View 5 RepliesI created a program that has serval labels on a form and a listview object. It has a button that when clicked reads a textfile and loads up values in the listview object. I then can click and drag text from the listview box to any label on the form and then the program removes the value from the listview box. Now, my question is how can I instruct VB to save these values in the text property of the labels so that the next time the program is loaded the labels will contain the values loaded during the last run time session?
View 1 RepliesI have some labels in my MDI parent form that I tired to make the background transparent but if I move the label on top of a form in run time, then the background is gray like that background of the MDI parent.
View 2 RepliesI am using VS2008 to create a WM6.0 application using .NET CF 3.5, and have put a custom background on the form using the following code:

I'm using a rectangle shape with gradient fill, i wanted to write some text on it using a label and set the labels backcolor to transparent, but does not work.
Anyone know if a workaround is possible?
I'm pretty much out of ideas here... for everything else, setting the background color to Color.Transparent or setting the TransparencyKey works fine...
I have an mp4 Video which I need to play as a "background" of my form. To do this, I'm currently using the WMP control. My problem: I can't add any controls on top of it, since they always render a background. Which looks ** on the video...
With VB6 you can set the WMode property to "transparent" which then only shows the animation you want to see, but with the Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic) when I make the same property (WMode) to transparent it doesn't give the transparent effect only a block with the animation. Is this a Visual Studio 2005 ...problem...or do I need to set some other properties..?
View 2 RepliesThere is no BackStyle property in Visual Basic 2005 ... But I read in MSDN that changing the BackColor of label control will make the background of label control Transparent ... So we'll be able to see through the label control ... I changed the BackColor property to Transparent but it didn't work for me ... BackColor changed to Transparent ... But still I ain't able to see the image behind the label control ... (PictureBox) ... Background color of label still remained the background color of Form i.e. Control color ...

View 4 RepliesI know how to add images to Form Controls by using the Property Window.However I am trying to use Icons on the form to indicate error.Example: If this condition is true, display this image, else display that image.
I could do this using multiple labels on top of each other but wondering if there is an easier way.
In the game, I'm using labels and the backcolor property to change their living status. I have an array of the labels. However, when changing their life status using a for loop, i've come across a problem where previous elements in the array effect the next ones before the end of the generation. I found somewhere that recommende I use a different array, However, im not too sure how.

Boxes(x).Neighbours = GetNeighbours(x)
If Boxes(x).Neighbours = 0 Or Boxes(x).Neighbours = 1 Then
Boxes(x).Alive = False

I'm having a problem with making the Picturebox Transparent to the a Image layered underneath I'm getting tranparent to the form background color. Is there a Visual Basic Code Solution to achieve these properties? I used the imagebox in Visual Basic 6 and had no problem with this.
View 2 RepliesI am writing an app to be a single button failover of a set of mirrored SQL servers. The app has to handle several other functions (enable/disable and start/stop of services, writing to local registry, copying files from server A to server B, initiating stored procedures, etc.)I have a collection of labels that indicate the status of 4 services on 2 servers, I wrote a function to check the services when passed the machine name, and the service name. Originally I just called the function 8 times (4 services, 2 machines) and populated the labels 'manually'. I have all of this within a timer so that the service status is refreshed every couple seconds. Id like to clean up the code to a single for/next loop that operates on 2 arrays (an array of service names, and an array of labels) such as:
'**Fetch_Status is the function that gets service status, it accepts 2 strings, machine name
'**and service name and returns status "running", "Stopped", as my_status
Dim Services() As String = {"Service1", "Service2", "Service3", etc.}
[code]....
The only reason I want the control array is to be able to use the .Text and .BackColor properties of the labels in the loop. If I make an array of strings with the label names it doesnt seem to pick that up.
I'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:
Public Class NFPA
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Close()
End Sub
[code]....
[code] how to make the part that drops down semi-transparent or completely transparent resembling floating text. So that I can see the form underneath.

