I'm doing a project with vb.net (smart device) on visual studio 2008 and I need to connect to a database on the device itself (I do not have a physical device to test, only emulation). How should I go about doing it? I would like the database to be in the device on start up.

I produced an MSI for a small VB.net application I need to run on an Intermec 730 pocket PC but get the message "Setup is not a valid Pocket PC application" when trying to install it. What do I need to output the project in the correct format? I've tried changing the target platform but it only has x64 and x86 listed.

I have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my PC and I have a database with some tables.
In Visual Studio, I open the Database Explorer and I try to create a database connection.
The Add connection dialog box proposes to enter a database *file name* but I cannot select a database *server* and a database *name*.
Perhaps, is it a restriction because it is a free version ?
Within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition, I can select a database *server* and a database *name* !
In VB (Visual Studio 2010) i have written a simple coin flip routine and use the code below to display the image of the coin based on a random number 0 or 1

I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I need to work with the data in the table within the application. how to easily load the entire table into an array or even read the table a row or cell at a time so that I can make all of the data available for manipulation within the application (the tutorials only seem to show how to display the data).
View 7 RepliesI am writing my first windows ce app. I am using an xml file (app.Config) to store state data... basically user preferences on the last location (connection string) that the person was using before closing the app. I am having trouble understanding what is happening on deploy. It looks like it is copying my xml file to the debug folder on deploy. My problem is, when I save the xml file it is not saving in my project. Is there another folder in which the emulator resides that contains all of the state data and possibly the file that I am writing out? I am saving the doc to the same filepath as I am reading in but it does not actually save or throw error or anything.

View 1 RepliesI cannot get the VB monthcalendar control to obey any of the properties I set for it, or the commands I give it programatically. It works (sort of - but with obvious bugs) in the state it arrives when copied to a new form straight out of the toolbox, eg when I click on a date etc, however if I set the background colour in Properties (or programatically), or try to change the BoldedDates programatically (as per numerous examples I have found) it ignores me!
I can create a brand new project, new form, add the monthcalendar out of the toolbox, change its properties in the Properties window, & when I run it the changed properties (eg background colour) are totally ignored.
My app is built in vb.net compact. All these years in all versions when user taps at the top or bottom of the screen (depending on where the task bar is located) it brings up the task bar and start menu fine. But now the latest OS build doesn't do it anymore. I'm thinking of having a button in my app to bring up the task bar but not sure how to do it.However, in IE full screen there is a circular button that brings up the task bar. If I can accomplish it in my app that would be good.

View 2 RepliesIve created one database Sql Server Compact Edition 2005, with one table ("Cliente") I know that I can created my database good, but i have a problem saving information since three textbox, in my table(With columns "Nombre" "Apellido" "Cliente". In my form there is a button save ("Guardar"). When I do click in my button appear the next message : "The column cannot contain null values. [ Column name = Nombre,Table name = Cliente ] " and happen the same with apellido and Id_Cliente. And this happen becouse my code cant save the information....

I am using visual studio 2008 professional.i am trying to deploy a simple hello world application to a hand held device.
i currently have the device connected via usb, i can run the app through vb and it deploys and runs on the device however i don't know how to create the install and install it on the device so it can run independent.
I have just purchased VS2008 SE to run on my PC with VS2005 SE. I have been developing a WM6 application using the VS2008 PE trial, the trial period has now ended, hence the purchase of VS2008 SE (full not upgrade). As a private user for hobby purposes I can not afford VS2008 PE. I am astonished to learn that in actual fact VS2008 SE is a step back from VS2005 SE in that the WM6 SDK's on not supported. I have read the below thread: url...I am also annoyed that on the WM6 SDK refresh download page it states clearly that VS2005 SE or higher must be used - hence the purchase of VS 2008 SE.As I have installed on my PC a full version of VS2005 SE and VS2008 SE, is there a way to develop WM6 devices with the tools I have or is VS2008 PE the only solution.

View 2 RepliesI developed a small application which accesses a MS access database on my computer using VB.net. I developed the program on windows xp 32 bit. At the moment I am using windows 7 64 bit and the program simply will not run. I get a null reference exception when I try to do anything to the database. I have narrowed this down i THINK to the db provider. I was using Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; and tried using Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;. Neither seems to work. The path to my database is 100% correct. This is the error I am getting:
Null reference exception was unhandled.Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Like I say the program runs fine on the windows xp machine. If it helps the access database file extension is mdb.
I have a Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition application that operates as a front end for iSeries V6r1. The application was developed on a windows 7 machine. Users load the application from a shared folder on a server. Currently, there are 2 Vista, 3 windows 7 and 4 XP users. All had no problem in loading application, all users except 3 of 4 XP users can run the application with no problems. However, 3 of the XP users receive the following error message when they perform any action that tries to connect to the iSeries:
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
All 4 XP users are on same service pack
I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?
