View 8 RepliesHow would i know when a thread is completed running it's task? I mean in background worker it has a completed event, but can i make something similar to that?
View 7 RepliesIn one application, I need use 4 simultaneous threads.When the threads finished, I need to update the text of a TextBox.So, I create 4 Textbox, and I wanna the threads change the text to FINISHED.Each thread change one distinct TB.I use this "example"
Dim Terminados As Integer = 0
Private Sub frmEnviarMensagem_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Timer1.Enabled = True
Timer1.Start()
[code]....
The problem is, I have an error in the red lines.The error is: INVALIDOPERATIONEXCEPTION "Cross-Thread operation not valid: Control tbPlaca1 Accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on."I don't use cross threading. Each TB only was accessed for the correspondent thread, and for the "main program".
I have done a program using vb2005 to display reading from my microcontroller bs2 board but have encountered some problems. My code are as follows.
Dim Stop_Rx As Boolean
Private Sub btnRead_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRead.Click
SerialPort1.Open()
[code]....
I've encounter an error which is, (Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'txt1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.)
When my client try to connect to server I'm getting this error : Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'l_users' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
Private Sub _socketManager_onConnectionAccept(ByVal SocketID As String) Handles _socketManager.onConnectionAccept
l_Users.Items.Add(SocketID)
End Sub
I need some help to understand my options to get this working. I try to update a textbox control by a property-changed event from a class variable. I've digged around for a day and have a vague understanding that this can be solved in three ways:
1. Using some "if InvokeRequired", "Invoke" code in the handler method
2. By programming a special delegate class for this variable
3. By using a databinding directly linking the control (textbox) to the class event
Now.. Are these options correct? And would it be possible to get some help to show these three solutions in actual code (relevant to mine)? I can't seem to manage to sort all the information to a working code. Also, what are the pros and cons of the different solutions?
As my code stands now, it's obviously none of the above, as it gives a cross-thread error, as indicated.

I am trying to call the DocumentCompleted event from a button click but am having problems.Here is my Document Completed event:
Private Sub WebBrowser1_DocumentCompleted(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs)
TextBox2.Text = WebBrowser1.Url.ToString()

I am trying to display the progress bar(marque) in a separate form (progressForm) while i do some calculation in background. I know the typical way of doing it is to include the calculation in background worker and show progressForm in main thread. This approach how ever will lead to lot of synch issues in my application hence I am showing the progressForm using progressForm.ShowDialog() inside the background worker process. But I need to trigger the Completed event with in the application to close the form.
View 1 RepliesI have a program nearly completed that visits a web page, clicks a button, and goes on. My only problem is, I cannot find out to add the document completed event in a loop. Basically, it visits a web page, was the document completes loading, it clicks a button, but I can't find how to make it loop.
View 6 Repliesif i webbrowser1.navigate "[URL]" when this page was loaded then automatically navigate to [URL] i try webbrowser document completed event but still not working
View 4 Repliesurl..I tried to change the combo box value and save the webpage data in string and finally extract my desired data. It works but unfortunately when the combo box value is changed it takes some times for webpage to update.
View 1 RepliesOk i have a Form with the following