View 9 RepliesWell im currently developing an application for public use, I have a login screen in which the user enter's their registered credential's and the progressbar loads by increments of 3, now i placed 6 labels ontop of eachother and where the progressbar coding is i put:
If Progressbar.Value >= 1 Then
Label3.Show()
If Progressbar.Value >= 20 Then
Label3.Hide()
Label4.show()
And so on up until Label8 Show at 100%,
Now the problem is... As i have placed the labels ontop of eachother i need them hidden until they are called to show, i have tried adding a background worker to do this but have had no luck, all i see is the labels overlapping eachother when i run my application when i want them hidden untill Label3.Show() is called, and then to display them as they are called and hide them when another one is called to show...
With VB, but I've got the few basics down, file naming, adding objects, naming objetcs, etc. But the reason I'm on here is because I cannot complete even the first step. Our form is 640 X 480, and we need to have two labels, both have vertical scrolls. I know how to add and resize the labels to meet my needs, but I do not know how to create scrolling labels. Or are they text boxes? On our bubble chart (Do you know what that means?) it says lblInformation. We are going to have clickable radio buttons which will update the lblInformation with info about each of the radio buttons.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to make a program that allows the user to click on labels which have a number in it and then that value has to be stored into a different label.
For example the user click on label1 and the values goes into label12, then it click on label3 and the values goes to label13 and so on.
At the moment I can only code on the respective label underneath (1->12,2->13...) but it has to be in any order (5->12,7->13...)
Here a picture and below my code:

I'm having some very weird issues with interfaces right now.
I have a very simple setup. In one of my class, I have a Property implementing a Property from an Interface.
In my class it's like:
Private _oForm As IForm
Public Property Form As IForm Implements IContainer.Form
Set(value As IForm)
[Code]...
I have like dozens of interfaces like this working throughout my project and I can't believe this simple one can't work!
I'm trying to draw a semi-transparent layer over my entire form when certain events occur, with a prompt in front of this semi-transparent layer (similar to the effect in Windows Vista/7 with UAC enabled)At first I was trying to use a custom semi-transparent panel, but this didn't seem to work at all. As such I'm now trying to use a child form within the form using the opacity property on the form. However, when this semi-transparent form is added to the controls of the main form and displayed, it loses it's transparency.I've got a hacky work around at the moment where the semi-transparent layer isn't actually a component within the main form, and the transparency works then, but obviously this isn't ideal and could potentially cause various issues further down the line.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way for implementers of an interface where a ReadOnly property is defined to make it a complete Read/Write Property ?
Imagine I define an interface to provide a ReadOnly Property (i.e., just a getter for a given value) :
Interface SomeInterface
'the interface only say that implementers must provide a value for reading
ReadOnly Property PublicProperty As String
End Interface
This means implementers must commit to providing a value. But I would like a given implementer to also allow setting that value. In my head, this would mean providing the Property's setter as part of the implementation, doing something like this :
Public Property PublicProperty As String Implements SomeInterface.PublicProperty
Get
Return _myProperty
[code]....
I searched on the forum / Internet for the solution how a PropetryInfo object (of a Public property) can reveal if it has a Private Protected Setter ... it was all in vain .... all help I found was about how to "Set" value of a public property having a Private Setter.I would like to know if I have a PropertyInfo object of a public property, how would I know if its Setter is Non Public?
I tried, in a exception handling block, where I did a GetValue of the PropertyInfo object and then called SetValue by setting the same value back... but to my surprise it worked well and didn error out.

