Implementing Drag-drop From Chrome On .NET Windows Form
May 25, 2011Google Chrome has a handy feature where I can click a download link and drag it into a Windows Explorer window, and then drop. After dropping, Chrome then downloads the file and it appears where I dropped it.
I would like to be able to drop from Google Chrome into my application, but it seems it isn't so simple. I have a DataGridView called gridFiles, and the following code:

EDIT: So it seems that with regular URLs, I do get the proper dragged-in UniformResourceLocator format. The behavior I am seeing occurs with the download links in Gmail. It probably happens elsewhere, but I am not sure. When a gmail attachment is dragged from Gmail into my application, I get a FileDrop.
Doing some more digging, it seems that Gmail is using the download_url attribute of the anchor tag. I have never heard of this before. Perhaps this is just an extra property they have added?
In any case, since my application will primarily be used with e-mail attachments, I need a way for the phantom FileDrop to work, as stated above. I am unable to use Spy++. It doesn't seem to show any messages when drops occur.

Custom Form In VB 2008 Express?
Jun 6, 2009im creating my own custom form design for some of my programs...i would like to get the basic form down and then save it as a template...before i can do that i need some help designing and creating the form. Im going for a windows office 2007 sorta look with a glowing orb at the top right. I need a few coding elements to implement first.

yes these are all things capable with the traditional windows form but i want something more my style. Also im creating a orb like thing in the top left and a minimize/maximize/close button at the top right. I was going to use just images...is this the best way or can i create better graphics in wpf or something like that? Some more things that i would like but dont nessarly need would be the capablity to make my form with the clear vista aero glass instead of a single static color...i dont know mutch about this but is there an easy way to extend the vista aero glass theme across forms and if so what would that look like on xp machines.

Nov 14, 2011I've search the net in order to create a custom control but nothing I find is worth looking at, The main thing I want to do is create a skinengin via DLL and import it in my vb 2010 then using or creating some sort of skin builder where I can create a full setting file which contains all the details of the customization regarding the Form(Look, Feel and the controls such as a menu), I have used Iriskin and multiple apps doing this for me and when a user installs my application they still recieve a message about buying the registered DLL file, I would like to create it completely from scratch.

May 6, 2009I'm developing a windows form app in visual studio 2008 express. I'm usin a sql compact 3.5 database on it through the program, several changes are made to database data, and so, i have on form1_closing event, a code to save the dataset back to database, something like:

But when i run my program on the debugger, the changes i mkae, don't get saved, are lost...is this a charecteristic of debugger, or is my "saving code" wrong?

Mar 30, 2009How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:

Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.

This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.

What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc

VS 2008 - How To Create Custom Shaped Form As Main Page Of App
Mar 16, 2010I have need for a customised form as the main page of my app, what I'm looking for is to create an amoebic shaped form, something like this. I realize that my 'window' will by nature need to be rectangular and that i will need it to have no titlebar and transparent edges, also i will need to have 'regions' on this form that will allow the form to be closed and turned into a standard rectangular form. I have no idea where to begin with doing this but I hope and presume it is possible with vb.net. The image I have used is for illustrative purposes only, i don't plan to do exactly this (my app is a database not a media player for one thing) If having it is a breach of copyright in this context I will remove it.

The killprocess part works fine. However, if I try a "For Each App As Process In Process.GetProcessesByName("chrome"") approach and have several chrome windows open then it will display the question 5 times if there are 5 chrome processes open.

I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file

Dec 3, 2011I'm new in development in vb.net IDE, and I need your advises on how to create multi form in one screen like a project properties screen in VB2008 IDE, thus when you you go to Menu Project -> Project Properties... you can see that screen is divided into two panes the left one for options to choose and the right one for configuration and preferences.
I need to know how to achive this and how to create similar to that thus if you choose any button from left the form content changes at right (ok is this single form and all controls were set to invisible /visible or is it muliform programming.
I have another question : how can I change the Left pane with Treeview control and choose my option from there.

May 17, 2010I created a custom user control named "XYZ" and It is avaialble at the toolbox menu in the design mode and I can drag and drop it to a vb.net Windows form. What I really want is to dynamically to add this user control to the Windows form during the Windows form load event. Actually I want to add this user control to a "split container" named "sc_1" on the tab page named "tp_1" on a tab control named "tc_1" on a Windows form.
