I'm moving code from code-behind to classes and run into a problem. I have a method which makes a string (an html invoice). In the method a final amount is created. I want to make a class called Invoice which will have the method "CreateInvoice" which will return a string and I also want to set the finalCharge property of the object.[code]

I have a class i've called "buttons", which passes in 1 variable, the button text, and then returns a new button with that text. however, i do not know how to get the class, when called to return a button.
similar to how 'toString' works, except it would return a button object instead of a string. (im not sure how toString works in vb.net. in java it is automatically called when you call the new class, so newclass and newclass.toString(); return the same) [code]...

When on the main form I call the funtion takeMeasurement(1) how can I get the LCR readings back. If I try and use readingBufferA1 on the mainform it doesn't recognize that as a variable. I know that it is taking the reading and storing the correct numbers because I am monitoring on NI Spy.

View 1 RepliesI'm making a class that reads a file and processes data in it, but I need some error handling. I'm giving it a constructor that takes a file location and processes that file. How can I make it so the constructor tells the program whether it found the file or not? Optimistically the program that calls this class would check for that first, but since I'm not going to be the only one that uses this class I'd like to know how to secure such a thing. It's probably bad practice to do this within the class, but I'd like to be sure it's as portable as possible.

So after this request is accomplished I have, on the webservice side a series of Name,Type Pairs that I need to serialize and send back to my client. I could use a List(of String()) to send the values back but I want to use a List(of Custom_Class) instead because later I have to do this on a much larger scale and I want to learn on this simpler version.

What is the purpose of using shared methods that return an instance of a class, as opposed to a constructor?
ie: in VB.net, the system.drawing.color class has shared method "FromArgb(int, int, int) as color". This is different from java's implementation which simply is a constructor that takes three ints. Why the decision to do one or the other?

I am struggling to extract a 'matched' string and wonder if I am missing something simple.Let's say my code finds a string 'abcdefgh -john. smith 1234567 a123-a-123-f the last search, abc, 123 ;'I am searching this string for the pattern '[a-z]###-[a-z]-###-*'I know this text appears in the string as 'a123-a-123-f'I would like to be able to return the matched string value 'a123-a-123-f' to a variable.If I place a wildcard * in front of the pattern, it will find the text, but obviously everything else in front of it, is there a way that somebody can think of to strip the variable without using the preceding wildcard?I am not worried about the wildcard on the end of the string as I can strip back to the last space.[code]

I have this application which has one class. I need to return a recordset of data to the calling form. If i use Properties to return, it can only return only a single value at a time.
