Get Output From Visual Studio 2008 To Run On Windows Mobile PC?
Sep 25, 2009
I produced an MSI for a small VB.net application I need to run on an Intermec 730 pocket PC but get the message "Setup is not a valid Pocket PC application" when trying to install it. What do I need to output the project in the correct format? I've tried changing the target platform but it only has x64 and x86 listed.
I'm doing a project with vb.net (smart device) on visual studio 2008 and I need to connect to a database on the device itself (I do not have a physical device to test, only emulation). How should I go about doing it? I would like the database to be in the device on start up.
In VB (Visual Studio 2010) i have written a simple coin flip routine and use the code below to display the image of the coin based on a random number 0 or 1
coin = Rnd(1) 'random head or tail head=1 tail = 0 'display relevant image of coin If coin = 0 Then

but can't seem to find a way to display the appropriate image. Is My.Resources not available in the Windows Mobile SDK or is there a different method.
I installed Visual Studio 2008 and MS-Office_Access under Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) on my new computer. I copied my MS-Access database and my VB project to the new computer. MS-Access works fine.In Visual Studio 2008 an error message appears below my VB project's source coding."Unable to find manifest signing certificate in the certificate store."If I execute my program in debug mode and override the error message, it fails to open the MS-Access database and shows the error messageL:"The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider is not registered on the local machine."
Q1. Why am I getting the message about 'mainfest signing certificate'?
Q2. How can I register the 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 on my machine?
If I build a Windows Forms project in Visual Studio 2008, and start it with a Sub Main instead of a form, and for the time being, don't show any forms, is it considered a Console application? Will console.writeline work?
I'm suddenly having trouble with GetPrivateProfileSection in a Windows Forms project in Visual Studio 2008. The same code works when it's run as an aspx page in a website. Anyway, I define the WINAPI call thusly:
I get the message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2008..." whenever I build the install project for my application. It configures VS for a while, then builds the project. This does not happen when I build the vb.net application itself, only the installation project in the same solution. This occurs on applications using the Leadtools library, but not others.

I have recently upgraded my OS from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.I had some of my projects saved on a backup partition and when everything was ready I installed VS and opened my projects.Currently,I'm having problems with two projects. My VS reports build errors and prompts me to run the last successful build, stopping me from making any changes to my code.In my first project(deals with encryption) I get the following error:And in my second project, this is the error:I should add that both projects work fine if I run the last successful build.
how to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual BasicI am new to this so I will try to explain the best I can.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out. Or reference?I don't need anyone to do this for me I just need an explanation of how to do this or some kind of reference. Would this be a text template?
I need to convert the following code to work in a visual studio 2008 windows form application, the moment ObjectQuery, ManagementObjectSearcher, ManagementObject and ManagementObjectCollection are not valid.
im objectQuery As New ObjectQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter WHERE NetConnectionId IS NOT NULL") Dim searcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher(Scope, objectQuery)
In newer editions of .Net I can pass -1 for the output size for VarChar(Max) columns, but in Visual Studio 2003 I get the following System.ArgumentException: Invalid parameter Size value '-1'. The value must be greater than or equal to 0. What should I specify as the size for a VarChar(Max) column in Visual Studio 2003?
Using visual studio 2010 on a PC running Windows XP SP3 (32bit) I am trying to read the output from a serial device but only get timed out error? If I open hyper terminal I can see the output, so the hardware and connections are good and the command to send data is working as well? When debugging I have no errors, when the program is run (in debugging mode) I get a timed out error from after the do loop (test=2) All I want to do is have my device output printed to TextBoxLockOut.Text? Note "comstring" grabs my com port the serial device is using - on this computer it is com4, it is a public string
Dim inputline As String = "" Dim command As String = ""
I've created a SSIS script task for debugging: printing SSIS variables and their values. This is done with (a maybe restrictied version of) Visual Basic. Rather then creating a message box or writing to a file I'd like to write to the debug output of Visual Studio - or to some other window available in Visual Studio when running a SSIS task. Something like fprintf( stderror, "Hello world!" ) in C. I suppose I need to get the Stream Writer Object connected with the debug output. But how do I do this? I also tried Console.WriteLine() but this didn't succeed.
I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen. The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.
Will i be able to successfully install 2010 beta 2 side by side 2008? because i want to test 2010 features and some development toolkits such as silverlight while i don't want to uninstall my visual studio 2008 professional.
I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.
I have embedded the WMP control in my Visual Studio 2010 app which works on windows 7 (Framework 4.0), but installing the app on winXP, I get the following error:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.WMPLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. File name: 'Interop.WMPLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging. To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftFusion!EnableLog].
I guess this is a reference issue, but I have added references to WMP libraries (axinterop.wmplib.dll and interop.wmplib.dll). The WMP works on the XP machine, but not when called from my application.I have searched the web now for 5 days and changed references, and reinstalled the media player on the XP machine, but nothing works.
Our company developed a tool developed in Visual Basic and VBS using Visula Studio 2005. The tool was deployed on Windows XP platforms. Now the new requirements for the tool are to support both Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit I wonderif anyone can share which version of Visual Studio should we use.
I need to write an app for Windows Mobile 6.1 as a winform. I've been doing asp.net pages to run on them before. When I create a project in VS2008, do I select Smart Device? Or Windows and do a basic app to run on it? If I select Smart Device, it asks for the Target platform and I only have:
Pocket PC 2003 Windows CE Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK Mobile 5.0 Smartphone SDK
I developed a small application which accesses a MS access database on my computer using VB.net. I developed the program on windows xp 32 bit. At the moment I am using windows 7 64 bit and the program simply will not run. I get a null reference exception when I try to do anything to the database. I have narrowed this down i THINK to the db provider. I was using Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; and tried using Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;. Neither seems to work. The path to my database is 100% correct. This is the error I am getting:
Null reference exception was unhandled.Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Like I say the program runs fine on the windows xp machine. If it helps the access database file extension is mdb.
I am teaching myself how to work with Visual Studio and adding windows media player so I can play a song but when I follow the code that is the the MSDN under " How to play audio files by using Visual Basic .NET or Visual Basic 2005 I can only get as far as this statment
AxMediaPlayer1 As AxMediaPlayer.AxMediaPlayer I get this error "property access but assign or use its value" I have no clue what it means and I have looked at several treads on MSDN but am still a bit confused as to what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to make this work Private Sub loadButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles loadButton.Click
Am very new to programing and have never done it before.I am working on very small things at the moment like showing the time and date very basic stuff. i have some books and video's so am going over but i just need abit of code for now -

In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides. I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.
