Refreshing DataGrid On Parent Form After A Child Form Has Updated DB?

Dec 3, 2009

Basically I have two forms - Form1 has a DataGrid on it (Infragistics) and in the double-click row event it creates an instance of the EditForm and passes along the UniqueId for editing. Once the user saves the changes (if they make changes) - I want the DataGrid on Form1 to refresh. Here is how I thought I could get this to work ... I create a public property called RefreshRequired as boolean. Before unloading the EditForm it sets this property to true. Then Unloads. This continues the code in Form1 (which showed the EditForm as modal) but RefreshRequired is still showing as False? Why isn't my EditForm able to set the property?

I have a Master List in the DataGrid that displays all the "Monitors" - think of them as Audits (for context). Basically when a user clicks on a row in the DataGrid the TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers all show the values and the user can edit them there and that all reflects in the DataGrid just fine. How do i go about using the same TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers to add a new record?

Updating Form Totals On DataGrid Changes

Sep 4, 2011

How do I fire an event when changes are made in a datagrid embedded in my form? My datagrid houses line items for different forms (Sales Orders, Purchases Orders, etc.), and when a value is changed (i.e. quantity or price), I want it to re-calculate the datagrid automatically (extended amount) and also re-calculate totals in the form itself without having to hit the Save Button. Right now I have a sub-routine that fires when the button is chosen, but how do I fire this event automatically on datagrid changes?

Master / Detail Form - Updating Modified Record

Jun 16, 2010

Scenario: VB2010 express + Sql Server 2008 express.
I have a master/detail form where I can modify a record. With VB 2010, I use the new Table Adapter Manager which handles all Updates/Deletes against the database inside a Transaction. Question is that before I update the modified record (only the master one), I need to insert it in another table (history table). My question is how I make both insert and update inside the same Transaction. By code? Using Stored Procedure?

VS 2010 Updating DGV And Dt After Dt Is Updated And Data Is Inserted Into DB?

Mar 9, 2012

I have an issue with a data table that I have updated using the datatable.update command. The datatable is bound to the datagridview using dgv.datasource = datatable.I have used INSERT and UPDATE commands and the INSERT command writes the data back to the database ok. However my problem is that it the dgv is not updated with the primary key (ID field) from the database. So when I save a second time, instead of updating it just inserts the data again.

Fields Updated In DGV But No Record Retained

Jan 28, 2009

I have VB.Net Exp 2008 with SQL Exp 2008, on a windows form I have 6 databound textboxes and 6 unbound textboxes, in the bound textboxes the records show as the bound dataGridView rows are selected, in the unbound textboxes is where I will enter the new record to be sent to the database. Added an SQL database in the designer which gave me a dataset(MdDB1DataSet) and a tableAdapter(MdTBTableAdapter). My problem is with adding, updating and deleting records. The add records button addes it during debug to the dataGridView, but does not return when I debug again. So this means it is not added to the database. The update button updates the fields in the DGV, but no record was retained.

Add Record button:
Dim nr As DataRow = MdDB1DataSet.Tables(mdTb).NewRow
nr(0) = Trim(txtAdd1.Text)
nr(1) = Trim(txtAdd2.Text)
nr(2) = Trim(txtAdd3.Text)
nr(3) = Trim(txtAdd4.Text)

Event After Next Record Has Populated Child Record In A Datagrid?

May 27, 2011

Visual Studio Pro 2010 Win 7 64 bit running bootstrapped to a MacBook Pro i5 (blasphemer!!!) works really well though!!New to vb.net, have used vb6 for several years and finding the transition interesting to say the least.I have an access database with a vb.net front end all auto bound by the connection and binding wizards (I know, I know...) Not too complicated, but a simple 2 table related db. On the form the parent table shows customer details with the child table related and displayed by datagrid. I have a field in the child table for images and I have figured out how to store and retrieve images to the db. I am using the datagrid.rowheadermouseclick event to reload the picturebox on the main form as I click down the child table datagrid. Now I need to be able to click the bindingnavigator, go to the next record and have the program reload the image for the next child record. The problem is I'm trying to use an event from either the datagrid or bindingnavigator to reload the picturebox in the child table after moving to the next record, but all of the events I am trying are firing before the next record is moved to and therefor the logic I'm using to retrieve the image from the db is not working.

Anyone with an idea on how to move to the next record and then run my logic to populate the picturebox? What events might I use that fire after the next record has been populated? I know this is probably not that hard, but I have been racking my brain all day now.

DB/Reporting :: Updating Client Data Tables When Data Table On Shared Drive Is Updated?

Sep 28, 2009

I would like to know the best, or standard, way to accomplish real-time client updates in a small multi-user application using an access data table as a data source.Specifically, this application will be used by 3-4 people. It uses a datatable which is filled on form load and bound to a datagrid at design time. The datatable is stored on a shared drive. The data table on the shared drive is updated in two ways:

1) Users can update the datagrid which then updates the datatable on the shared drive via the data adapter's Update method.

2) A server application does some work on some text files, periodically updating the data table.

I need the clients to reflect the changes to the data table on the shared drive as closely to real-time as possible. I know that the data table stored in memory on the client is disconnected from the data table on the shared drive, so I must query again to get the updates.

1) Is there an alternvative model I can use which is connected, and which will automatically reflect the updates in the data table on the shared drive?

2) If not, what is the best way to check for changes in the data table (so I can know when to call the data adapter fill method)? I am planning to poll the drive for a change to the .mdb file, raise an event and then fill the data adapter when the event is triggered. I am using this method successfully now to check for changes to a text file in another application, and I know how to implement it?

Simultaneous List Updating - Prevent The List From Being Updated From Different Locations

Nov 26, 2008

I use a List(Of T) (where each T is a custom type with a few members) to keep track of about 500 items that change all the time. The list can be changed from different locations within the program (uses background workers that monitor the list).

Question: Is there some built-in way to prevent the List from being updated from different locations or from different threads at the same time? For example, one thread may remove an item from the list while another location changes one of the members of an item, causing conflict, wrong data and errors. Perhaps there is a standard way in VB.Net (framework) to solve this type of problem?

I use VB2008 (VS2008 Pro) and WinXP SP2.
