Cannot Get SendInput To Work
May 21, 2009I'm writting a "Console Application" using Visual Basic (VB.net) 2008 Express Edition in a Windows XP SP3 environment, and I'm trying to get SendInput to work.
I have been able to get SendKeys working, and I'll use it if I must, but there are some unpleasant control issues. Plus, it's incompatible with Vista, from everything I've heard.
So, I'm including two attachments. The first is a quick-and-dirty working example of SendMessage (actually SendMessageString) which I've used to half-way convince myself that I know how to use the "user32.dll" API's. (For simplicity, I've stripped out all of the error-testing logic.)
The second bit of code is my unsuccessful attempt to get SendInput to send some test keystrokes to Notepad. (I've heard some people say it can't be done in VB.net. Are they right?) To get a clean compile, I had to comment out 'CopyMemory' because how to get it to work. Is it essential to the code?

Jun 11, 2011My curse seems to be SendInput... I have tried many sites and code variations and it never works right... it always returns an error. So can someone just whip together a quick class that has 3 public methods, one for keyboard (that takes a Keys data type) one for mouse, and one for Hardware?

Mouse Click With Sendinput?
Jan 10, 2011I tried this code with windows7 and xp,with 3 different pcs and both with .net4 and .net3.5 and it doesn't work. Basically I want to press the left mouse button. Searching the net I've found that the only decent solution is to use sendinput function, two times (one for click and one for release) the function always returns 0 with an error code "operation completed", but the the click doesn't happen...

However , the only way I have been able to get it to work is by focusing the external application then sending input. I want to know how to use sendinput to send keys to a background process without giving it focus.

I first send "Return" and then a bunch of other stuff. SendInput Fails But Autohotkey Works?
Jun 11, 2011I am replacing an AutoHotkey script with a VB.net application. Part of the script involves sending keystrokes to an active application. VB uses SendInput and does send the keystrokes, but the application doesn't "get" them, but when AutoHotkey sends the same key to the same application, it works. I have verified that VB is indeed sending the keys properly. Does anyone know how to imitate the autohotkey Send function?

Jul 2, 2009I asked a similiar question in the VB6 forums with some methods I was trying there, but this is a different method that I'm trying in .Net that I cannot get to work. First what I'm trying to do, I play a game that allows attended macroing, so I'm trying to write a program that I can record and playback macros in. I already have the recording down, and I can playback my macros using older API Keybd_Event and Mouse_event, but not in the game. The game recognize all the mouse events, but does not recognize all the keyboard events. (It is a DirectX based game by the way). For example if I record they keystrokes h e l l o and have notepad in focus and play it back it will type hello in notepad, but in the game they keys are not recognized.

Sep 9, 2011this code was not done by me originally and there are some thigns here i dont quite understand i have altered it a bit from my coworkers code to suit my data and it works. but too slow. and when i have 4000+kb excel files it might freeze altogether. ( I have checked tho that when and after this transposer runs it will still be within the excel row limit, i had done calculations before and made a macro to automatically split excel files based on number of columns and rows to make sure this is so ). This code seems to start out fast then goes slower the longer it runs. at least this is what it seems liek to me.

Jan 9, 2012I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information.At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:

Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

I can get the code to show up at the end of the page's URL that my textbox is on, but what do I add to every page to make sure that the session stays at the end of every URL that person visits during their session? Sep 10, 2010In my project, I have a local dataset (XSD) that I am using as local-temporary tables. I am getting a System.InvalidCastException when trying to access the field in one the tables. I believe this is because I my code is (incorrectly) not setting a field's value in a row before trying to access it.My problem is that the exception is breaking in the designer file and not in my code. As a result, I'm having difficulting determining which line of my code reading the field value before it has been set. Is there any way to configure Visual Studio to break in my code instead of in the designer created file?
