Mar 31, 2009
how to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual BasicI am new to this so I will try to explain the best I can.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out. Or reference?I don't need anyone to do this for me I just need an explanation of how to do this or some kind of reference. Would this be a text template?

How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:
Code:
function Init(Quest)
Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.
Ex:
Code:
RegisterQuest(Quest, "Kill Zombies", "Heritage", "Firestorm")
end
This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.
[Code] .....
What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc
I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.

I am current upgrading some of the functions on an inventory system. Current system accepts manual data input from the user and stores them in a SQL database.One of the inputs is control number which is a primary key in one of our table so it needs to be unique. Since it is manually entered into the system, we have to keep track of all of control numbers so there is no redundant control number which is difficult since we have hundreds of items with unique control number that are entered into the system everyday.Yes, it is waste of time.So I want our newly upgraded system to have a function where the control number is automatically generated so the control numbers are controled by the system. I know there something similar in MS Access 2007 but I cant seem to find it on Visual Studio. [code]

Is it easier to print a VB.net windows form in Visual Studio 2010?
I have been struggling with this - the PrintForm utility in the Powerpack only prints the displayed portion of the current form.
I spent a lot of time creating a process which loops through each control on my form, converts to a bitmap, and drops it on the print document, only to finally discover that the RichTextBox control (which I used extensively) does not include a functional DrawToBitmap method.
I have already researched various ways of managing this, but if VS2010 will do it without jumping through the hoops then I'll spring for it like the sucker I am.
I can do this in Access and VB6, I believe, so I don't think this is an unreasonable expectation.

I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information.At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.

I installed Visual Studio 2008 and MS-Office_Access under Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) on my new computer. I copied my MS-Access database and my VB project to the new computer. MS-Access works fine.In Visual Studio 2008 an error message appears below my VB project's source coding."Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store."If I execute my program in debug mode and override the error message, it fails to open the MS-Access database and shows the error messageL:"The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider is not registered on the local machine."
Q1. Why am I getting the message about 'mainfest signing certificate'?
Q2. How can I register the 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 on my machine?

I've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?

I produced an MSI for a small VB.net application I need to run on an Intermec 730 pocket PC but get the message "Setup is not a valid Pocket PC application" when trying to install it. What do I need to output the project in the correct format? I've tried changing the target platform but it only has x64 and x86 listed.

I get the message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2008..." whenever I build the install project for my application. It configures VS for a while, then builds the project. This does not happen when I build the vb.net application itself, only the installation project in the same solution. This occurs on applications using the Leadtools library, but not others.

i'm running Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition (latest service pack ... 9.0.30729.1 SP) on XP Pro SP3 with .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1 I have a rather large project I've imported from Visual Studio 2003 (Standard).The project compiles and runs just fine ... my compiled program itself never crashes.
But while I actually have the code up in the IDE, and simply adding/deleting code the whole IDE will randomly crash (usually without warning) and I loose my changes since last save.If/when I do get some hint of why it crashed, I get a window about illegal whitespace or something.... but that's rare ... usually it just crashes without warning and the whole IDE completely shuts down instantly. just deleting/adding a character is enough to trigger it maybe once every 30 minutes.
This is on a computer that is otherwise very rock solid .... no other program ever crashes, etc.

I have recently upgraded my OS from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.I had some of my projects saved on a backup partition and when everything was ready I installed VS and opened my projects.Currently,I'm having problems with two projects.My VS reports build errors and prompts me to run the last successful build,stopping me from making any changes to my code.In my first project(deals with encryption) I get the following error:And in my second project,this is the error:I should add that both projects work fine if I run the last successful build.

Public LoginName As String
Public Password As String
LoginName = txtUserName.Text
Password = txtPassword.Text

The idea is once the user has finished inputting text into both text-boxes the image on the button changes from a no-go to a green-submit button but unsure what declaration it would go under and which element. I have tried several form elements and declarations but not having the desired effect that I would like

I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system.While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen.The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.

I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.

Within my Visual Studio 2008 VB.Net project I am opening multiple forms after setting the form (that is opening) to be an mdichild of the main form. This works in really well in most of my forms except one. I am doing the exact same thing for all of them.
Basically I declare the new form:
Using frm As New frmName() With {.variableName = currentVariable}
frm.MdiParent = Me.MdiParent
frm.openForm()
End Using
Within the openForm subroutine in the form code I have:
Public Sub openForm()
InitializeDataSources()
... ...
Me.Show()
End Sub
I know this works because if I remove frm.MdiParent = Me.MdiParent in the main form and change Me.Show() to Me.ShowDialog() in the child form then it works perfectly. Right now (for only one form) it shows the form for only a second (looks like a flicker when staring at the program) and then closes it.

What I've done is create a User Control Library (Project) and I've added a single User Control to that project. The control contains a single FlowLayoutPanel, and I created a Property on the control itself to pass the FlowDirection from the Control to its FlowLayoutPanel child.
Build, reference, component appears in the Toolbox and everything works fine, but the property on the control does not appear in the Properties window when I go to edit it at design time.

I have a MouseEnter event which currently handles some custom controls on my form. The program is a card game. I have a collection (handCards) that gets populated when the user draws a card and then it adds the latest card to the form. This collection holds cards of various custom types, all which inherit from picturebox. Drawing the cards from the deck and adding them to the form works fine. The trouble I am having is that at runtime, after a card is drawn and added to the form, I've created an addhandler line of code to have those cards respond to my MouseEnter event, but my addhandler line of code is telling me that MouseEnter is not an event of object. How can I get around this so that after a card is drawn and added to the form, when the mouse enters the new custom control, my MouseEnter event fires? Here's one of the many things I've tried and what I think should be the simplest and easiest that should work.deck.DrawCard()AddHandler handCards(handCards.Count).MouseEnter, AddressOf Cards_MouseEnter
P.S. the MouseEnter event works fine for custom controls that are on the form prior to runtime and all it does is take the image of the control and enlarge it by placing the image to a bigger card on the form.
