Using Stored Chrome Instead Of IE Cookie In Application?
Nov 2, 2011
is it possible to use stored Chrome cookies in VB.NET?
I need to periodically check certain data on a webpage that requires login. I know I can login with Internet Explorer first and then later use the stored Internet Explorer cookie in my application to visit that webpage.
The problem is that I use Chrome to browse that website. When I first login with IE in order to check the data with my application and then browse the website manually with Chrome, the Chrome cookie is suddenly invalid. Then I need to login with Chrome, but then the IE cookie is suddenly invalid again and my application can't check the data anymore.
So, it's not possible to browse the website (logged in with Chrome) and periodically check the data in the background (logged in with IE) at the same time.
I really do not want to use IE to browse that website. The only way to make this work properly, is if I could use the stored Chrome cookie in my application, instead of the IE cookie.

here is what I'm trying to do (partly in pseudo code):
Public Sub KillProcess(ByRef strProcessToKill As String)
Dim proc() As Process = Process.GetProcesses
For i As Integer = 0 To proc.GetUpperBound(0)
If proc(i).ProcessName = strProcessToKill Then
proc(i).Kill()
End If
[Code]...
The killprocess part works fine. However, if I try a "For Each App As Process In Process.GetProcessesByName("chrome"") approach and have several chrome windows open then it will display the question 5 times if there are 5 chrome processes open.

I am having an issue with a cookie that keeps getting deleted by the application. When you go into the application, if the cookie does not exist, it gets created. This works fine and everything in the cookie is stored correctly. When I click on a link to go to another page, once everything loads completely, the cookie gets deleted from the file system. Even stranger than that, the values from the cookie remain until the browser is closed. That is the application appears to be retaining the values even though the cookie does not exist on the local file system. The next time you enter the application, the cookie is recreated so any values stored are lost.Now, I have done some tweaking on the code to see what could be causing it. I found that I am adding the cookie to the Response object any time I make a change to the cookie. The cookie is also being added to the Response object when the page load is completed. My initial thought was that adding the cookie multiple times to the Response object could be causing the issue. I commented out the code in the page load complete event and the cookie hung around until the next postback. Then I put in some logic to keep the application from putting the cookie into the Response object more than once, and then I lost the cookie again at the same point as before.All of the code for handling cookies is in my "base page" that all pages inherit from. The page that seems to be loosing the cookie is my search page. I am including the code from both of those pages.[code]

I have a customer intranet (ASP.NET / VB) thats instantiating an asp.net session checking various things in the dblogin process. The Intranet has various sub-systems.The marketing sub-system requires an app_role to be assigned to the Intranet user for them to view the section.I need to create a new booking form for this section but the code appears to use a generic form which is use throughout the site in various other sections. So its not a good idea to ammend what is currently there.Create a new application in C# / ASP.NET and also in IIS. (rather than a new site, create an app within the Intranet site in IIS)Will I be able to check for the session thats currenting set in the cookie?If the session is open then the user is able to see the Intranet and I assume I will need to do some checks for the app_role too.I am simply going to put the URL for the app in the menu for marketing and then do another check just incase someone gives the URL to someone who doesnt have access to the menu.Will i be able to check and use the cookie thats been instantiated by another application?

I have files stored encrypted on disk in an unnamed, unordered state. when the files are downloaded by the user, the client is redirected to a download handlers (.ashx) the data is loaded into a stream, decrypted and sent to the client. Now this has worked fine until recently,
It works fine on all browsers except chrome where the file is downloaded as a .gz file and is unreadable?
I have stripped out the stream fetching and cryptography parts for brevity (keep in mind this works perfectly on IE, Firefox etc)
Private Function StreamFile(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext) As Boolean
context.Response.Clear()
context.Response.ClearHeaders()
[Code]....
Note that the filename is codekiwi.txt and the contents are some simple plain text, the file gets saved as codekiwi.txt.gz and contains gibberish.

in my application, I pull in http code from the server side. When this code is placed into the application - the event will happen when clicked in IE, but not in any other browser. Heres the part of the code that deals with the image that is clicked and the event.
<img canExpand="true" style="cursor:hand" id="img34635" src="../images/plus.gif" EntityID="346" EntityCat="35" onclick="LoadChild(this.EntityID, this.EntityCat, 0, this.lnEquip)">
LoadChild is a javascript function on the client side of the page. When the image is clicked in anything other than IE , nothing happens. Can anyone see why this is happening? It may be a formatting issue.
edit - here is the javascript function load child
function LoadChild(lnEntityID, lnEntityCat, FullExpand, EquipID) {
document.getElementById('dropTypes').disabled = false;
document.getElementById('dropTypes').style.background = "white";