I have a window application develpoed in vs 2008, framework 3.5, in which i have put a button.. Now where i click that button the other text boxes are filled up with the data from database thru web service.. what i want is while all text boxes are being filled i want to show an animated loading gif image till data loading is completed in all the text boxes.. i have tried to use image picture box but while data is loading gif image is displyes but in static mode.. cant see animation... i think this is because data loading and animation both are done thru one UI thread..
View 8 RepliesI have installed vb.net 2010 express , but when I run It I get : "Error , the operation could not be completed".And I cannot do nothing with visual studio 2010.
View 1 Repliescould someone tell me how to fire an event in main thread from another thread as well as fire and forget without use a new thread?
View 9 RepliesI made an icon for my program and tried to implement it.Funniest thing though, I get a message with the error icon saying the operation completed successfully.But the icon doesn't change, nor is it my icon drop down box when I click the arrow. Ergo, it didn't complete successfully....I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and have read some about this error but I don't see any fixes I can do, aside from what I've tried already.
View 1 RepliesI am running on the VB8 and expirienced an error during debugging after some changes in "My project" area. I have noticed (on two different machine) that after change for example Startup Form or Security Area, I am not able to debug program any longer. An error appears, telling me that:
The Operation Could not be completed.
After clicking OK (nothing else is available) and next try of debugging, another error message appear:
Visual Studio could not copy a support file to this location: "path". Please verify the path exists and is writeable. After that, I have to close Visual Basic and restart it. Than everything works fine...till next change of "My project"
when i double click my dbml file at the solution explorer, I get this error: the operation could not be completed. unspecified error I'm working on a VB.Net project, using visual studio 2008, mssql 2008.
View 7 RepliesI am in a trouble with this error:"An attempt has been made to free an RCW that is in use. The RCW is in use on the active thread or another thread. Attempting to free an in-use RCW can cause corruption or data loss." I am not sure if the RCW-error is related to my problem but I was having this error last January 25. It appears when I am ending my application. I ignored it. The next morning when I resumed coding for my application, the changes I am making does not appear at run-time anymore. Whatever GUI changes I make in my application (at design time), it does not make any effect any longer when I am running the application. What is causing this? I am so afraid if I have to restart my application from the scratch. I have gone far.
View 1 RepliesI have am using a Twitter streaming class library, and would like to update a listbox when a new tweet is posted. I have it all set up to the point where a message box will show when a tweet comes in, but when I try to insert this tweet into a listbox I get this error: The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it. I don't know what I need to do in order to insert this tweet.
View 4 RepliesI know that there is usually a DoDragDrop method that starts a drag and drop operation. And that there are events (such as DragEnter, DragOver, DragDrop, DragLeave) that can be handled on the target side.
Are there any events on the source of the dragdrop that will tell me whether the dragdrop operation was completed, or possibly cancelled?
Time ago, I migrated to windows 7, and to get my old code running, I was forced to run Visual studio as administrator.Now I want to recode, so Visual Studio, and the program do not need to run as administrator.The first problem I get is that Visual Studio 2008 does not save the modified files without administrator rights.
Each time I try to save a file (or even run the code, which saves the files before running), I get the error message "The operation could not be completed".
it seems that I don't have rights to overwrite those files.Also, when my code crash (because I don't have administrator rights), I cannot debug. I am asked to open another instance of visual studio, but it refuses to debug, because the code is already opened.
I am using Visual Studio 2008. While opening some of the .resx file, it is giving me error that "The operation cannot be completed. Invalid Pointer". What can be the possible problem and solution?
View 1 RepliesI tried raise an event from another thread, but various error about classes and so on. I try to avoid classes.

I used threads because I wanted to test and play with them. Threads worked I think, but now I wonder what is wrong with events?
SerialPort1.DataReceived seems to suit better here, but why don't my events work?
Here is skeleton of my code

I have an SBS 2003 server with a mapped drive. I open a VB program from the *.sln file. I can immediately hit F5 to run it. Then if I edit properties to a control (in this case the Crystal Viewer control or a text box), I cannot run the program again. It gives me the error above. It did not happen with VS 2008 with other projects but this project was started from scratch in VB 2010 (I don't currently have any others in VB2010 to test). The build does succeed. After I get the error message, I try F5 (or F8) again and it does nothing, no errors, nothing. I can then exit the program, go back in and then run without problems, until I do some editing on the controls again. Small edits to just code do not seem to be a problem. Not sure if this was the correct forum for this question, but hopefully someone has seen this before and knows a solution.
View 9 RepliesI am having a problem that I keep getting the following error when I try to run my program.I am trying to make a circle the size of the value of FrameSize.A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll
This is the details of the error:

I'd like to create a WebBrowser for the purpose of taking a screenshot of a website. Once its finished it will update a thumbnail image in a ListView. I'd like the whole operation to be done in the background so the UI remains responsive.I toyed with Creating the WebBrowser in a new thread and calling Navigate. I can use a loop to watch for the ReadyState of the webbrowser before I do the screencapture. However it will only continue with the thread if I use Application.DoEvents in that loop. I've never been a huge fan of doing this and would prefer to watch for an event instead. However if I add a handles clause to the WebBrowser it doesn't fire (I tried creating the WebBrowser in the thread, and also tried by declaring it as shared within the class scope).
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with some programs that when code is altered then run I get "The operation could not be completed" message and have to restart Visual Studio to allow me to run it
View 1 RepliesI have a small form that notifies the user on the completion of events (such as SMO restore). I want this form to appear from various sources (such as the below SMO Restore complete event) so I guess I need to create a new thread before creating the form? As it could be called from outside the UI thread. (I also need to pass a string to this form)

At the moment, I am writing a class that deals with starting an application in a thread, as well as being able to monitor the closure of the thread and process, and the creation of the thread and process through events. I have absoloutly no problems with monitering the creation of the thread and its internal process within the subs that create them. I placed notifications within the "myprocess_Exited",(for the process closure) and "myprocess_Disposed"(for the thread closure) events.
The problem comes when I terminate the outside application manually; these events do not appear to fire when the application is closed by the user, rather than by code.I thought, since the application closes with an error code when it is terminated in such a way, that it raises the "myprocess_ErrorDataRecieved" event. But this doesn't appear to happen either. Here is some of the code from that class:
'Some of the decleratoins
Event ProcessStarted(ByVal Process As Process)
Event ThreadStarted(ByVal Thread As System.Threading.Thread)
