Mar 27, 2010
I'm having a problem with making the Picturebox Transparent to the a Image layered underneath I'm getting tranparent to the form background color. Is there a Visual Basic Code Solution to achieve these properties? I used the imagebox in Visual Basic 6 and had no problem with this.

I am working in VB.NET defining my own classes. I have 5 classes, Policy, Coverage, CoverageCollection, Layer, and LayerCollection. Policy has a bunch of data items, one of which is of type CoverageCollection. Coverage has a bunch of data items, one of which is of type LayerCollection.
Policy
private id as Long
private name as String[code].....
Then I do like "dim p as Policy". So, iIn order to get to properties on a Layer, I reference it like p.cov(0).lyr(0).face. What I am trying to do is add a readonly property to Layer that is calculated using some Layer information but also using something from Coverage (or even Policy). I can take this in as a parameter to the property, but I think there should be a way to get at Coverage/Policy information since I am "under" it already. Is there a way to do this?

I am generally following this tutorial, the main differences being I'm using 2008 R2 Express and Windows Forms, he is using 2005 & ASP.NET Web Site:'m building a minimalist Windows Form project for learning purposes. So I'm using a 1-table database with 2 columns, ContactID & Name. I added a dataset file, 'ContactsDataSet.xsd' to my project and added a single minimalist table adapter with just a fill() & getdata() method.Then I added a DataGridView control and connected it to the ContactsDataSet to confirm it was working and that worked fine. I ran it and it filled up with data as expected. Everything up to this point was auto-generated code.

The following C# code works just fine and the test passes as expected.
using NUnit.Framework;
using Rhino.Mocks;
namespace RhinoMocksTesting
{
public interface ITesting
[Code]...
The Expect.Call line produces the following build error: "Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Expect' accepts this number of arguments." What is the proper way to use Expect.Call with a mocked property in VB.NET? I've seen a couple posts that say Rhino Mocks works better in VB10, but I'm stuck with Visual Studio 2008 for this current project.

I'm trying to make an image in a picturebox transparent, so that i can see and click the controls behind it in the transparent area. This reason for this is that i'm trying to make a hexagonal grid that needs each cell to work independantly of each other when clicked, and needs to include a changing image. I'm trying to do this with pictureboxes, but even though i've made the GIF images i'm using transparent in photoshop, They aren't displayed as such in design view or at runtime, as the corners stay grey. I'm making a clone of the Quiz-show Blockbusters

I started off with a VERY simple form and added a picturebox item to it. The code I was following used a procedure in the Form1.vb to override the transparent color of the image:
bmp.MakeTransparent(Color.Fuchsia)
bmp was defined in the Form's "Load" section.
Now things are different. I have more than 20 picturebox items now, each created in the Form1.Designer.vb code as follows:
Me.Tile020.Image = CType(resources.GetObject("Tile020.Image"), System.Drawing.Image)
Me.Tile020.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(922, 297)
Me.Tile020.Name = "Tile020"
Me.Tile020.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(64, 64)
Me.Tile020.TabIndex = 3
Me.Tile020.TabStop = False
The image is referenced from the resources. When I run the program, I'd like all these images to have their backgrounds transparent. None of these controls is currently referenced anywhere in the code at present. What's the best way to get them to display transparently, other than recreating them as transparent .PNG's?

I'm having problems making an image properly "transparent"
Dim x As Integer
Dim y As Integer
Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Click
[Code] .....
The initial image is Transparent, however, once you create another image very close to it, there is a "box" around it. That "box" is what I am trying to get rid of. I have no clue on how to get rid of it. Yes, I have made the image itself, transparent, as the initial image is transparent. Just any image that makes contact with the other images show the "box".

Any way to remove this problem I have in VB2010. I've done a picture box, where you can draw lines by clicking with your mouse. There is a label running along with the mouse pointer, but every time the cursor moves over the line, the label removes the line under it. I've tried setting transparent background to the label.

Okay, I'm making a fresh start and re-exploring my options. I'm trying to put a layer of transparency over a program that will act as a drawing layer. The cursor should be able to sniff to see whether it's sitting on transparency, or a drawn object. Transparency it will click through, while clicking on a drawn object will enable the user to edit said drawn object.
I've been trying to do this using a user control I made from scratch, but this is starting to look more and more like a dead end the deeper I get into it. Currently the layer of transparency works, along with the cursor sniffing, but the user control refuses to be brought to the front.
Any ideas on other ways to go about this / ways to make the user control work?

I am trying to create an If Then statement to test against the PictureBox.Image property. I want it to test if one image is selected and if so then to switch the image. This is what I have:
If PictureBox.Image Is My.Resources.Image1 Then
PictureBox.Image = My.Resources.Image2
Else[code]....
I am trying to figure out how to make Alt + Clicking on the picture generates this response.

I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.

I am in the process of creating a relatively simple "yahtzee" game for a final class project. I have a "Roll the dice" button on my form that when clicked chooses 4 random numbers 1-6. Each number is a seperate "dice", each of the 4 pictureBoxes is meant to represent a seperate dice. A series of If then statements is being used for each picture box so that for example The random number is 1, a image of a dice facing the 1 side is displayed.[code]...

I have a picturebox that contains an image and the background of that image has been set to transparent and saved as a .gif in photoshop cs2.
I used that image in a picturebox and I set the BackColor of that picturebox to transparent, but it's not transparent; I have a gray background on that picture.

I am writing a VB 2008 Express Edition application which has multiple forms. All of the forms contain one or more PictureBox controls. All PictureBox controls have assigned bitmaps via Image property during development mode. So far, all the bitmaps displayed during runtime without a slightest problem. Now, suddenly, not a single new one (i.e. which I add from this moment on) would display bitmap during runtime. All the old ones (i.e. those which I have added up to that unspecified point in time when something went wrong) still display bitmaps fine as they did before. But any newly added PictureBox (or, come to that, any other control which can display bitmap.
I have tried also Label control) displays the bitmap loaded via Image property only during development mode. During runtime the PictureBox shows as empty. I tried to load the bitmap during runtime via command Image.FromFile and that works fine (but I don't want to use this approach in my program). If I create a completely new application, all PictureBox controls display the bitmaps just fine. I don't get any errors or warnings in VB editor. I reinstalled the whole VB 2008 Express Edition including SP1 and .NET 3.5 SP1 with no difference whatsoever (as would be expected as any new application works with PictureBox controls fine).

When they overlap, I would like to be able to see one fish under the other fish.I have made the background (white) of the image transparent in photoshop and the background color of the form seems to show through the background of the fish image, but when 2 fish overlap, ones background covers up the other.

Is there any predefined property by which I can set the DisplayFormat/DisplayStyle of a textbox? Suppose I want a textbox to hold the actual value 888888888888.88 and show it formatted as 888,888,888,888.88. In short it should hold 'Double' data type value and show it with thousand separators and decimal places upto two digits. If text is cleared from the textbox, it should have 0 as value and 0.00 as displayed value. Also the number of digits in the textbox may vary accordingly. So how can it be done?

Back in Visual Basic 6.0 and prior I could have a picturebox control and then have multiple images on that and using a gif file; then I'd have some images transparent. For example, I am trying to make a map where each country has it's own layer and the void is transparent so the underlying picturebox contains all the water.
However, in visual studio I've noticed the image control is now gone. I tried using a panel and a picturebox on top of that and it works but I can't use another picturebox on top of that picturebox, nor can I stack multiple panels with the same affect.
