VS 2010 Application.restart() After Downloading A New Update
Sep 9, 2010I was trying to use application.restart() to restart my application after downloading a new update. It seems to run into the problem where it is trying to start the new application before the original is closed so it errors out and never starts. After reading through some threads here I determined the better way to handle it would be
application.exit() process.start(application.executablepath) This didn't work and gave me what seems to be the same problem. I would also like to note this works fine when running the application through visual studios, it is only when I try to run this independent of VS2010 that the application never restarts.
BackgroundWorker To Update Progressbar And Label While Downloading Large File
Mar 10, 2012I place some code below to simplify the process.
1) I am trying to use background worker to download a large file and update a progress bar to reflect the changes as the large 5GB file is being downloaded, and also update percentage completed to the label.text(lblInfo).
2) As I was goggling I came across some info that a web client is needed to calculate the maximum size of the file and divide by 100 and you can stream it down with the web client. Reading it is one thing, implementing it is another as I spent week trying to get it to work.

Application For Multi-downloading Certain Files?
Apr 9, 2009Basically I want to create a little program with 5 or so text fields where I enter the specific names of movies. Upon pressing a "go" button it then does a google search(with certain criteria) for all textfield entries on the website [URL} and then download the files, if possible without opening a browser.
Search criteria:
-only video formats(.avi .mov etc)
-download url contains the "_de" tag (to insure german trailers)
That way it should hopefully find the right trailer and download it. If possible have it use progress bars.
How much work do you think this is? Or is it even possible? From a logical standpoint I don't think it's too much work... I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition. My project currently is just full of test code but I will post it anyway:

Nov 8, 2010I am trying to download a file off my web server (easy) but the file its downloading is the updated version of the file running. I finally was able to program my automatic update software the program simply downloads a .txt file from my web server, reads it, and if the the version = (new version here) then download. If not, then go to another form. The problem I am getting though, is when the version is outdated, the file will go to download the new .exe and it gets and error saying "File already exists"

Jan 15, 2012I've built a VSTO add-in for Microsoft Word and deployed to a webserver. Installation goes off without a hitch. When I create an updated version of the application and redeploy it to the webserver, the add-in correctly detects that there's a new version and attempts to update it. This is where I'm running into the following error (the "xxx" indicates that I had to censor something):url...The customization cannot be installed because another version is currently installed and cannot be upgraded from this location. To install this version of the customization,first use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall this program: xxx. Then install the new customization from the following location: url...This appears to me as if I left a local reference of some sort in my Project, but I can't find anything of the sort. The only reference to this file is within the xxx.vbproj.FileListAbsolute.txt file that's generated in the bin/Debug folder.Not sure if this is also a clue, but I'm seeing Registry Keys added referencing this as the location of the VSTO Project Manifest.

Sep 20, 2009I've got a code in VB that will download a txt file from a website. The problem is I want this file to be downloaded into whatever folder that my program is in. for example, if my program was in C:
andom_folder then I would want this txt file downloaded to C:
andom_folder
Here is some of my

But in the spot to put where to place the file, I can't just put C:andom_folder because individual users may have this program installed in other parts of there computer.

P.S - I believe the reason it doesn't have an extension is because the picture changes each time the url is loaded (probably through a php code). I'm not too sure on the specifics, but the lack of an extension is what I am having problems with.

I am using visual basic express. I am very new to .net programing. why I am getting html page instead of the zip file.
