String Manipulation - Caps To Only One Letter
Oct 6, 2010So I have a string "New". What is the simplest way to convert that string to "New". Basically right now I'm doing this:
Case "NEW"
makes = connector.GetMakesByYear(_AuthorizationKey, "NewCar", CDate(Now), Year)
Case "USED"
makes = connector.GetMakesByYear(_AuthorizationKey, "UsedCar", CDate(Now), Year)
And I would prefer not to use a case statement because it's only one parameter that needs to change, and both are appended with "Car".

I found what I was looking for. Here is what I Did.
I had one text box for the input and another for the output.

In this exercise, you code an application that displays a letter grade based on the average of three test scores. Open the Grade Solution (Grade Solution.sln) file, which is contained in the ClearlyVB Chapl8Grade Solution folder. Code the application,using a function to determine and return the letter grade. If the average is at least 90, the grade is A. If the average is at least 80 but less than 90, the grade is B.If the average is at least 70 but less than 80, the grade is C. I know how to use the string.IndexOfMethod() so I was thinking I could find the first letter, mark that position, and search again from there. Then I would keep looping until the end of the letter. But I'm not sure how to signal the end of the loop.

Jun 6, 2010im working on a small application that lets you input a phone number with "-" hyphens, and then copy that number to a label control minus the hyphens. So for instance 111-234-567 would become 111234567, i have accomplished this using the string.
replace command, however i was wandering if it would be possible to iterate through the string with a for next loop looking for the hyphens and then removing them with the string.
remove command, ive spent nearly 5 hrs trying to get the code to work, but to no avail, no errors are being thrown up, but the hyphens still display along with the number, i am currently teaching myself, and its a sloooooooow process. here is my unsucessful code

Word Template - Print The Document (Letter) With All The Merge Fields Filled
Jun 6, 2011I have a program in which I am trying to do the mail merge with the word template that I already have.
I have already setup the datasource for the word template in the word itself and it is pointing to my Employee Table which has all the information for the employee. I have also inserted the merge fields in the document where ever I need them. Now I want to print the document (Letter) with all the merge fields filled in from my application but for only employee whose Name or Number I sent from my program not all the employees I have in the datasource.
Now if I have to do it in Word, we have an option called Find Recipient in Mailings -> Preview Results in which I can set the Name or Number of the employee to get all his information to do the merge but how can I do the same thing from my program.
I can send all the fields values from my code like in the code below but I want to use my datasource to provide values. I have employee's Number I want to provide to the template to find the employee - so all the values are filled based on the employee's Number.

This is another text."It's read as " This is some text that I need to find and this is the text. This is another text." but there is no space between each word. I want to get the word "text" or any word in that string. Can you help me with this function with a code sample ?
And I think that this method can be implemented with a string of Unicode also because in a sentence of Unicode it contains one or few, sometimes zero spaces between each word.

Feb 11, 2011When I try to remove the last few characters of a string, I get an index out of range error. I am using the following to remove the characters from the end of the string:

Dec 19, 2008I am trying to do string manipulation of an OpenID in my codebehind. For example, if the user enters " url...I want to do the following:
1. Remove the http:// or https:// if it exists
2. Remove the "/" at the end of the OpenID if it exists
So that all would be returned is url...I have used the Right, Mid and Left functions before with a string that contained spaces but I'm not sure how to accomplish what I'm trying to do here.
