VS 2010 Transparent Drawing Layer?

Feb 15, 2011

Okay, I'm making a fresh start and re-exploring my options. I'm trying to put a layer of transparency over a program that will act as a drawing layer. The cursor should be able to sniff to see whether it's sitting on transparency, or a drawn object. Transparency it will click through, while clicking on a drawn object will enable the user to edit said drawn object.

I've been trying to do this using a user control I made from scratch, but this is starting to look more and more like a dead end the deeper I get into it. Currently the layer of transparency works, along with the cursor sniffing, but the user control refuses to be brought to the front.

Any ideas on other ways to go about this / ways to make the user control work?

VS 2008 Connect A Logic Layer Between Presentation Layer And Data Layer?

Feb 7, 2011

I am generally following this tutorial, the main differences being I'm using 2008 R2 Express and Windows Forms, he is using 2005 & ASP.NET Web Site:'m building a minimalist Windows Form project for learning purposes. So I'm using a 1-table database with 2 columns, ContactID & Name. I added a dataset file, 'ContactsDataSet.xsd' to my project and added a single minimalist table adapter with just a fill() & getdata() method.Then I added a DataGridView control and connected it to the ContactsDataSet to confirm it was working and that worked fine. I ran it and it filled up with data as expected. Everything up to this point was auto-generated code.

Semi-Transparent Child Form (or Other Semi-transparent Layer) Within A Form?

Dec 16, 2011

I'm trying to draw a semi-transparent layer over my entire form when certain events occur, with a prompt in front of this semi-transparent layer (similar to the effect in Windows Vista/7 with UAC enabled)At first I was trying to use a custom semi-transparent panel, but this didn't seem to work at all. As such I'm now trying to use a child form within the form using the opacity property on the form. However, when this semi-transparent form is added to the controls of the main form and displayed, it loses it's transparency.I've got a hacky work around at the moment where the semi-transparent layer isn't actually a component within the main form, and the transparency works then, but obviously this isn't ideal and could potentially cause various issues further down the line.

Class - Add A Readonly Property To Layer That Is Calculated Using Some Layer Information?

Nov 30, 2010

I am working in VB.NET defining my own classes. I have 5 classes, Policy, Coverage, CoverageCollection, Layer, and LayerCollection. Policy has a bunch of data items, one of which is of type CoverageCollection. Coverage has a bunch of data items, one of which is of type LayerCollection.

Policy
private id as Long
private name as String[code].....

Then I do like "dim p as Policy". So, iIn order to get to properties on a Layer, I reference it like p.cov(0).lyr(0).face. What I am trying to do is add a readonly property to Layer that is calculated using some Layer information but also using something from Coverage (or even Policy). I can take this in as a parameter to the property, but I think there should be a way to get at Coverage/Policy information since I am "under" it already. Is there a way to do this?

VS 2010 Transparent Black Overlay?

Feb 3, 2012

When the dialog pops up, the screen dims down almost as if they overlapped the screen with a transparent black layer of some sort. This is easily accomplish able by creating a black form and having its opacity set to half and starting it maximized-which I'm already doing. The problem with this though is I need to do this within a form, so using a panel or anything is out of the questions since transparency really grabs the background image and not the actual controls underneath. Plus I feel if adding a form to another forms controls depletes it's ability to use it's opacity property.The form I need this in is my cash register. It is full screen but if my menu auto hides it still resizes. It has two parts, the order(panel to the left) and the payments(panel to the right). As you could imagine I want the payments portion blacked out until the order is capable of accepting payments(the payment due is greater than 0). Or I'm thinking it fallows the mouse, you mouse over the payments and the orders panel blacks out, and vice verse.

Plus I have tried googling this but no one seems to have the answer on other forums.. Everyone gets confused and the thread ends short with no solution. Apparently though experts-exchange has the answer, but wants me to pay... so no. Wish their site would stop showing up in my google results.But did have an idea of what I could do. My best guess was I could take a snap shot of just the panel I want to black out. Set it as the background image for that panel THEN use my overlay panel(back color sent to black) overlapping the appropriate section with it's transparency set to half.. But still I'm not sure how to take a snap shot of just a particular.control..

VS 2010 Transparent Labelbox Above Picturebox?

Apr 12, 2011

I'm playing with some new UI for one of my projects. I have created a digital display board in Photoshop and added a Picturebox in my VB project and used that image in it.But what I want to do is, I'll be displaying some text above that image. When I tried placing a LabelBox and setting it's BackColor to Transparent, doesn't work !

The text in the LabelBox will be changing each second. So, what I'm doing is using a Timer control with 1000 as interval and displaying the text.What will be the solution ? Do I have to draw the text on the picturebox on Paint event ?

VS 2010 Drawing On A Canvas With Wpf?

Jun 30, 2010

Finally took the plunge for wpf, all was going well until i needed to do a simple drawing on a canvas control (presume this is the right surface to use). First thing i noticed is that there is no paint event in wpf so i looked at a few others (Initialized, layout updated) at this point i looked under google and found very little on this. would anyone here have or know of a tutorial to allow this functionality? My application (a testbed) will draw an archery target within the canvas along with score numbers in the correct place as follows to do this it will need to draw several filled circles with black (or white) borders and text objects in the correct position. the locations and widths of the circles will be determined using a simple algorithm so my question is on the structure of paint events within wpf, are the commands the same as in gdi+?

VS 2010 Cannot MouseClick On Transparent Form Background?

Jan 30, 2012

I have a form, and the background color of the form is set to the transparency key, making the background of the form transparent. The problem I'm having, is that the form cannot recognize the MouseClick event (when I click on the transparent background of the form). I figured out that the transparent background is triggering this problem. When I shut off the transparency, everything works fine.My question is.. Is there any work around? I still need to use the form to be able to access certain objects that are rendering there, so I don't think I could use something like a "Panel" for example, because the objects will render underneath and possibly make them inaccessible.

VS 2010 Make Certain Parts Of A Form Transparent?

I know you can make certain parts of a form transparent by setting the transparencyKey of the form to the color of your choice.

Me.MdiParent.TransparencyKey = Color.Fuchsia
Me.BackColor = Color.Fuchsia

Once I set the form to be a MDI Container, it seems to just ignore that function.

On my MDI Container form I have a menu and that is the only thing I want displayed. I want the container itself to be transparent. The forms that get loaded into the mdicontainer will be shown normal.
