View 1 RepliesI have a problem with the style of the button in a messagebox.If I call the following line of code in a current project the button get one type of visual apperance/style. And If I create a new VB.NET Windows Application project it gets a standard Windows apperance/style.
Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show("Yaay", "Yaay!", Windows.Forms.MessageBoxButtons.OK)
See the difference between the buttons below.I suspect they inherit the visual apperance from it's parent or maybe from some project settings. But I have not been able to find out from where.Both projects are created in VB.NET 2.0, and both have same System.Windows.Forms - dll as reference (c:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.Windows.Forms.dll).
I have written a function that gets the alexa ranking of a given url, now this function works perfectly but I want to loop through a ListView of urls and grab the alexa rank of each item (url) with my function.The code works great if I put a MessageBox in the loop to test that the function is returning a value but when I remove the MessageBox the loop does not work.I need it to loop through adding each result without a MessageBox stop in each loop.
vb
For Each Item In ListView1.Items
Dim result As Integer
result = GetAlexaRank(Item.Text)

I am trying to make a style that only gets applied if the parent element of the element that the style refers to, has another specific style. Kind of like in CSS where you can do ".class1 .class2" to specify that the "class2" theme only applies if it is within an element with the class "class1". I do not wish to use any form of external DLLs or libraries for this task. I want to know if it's possible to implement on my own.
I've tried using MultiTriggers with no luck. I have a style that applies to all TextBlocks. I want the textblock to do the following: If the font-size of the textblock is 11 and the parent element's style is "PinnedSuggestion", set the foreground color to "#FF505050". If the font-size of the textblock is 11 and the parent element's style is "Suggestion", set the foreground color to "#FFCCCCCC". The conditions that I have tried to write to make this work, are as follows (the font-size condition is true, but the other one is not). The conditions are inside a style that applies to all textblocks in general.

I am currently having a headache on how to solve this problem that i am facing. here is the situation: I have a combobox and a list box on the main form. The combobox will get the data from the ms access database. In the database, i have the details of a person's IC, Name and DOB say for eg on one entry I have D215311523C,SHAWN,13/04/1987 So now, my combobox on form load will show the list of dates in the database to allow the user to search base on the date itself by clicking on the selected date. So when the user clicks on the particular date say 13/04/1987, people in the database whose birthday is 13/04/1987 will be shown on the listbox.Meaning to say if i have 3 entries whose dates are the same 13/04/1987, 3 entries will appear. If there is only two entry, then two results will be shown. But now, when i do a single click on the date, one result will be shown. That is correct. But the problem is when i click on the same date again, three of the same results will be shown on the list box. that is it will display : 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 which is not the case. Then it will show more duplicates of the same results if i click more times on the same date which should not be the case.

What i want is,there will be many rows in the grid,when typing the value in the third column the corresponding result will be displayedin the rowof theresult column,save button will be displayed while the form loads,when the calculate part is completed that is there should not any cell of the resut column empty then i should enable the save butto.
View 2 RepliesI am encountering the following issue So i have a device that sends stuff at the serial port, i then parse it and put it into an array of bytes like that:
Dim HCI_Command_Rcvd_Byte() As Byte All good till here What i wanna do is make an array and put this result every time the serial port gives me a new result, for example:
[Code]...
Basically what i wanna do is let the port parse the messages, fill in the array with the result at an empty spot in this array and then i will have a separate thread that will look in into this array in each non empty space and after it looks into the non empty space it will use or discard the info and also mark this space as empty (after it checked)
I am creating an application and am very new to VB. I have 4 buttons on my form which is like my applications main menu. I would like that each of the buttons behaves in the following way when there is a mouse rollover: The Button back color is changed from the default to Red The Button text is changed to Blue, Bold, and increases in font size I would also like all the buttons to go back to their initial state when the mouse leaves.
Another thing, instead of me writing code for each of the buttons event handlers (Mouse Hovers, and Mouse Leaves) is there a way I can write this code once, maybe as a function and then always call it for any button that I create from here on so that any new buttons take on this behaviour.
I just read about DataSet in VB.NET, it uses disconnected concept. My question is: if my apps has "List All" button that query data from 1 table in the database, and that table has "very very very" many rows, so my DataSet will be filled with those data and eat up memory. Can I limit the data that being put to the DataSet from that query? But I want to be able to retrieve the next data from the same query if the user want to see it?
For example:
I have 1000 rows in my database, and i query all of them. But I just want 200 rows being inserted to my DataSet, but if the user want to see rows number 201 and so on, I want to be able to retrieve the next 200 rows, and so on. So it just like cutting those data into a group of 200 rows. Can I do this with the concept of "disconnected" of the DataSet?
how to get the current Style of the Windows Xp programmatically. At the program startup I need to get if Windows is running in XP Style or in Windows Classic Style, so I will set my buttons Flatstyle property to flat or standard.
View 6 RepliesI have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.
this is the vb.net code:
Dim encryptAES As New AesCryptoServiceProvider()
Dim encoding As New UTF8Encoding()
Dim encryptor As ICryptoTransform
encryptAES.Key = encoding.GetBytes("12345678901234567890123456789032")
encryptAES.IV = encoding.GetBytes("1234567890123416")