I'm having a few problems converting some code into VB.NET from C#. Most of the translating is done, but I am getting errors when I try to run my code, and I can't figure out what is causing them. Here is the Sub I translated.
Public Sub CreateWidget()
Dim blue As LCDColor
blue.Red = 0
blue.Green = 0
[code]....
The error I receive on this line ("vision.Widgets.CreateWidget(wg1)") reads "In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user."
start with I was given a program by a friend that was created in Excel 2003 with the help of Visual Basic Editor. He said he used Visual Basic 2003, which he is not 100% sure about. Anyways he used CurLine in the program and when I try to open it in Excel 2007 and then open the Visual Basic Editor and run the program I get the following error:Run-time error '-2147418113 (8000ffff)':Could not get the CurLine property. Unexpected call to method or property access.
View 2 RepliesI have a very simple class that holds a few public properties - ID, Text, Colour, etc. and a Boolean called 'SelectedItem'. Just like the Checked property on RadioButtons, only one item can have its SelectedItem property set to True within a particular group. Note: there will be several separate groups (lists), each allowed to have only one item with SelectedItem = True.
My first thought was that I would probably just have to handle everything outside of the class, setting SelectedItem to False for every other item in a particular list when another item was selected. But that seems rather inelegant to me. So I've been trying to think of how this might be done within the class. For example: could I perhaps have a private string property called say "GroupName" - set in the New sub when adding a new instance of the class - and then use a private shared method to set every item's SelectedItem property to False, provided the item has the same GroupName as the newly selected item? I would have a go at doing this but I have no idea how to enumerate every instance of a class from within that class, or whether that's even possible. Is it? Or is there another (better) way to achieve my goal? Here is a cut-down version of what I've got so far:
Public Class ResourceItem
Public ID As Integer
Public Text As String[code]....
As can be seen: instead of instantiating a new ResourceItem and passing that as an argument to the manager's Add procedure, I'm simply passing the details of the new item and the procedure is creating the item from those. I don't know whether this is a good or bad idea - please advise - but I've done it because I couldn't figure out how to make the SelectedItem property only writeable by the manager, so I wanted to avoid having directly accessible objects that could have their SelectedItem property set to True without it deselecting all the other items in the same group. Of course that still leaves the possibility of setting a variable to one of the manager's list items and setting it from there, so I would still like to know how I could prevent that, if possible.
UPDATE: I didn't use the code above in the end, deciding instead to go with Cyborgx37's solution - which seems to work perfectly well for me despite the warnings about best practice. I also realised I would need to use the same class in another scenario where multiple items could be selected, so it was easy to add a Boolean property to the manager to enable that.
Using the following code I get Identifier expected and Property access must assign property or use its value errors:
ViewState["SomeKeyValue"]
What is wrong with this code?
I have a dataview an i would like to show the count property in a text box.
i tryied the following
me.textbox1.DataBindings.add(new DataBindind("Text",DataView,"Count"))
But i have a exception.
I have a listbox binded to a list of objects. For each list item I wanted to have a rectangle whose fill color is determined by a few properties of the binded object. So I did the following:
Made sure INotifyPropertyChanged was implemented on my object.Created a class to expose the properties I am interested in as attached properties.Binded the properties of the object to the attached properties of the rectangle Created a style that uses triggers to set the rectangle fill based on attached properties.
This works, but only the first time the property of the object changes. After that, the attached properties do not seem to be receiving notification when the data object's property changes. I have double checked and my data object is raising the INotifyPropertyChanged event.
<Rectangle Style="{StaticResource RecordStateRectangleStyle}"
Width="10" Height="10" Stroke="Black"
local:RecordAttachment.RecordState="{Binding Path=RecordState}"
local:RecordAttachment.IsDeleted="{Binding Path=IsDeleted}" />
[code]....
I have a weird question and I honestly hope you understand what is happening here: I design my form (using VB.NET) and put on it a few textboxes, comboboxes and a listview. After the design, I want to adjust the TabIndexes for each control on the form. On the right-hand side of the interface is the property box.
I then select the 'TabIndex' property item and enter a number key (for instance 0) for that selected item. I then select the next textbox control and enter the next number (for instance 1) WITHOUT re-selecting the 'TabIndex' property item. As soon as I select the combobox or listview control, the currently selected property item jumps to 'Items' or 'Collections' and does NOT remain on the 'TabIndex' property item. Why is this happening? Everything worked fine and all of a sudden this starts happening. Should I reset the editor settings or how can I resolve this matter?
