Jul 30, 2009I can define a NEW sub that runs when an object is instantiated. What is the correct sub to call when it is disposed? I would think a method named dispose, but I seem to remember somewhere that there is a better choice than dispose.
Why do I care? I want to be able to track when a given object is released.
With a form, I can use formClosing, but what about a simple class definition?
how I would know what to search for to have found it without bugging any of you? everything I tried resulted in way too many hits that had nothing to do with VB or what I wanted to achieve.

My question is how would I code a click event for an object that isn't on the forum initially? Also, how can I keep track of which object is assigned to which data in an array? May 7, 2012I am making a webcam capture program in vb.net to scan qr codes. I found some examples that show tracking a certain color, but that wont work because the qr codes have different colors. some are red, blue, purple, black, and green. I am using the touchless sdk to capture the video. How would I go about tracking the person's hand holding a 1"x1" cube? I am trying to reduce the "background noise" that the scanner has to try to read through.

User.
In my Domain object, I have an Entries property and an Add() method.

For your information, I implemented the INotifyPropertyChanged interface to ease my life, but I don't seem to find a way to make it work the way I want. Perhaps am I not doing things right somehow, as for the location of different methods, I don't know. How can I make my Domain aware of a change that occured within one of its Entries, so that the TKey value is also changed? That is wanted because one could possibly add an entry, change its name meanwhile adding a new entry with the "old" name of the actual within entry, and cause a conflict, etc. In the end, causing the test to fail. But I'd like to make it pass like it actually is. Is there another better approach or workaround?
Taking Pictures With Webcam Via Webcam Button?
Mar 28, 2012I have a logitech webcam that I use to take pictures of customers to submit to a server/database. Utilizing AVICAP32.DLL calls, I was able to modify my VB.NET program to take these pictures via a button in my program.
My question is, it would me more convenient to my intended users to click the webcam button, instead of clicking on the button in my program.
Is this possible to do in VB.NET? and how can I do this?
If this is not possible to do with my logitech webcam than is there a Microsoft Webcam that can do this?
How To Track A Certain Keypress
Mar 24, 2012Before anyone tries to close this thread thinking this is for malicous purposes, let me tell you that it's not. What i'm working on is an application to save screenshots to files as soon as the 'Print Screen' key is pressed, as Jpegs or what ever. What i want to do is be able to minimize the application and I still want the application pick up on any 'Print Screen' presses, and save the screenshots. I've tried using the KeyPress event, but I soon realized that it only worked when the application had focus. I plan on using it to save screenshots every time I press 'Print Screen'

Jul 10, 2010I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:
newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class
flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class

Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? I am writing an application to save videos from a webcam, and I've found several examples that provide the basic functionality, so that I can now start and stop the webcam, and save a video as a .avi file. However my interface is still clunky: when video capture starts following
SendMessage(hWnd, WM_CAP_SEQUENCE, 0, 0)
then the window is locked and the [Stop Capture] button doesn't function, so I need to exit the window to stop capture.The documentation at Video Capture [URL] has a lot of methods that look useful, and I think that I need to link up a callback function to allow [Stop Capture] to function, but I can't figure out from this documentation how to send a WM_CAP_SET_CALLBACK_VIDEOSTREAM message to do this. I don't know how to control the formats so that I generate video files that are concise enough for web use - changing the frame rate or dimensions seems to have absolutely no effect Is there any general tutorial that will cover all of the messages in AVICAP32.dll, and show me how to implement them in VB?

I tried going through several threads, but couldn't find the solution I was looking for. Most of the threads involved matters (and code) too complex for my requirements, or had bugs when I reproduced the code in my editor window which I was unable to resolve due to my lack of knowledge in I/O related programming.
So far the simplest solution I could find was this one:[URl]...but after using his solution in my editor, it says 'type WIA is not defined', despite adding a reference to Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition 1.01 Type Library.