I am amateur programmer.so far, I can use Visual Basic .Net only. That is all I know!!How can I refer to a MessageBox?or how can I Programatically handle a MessageBox after it is displayed?I need to close a MessageBox after certain time if no response from the user.
View 3 RepliesI'm using MessageBox to give some information to the user, but when such a box pops up, I want it to block access to the main window. So, until the user has clicked "OK", they should not be able to click (or even focus on) the window that's below it.
Does anybody know how to do this? I've noticed that MessageBox has very few functions, so maybe I'll even have to use a different object for this.
I have this
Dim st1 As String = sref.ConfirmLogin() 'A WCF method call.
Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(st1 & Environment.NewLine & "blue", "Result")
What is interesting about this is that there is no new line in the messagebox, and "blue" doesn't show up. If I reverse the order, then all is well. If I turn st1 into some other random string, all is well. However, as long as st1 is a string that comes from the WCF call, everything after st1 in the MessageBox is ignored.So what is coming from the WCF call?
The lines are these:
resp.GetResponseStream.Read(buff, 0, 99)
Return Encoding.ASCII.GetString(buff)
resp is a WebResponse object, though that shouldn't matter, as the key is that I take a stream, move it to a buffer, then turn that buffer into a string. What is it about the string that is alterning the way the string is displayed.If I highlight the "st1 & "Blue"" part, and press Shift+F9, it is all there. What I do notice is that there is a significant space beyond the end of st1 and before the Blue. Trim doesn't get rid of this space. My theory is that what is there is a series of Null bytes, and MessageBox is interpreting that as the end of the string and terminating the display at that point, even though it shouldn't really be terminated there. That's especially interesting because I can add in an Environment.NewLine, which would normally add a new line, but even that gets ignored.
I have a Main and a Secondary form. I want that the secondary form appear if the no button in the messagebox is pressed (but the main main don't). Only if I press the yes button or when closing the secondary form the Main must appear. How can I do that?

View 7 RepliesI want to add a yes/no function to a message box (Are you sure you want to exit?) in InfoPath 2007. If the user clicks 'Yes' the InfoPath form closes, if no, then the user is taken back to the form. From what I have read this will not happen in InfoPath. So, I added a new windows form that has the Yes/No buttons.
For the 'No' button, I have (me.close) which closes the windows form and the user is left with the InfoPath form. when the user clicks 'Yes' meaning they want to close the windows form AND the InfoPath form. Below is my code so far.
Imports Microsoft.Office.InfoPath
Imports System
Imports System.Xml
Imports System.Xml.XPath

I have a strange problem here. In my code, variable b string, has the value "Test Test Test". This value we can see while debugging the variable as well as in the text visualizer.Now the problem is, if I show the same string using Messagebox, the value is just "Test". What can I do here to get the complete value.
I am converting from an ebcdic encoded bytes to corresponding utf8 string and doing the above operation. Any thoughts. below is my sample code.

i have vb 2005 and i dont know how to make Ctrl+S work so that it throws a messagebox on the screen.ive tried a couple of different threads, looking for my answer and i cant seem to find it. its just a simple application, but i want to spice it up a bit with a shortcut to save the info on the screen.i dont want to deal with the saving part yet, but just to get vb to recognize that the user pressed the Ctrl key and the s key in combination.
View 5 RepliesI am just doing a bit of error handling. I am just check to make sure that a user has selected an option within a combo box (named cbtitle1) and if option has not been selected throw an error message to tell the user.this if statement is within a save button which once a user click save this error checking runs first then if combo box has an option selected the save goes ahead else it throws an error.I can stop the save function OK but I wanted to put a error icon in with the message box but I get an error when I add it.[code]