I have created a database with on table that is very similar in setup to ProductCostHistory from the Adventureworks database. Using the adventureworks database as an example, when the procedure is given the parameters of date and productID it will change the EndDate of the currently active cost to the date value and insert a new record with productID as the ProductID and Date as the StartDate, leaving EndDate null for the newly inserted record. I am looking for a way to create a simple form with two textboxes and a button. textbox1 accepts the ProductID parameter and textbox2 accepts the Date value. when the button is pressed, the stored procedure is executed and the table is updated. This seems pretty simple and I am very familiar with tieing stored procedures to a table in a dataset when each prcedure handles only a single simple action (either, SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE but not a single procedure that combines UPDATE and INSERT as the procedure described above does). I've done some reading and played with this on myown but can not find the simplest straightforward way of accomplishing this seemingly simple task.

All of those disadvantages of stored procedures (database portability etc.) I am now facing. We are going to migrate our VB.Net/ASP/SQL Server application to something like Mono/Postgresql and fully internationalize.
One of the many issues we face is that we have 800-900 stored procedures. What we are thinking of doing is moving the logic in these SP's in to the application code. I have searched around for how people have done this or how it can be done however I have found very little. Most of the info on stored procedures is about what should be in them etc. So I have come to the conclusion that the best way to approach this is to leave the SQL retrieve/update type queries as stored procedures and move the ones with business logic in to the application.

I have a several form elements that I am dynamically creating with javascript when a user changes a number value in a textbox, by filling the innerHTML of a div like so:
dfinnerhtml = dfinnerhtml + "<div class='field'> ";
dfinnerhtml = dfinnerhtml + "<textarea name='textbox1" + suffix + "' type='text' id='textbox1" + suffix + "' value='' rows='4' cols='20' class='field'></textarea> ";
dfinnerhtml = dfinnerhtml + "</div> ";
Then, in the aspx.vb code behind, when the user clicks the Save button, I run through a series of Requests to try and add the values that are in these form elements to a SQL string:
Dim DFTestValue1 As String DFTestValue1 = Request("textbox" & c.ToString)
where c is a loop counter to the # of textboxes created (the input value mentioned above that triggers the create) The problem here is that this code works in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox or Chrome. The Request() value returns null and nothing is saved. I hope I've explained this well enough.

Google Chrome has a handy feature where I can click a download link and drag it into a Windows Explorer window, and then drop. After dropping, Chrome then downloads the file and it appears where I dropped it.
I would like to be able to drop from Google Chrome into my application, but it seems it isn't so simple. I have a DataGridView called gridFiles, and the following code:
Private Sub gridFiles_DragDrop(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DragEventArgs) Handles gridFiles.DragDrop
If e.Data.GetDataPresent(DataFormats.FileDrop) Then
[Code].....
EDIT: So it seems that with regular URLs, I do get the proper dragged-in UniformResourceLocator format. The behavior I am seeing occurs with the download links in Gmail. It probably happens elsewhere, but I am not sure. When a gmail attachment is dragged from Gmail into my application, I get a FileDrop.
Doing some more digging, it seems that Gmail is using the download_url attribute of the anchor tag. I have never heard of this before. Perhaps this is just an extra property they have added?
In any case, since my application will primarily be used with e-mail attachments, I need a way for the phantom FileDrop to work, as stated above. I am unable to use Spy++. It doesn't seem to show any messages when drops occur.
Edit #2: Here is more information on how Gmail utilizes drag/drop for files: [URL]

I am having some difficulty with an xPath expression. I am using an XML document to store queries / stored procedure names in an ASP application. I use a utility function to load the xmldocument (if it isn't previously loaded) and I am attempting to select the node set from the document that matches an Id element. [code] the node variable only returns the first element. I have verified the that the qry string that is used to SelectSingleNode IS the correct Id value (i.e. USER002) - however the node is getting loaded with the USER001 element. It is obviously the xPath expression that is messed up. What do I need to tweak on the xPath expression so that I can return the correct <Id> element and corresponding child <Sql> element.

I have a .NET login page. It works properly in Internet Explorer 7, but i want to make it compatible with Chrome, Mozilla and Safari.
The login code behind is:
Protected Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
{..................
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(Me, Me.GetType(), "test", "login()", True)
........}
The ASPX page code is:
function login()
{
if(document.getElementById("ctl00_Sidebar_Contentplaceholder_Lo1_SaveFlag").value =="Y")
[code]....
This is not working. I tried to debug it, but in debug mode the cursor only steps through the code behind. I'm not able to enter the javascript login() function on the aspx page.
