (Vista/Windows 7) run into a the error message Unexpected error, quiting after a install on a new machine. The problem comes about when the UAC is on and the application is trying to create registry entries in areas it doesnt have access to because the application is running as a standard user. If the user runs the application as an admin the first time, everything sets up and life if good.
My question is, what is the most elegant way to setup those registry keys without forcing the user to run as an admin the first time? We could force them to run the applicaiton as an admin using a manifest file, but I dont want them to have to run as an
admin every time, just the first time.
Need to install a font on all user's machines that will use the application I am writing which creates custom documents in Word. It's a barcode font.I've successfully added the font to my solution and set its build action to Embedded Resource and have also successfully written code to check if the font is already installed on the user's system.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to take a program I have and convert it to work in mutiple languages. When I put it in Spanish, I ended up hard coding it all, which makes the code much larger and required me to get all the phrases I want translated into spanish, which I'd rather avoid doing as I add languages.
From what I understand, VB.NET has the ability to translate text based on the local language of the machine I'm using (I think it's taken somewhere from this: Control PanelClock, Language, and RegionRegion and Language).
I have designed and published my small created app with WINDOWS FORMS using VB 2010 EXP on Windows 7. I can only install the app on the machine that I used to develop the app.I want to install the app on another computer but I cannot. I usually have error reports.
Example:Unable to install or run this application. This application requires Microsoft Common Language Runtime 4.0.3 to be installed on your computer.
what can I do to be able to install the app on a different computer which does not have .Net and does not have visual basic 2010 installed.
I need to get the path (not the executable) where my application is running from:System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory()

I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.
So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time. How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?
I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.
View 6 RepliesI have an application that has file extensions associated with it. The application has been deployed using ClickOnce. I have checked the associations table to confirm the entry is there and the association is to the 'ClickOnce Application Deployment Support Library'. When the application is triggered using a file with my extension, it does not pass the filename / directory in the CommandLine Arguments, instead you get the executable path of the application.
Which is under ..LocalSettingsApp"Random Strings"MyApp.exe
I have checked the Registry entry to confirm what the extension is set to open with and the application is dfshim.dll. Is there a way to overcome this, or is this just another limitation of ClickOnce deployment?

I am very new to VB.NET. That said, I have developed a windows form that utilizes an SQL Server back end. I am developing using Visual Studio 2008 and the 3.5 Framework. The SQL server is 2005.I do not have any warnings or errors, and the project compiles without error. When I run the install package on another computer, everything appears to install correctly, and the shortcut is placed on the desktop. However, when opened, the cursor goes into wait mode for a few seconds then returns to normal and the form does not open.I am using windows authentication for the SQL server, and the user of the other computer is the owner of the database I am developing for, so that person has access. I am using the following when making a connection to the SQL server: Dim cnnSQL As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(My.Settings.ConnectionString)
