Interface And Graphics :: Visual Studio 2008 IDE Code Editor Settings
May 11, 2008
Does anyone know how to turn off the blank space delimiter of a dot? I have no idea how I turned it on, but now there's a dot where every whitespace charater would be in the IDE's code window.
In C# code, we can just right click on the class name and then select refactor and then extract the interface for that class. I wonder if this could be done on VB. Im using the same IDE VS 2008
I have Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed and lately it is taking longer and longer to bring up a Resource File (.resx) in its standard editor. Some of the file loads up, but you can see that the screen does not paint/render it 100%.I tried doing some searching on the web and the only thing I came across was doing a edit to the GDIProcessHandleQuota registry entry from 10,000 to 20,000. This appeared to work initially, but the problem came back the next day.I am doing an extensive localization project and this is severely limiting the amount of work I get done.
I can't seem to find the shape tool in the toolbox? When I used VB6 there was one, so why isn't there one now? I just want to set up rows of circles so I can change the color from inside instead of using images and saying
VS 2008 / VB.Net / WinForms I have an application setting (Settings.settings) for a project and I am using Click Once deployment. I used the VS Editor to create the setting and I can see the setting in the app.config file
The company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings. However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:
ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb
where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.
I've created a simple vb.net text editor using a RichTextBox for a Logic Program. I've got the coloring(highlighting) to to work except for comments. However it runs really really slow after a 100 lines or so.
Note: I call the SyntaxHandler on the RichTextBox TextChanged event.
I traditionally work in VB.NET, but have been asked to code the latest project in C#.This is fine as I can work in either language, having had to frequently translate C# code to VB in the past and I've no qualms about developing in either. My issue is with the Visual Studio editor and how many of the tasks that have traditionally been automated for me while writing VB.NET code are missing when writing C# code, or involve a larger variety of key-presses.For example, creating a new #region or function. In VB.NET creating a region involves typing "#r", at which point intellisense kicks in and shows me "#Region". I press "space" and "#Region" is auto-completed, thus allowing me to type the region name, then click "Enter" and the closing "#End Region" is automagically added. In C#, I type "#r"... and nada.. I have to either click "Ctrl + k + x" and select #region from the list of snippets to achieve the same effect.Similarly when writing functions in VB.NET ... the autocomplete creates the structure in seconds, whereas C# involves having to manually add the brackets etc, adding precious seconds to the development process. (or perhaps there is another shortcut key combo)
These are just two examples, but there are many others where the short-cuts that the VB.NET editor provides make coding much faster than the C# editor.I'm pretty shocked actually as C# is so often lauded for being "better" than VB.NET.My question is, are there any plugins which allow autocomplete on the C# editor in the same way as provided to the VB.NET editor?
I have a project written in Vb6, and I can't load it into the Visual Studio 2010-editor/compiler, because no wizard pops up. The idea then was to install Visual Studio 2008 and try to get to 2010 via that. But apparently the downloadlink for 2008 is not working. Does anybody have answers or ideas to my problems.
I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information. At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3 Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.
For those you that joined in, I would like to thank you for joining us last week on the topic of Visual Studio Setup.
This week, we have something even better with the team that has built the new editor: Sean Laberee; Kav Latiolais; Selma Ikizto and Brittany Behrens (whom many of you may have already met on the forums) to do a quick walk through of their new features -and of course gather your feedback for the work of sorting through their Beta2 DCRs.
As I'm typing out Xaml in VB.Net Express 2010, it helpfully finishes certain things for me. Most of the autocomplete is fine, but some of it annoys me and it leads me to wonder if I'm missing something or doing it wrong.
If I type:
<GroupBox Header=
It automatically puts a quotation mark before and after my cursor. I've gotten used to the quotation mark before the cursor - I immediately start typing in whatever property I wanted. But now there is a quotation mark after my cursor! I have to reach over to the other side of my keyboard and press the right arrow key to move past it. I find this insanely aggravating, because it breaks my "flow" while I'm typing. Are you supposed to be able to press a close-at-hand key (like tab, but that doesn't work) to move to the other side of the quotation mark or do they really intend for you to have to constantly use the right arrow key?
i'm running Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition (latest service pack ... 9.0.30729.1 SP) on XP Pro SP3 with .Net Framework version 3.5 SP1 I have a rather large project I've imported from Visual Studio 2003 (Standard). The project compiles and runs just fine ... my compiled program itself never crashes.
But while I actually have the code up in the IDE, and simply adding/deleting code the whole IDE will randomly crash (usually without warning) and I loose my changes since last save.If/when I do get some hint of why it crashed, I get a window about illegal whitespace or something.... but that's rare ... usually it just crashes without warning and the whole IDE completely shuts down instantly. just deleting/adding a character is enough to trigger it maybe once every 30 minutes.
This is on a computer that is otherwise very rock solid .... no other program ever crashes, etc.
how to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual BasicI am new to this so I will try to explain the best I can.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out. Or reference?I don't need anyone to do this for me I just need an explanation of how to do this or some kind of reference. Would this be a text template?
So, I've made this project and I have this setting that saves a form's data. Simple stuff like check boxes and such. And it works wonders when I execute from visual studios and such. [code]....
I'm currently trying to call a WCF service dynamically See here, therefore, I'm trying to understand what happens behind, when I add a service reference by the GUI of Visual Studio... What's generated..? An object is created and an implicit reference is created...
Are the references contained in a specific container, a sort of pool?
I need to convert the following code to work in a visual studio 2008 windows form application, the moment ObjectQuery, ManagementObjectSearcher, ManagementObject and ManagementObjectCollection are not valid.
im objectQuery As New ObjectQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter WHERE NetConnectionId IS NOT NULL") Dim searcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher(Scope, objectQuery)

I am using Visual studio 2010 vb asp.net.I want to secure my webpages from direct accessed by unauthorized person or only user can access the page. how to setup Visual studio vb asp.net webpage privacy.or Is there any plugin available for visual studio for securing pages
Single file for all interfaces or one file per interface definition? Balena & Dimauro's of book of 'Pratical Guidelines' advocates a single file called Interfaces.vb/cs to hold all interface definitions. Their aim is to minimise the proliferation of small files, where each holds a single interface definition.I can see benefits to both approaches. Does anyone have any strong views or experience that strongly supports one approach?
I built a form in in vb to look similar to a physical form a client uses to do work orders.Where I am running into problems is when I build the printdocument_printpage using e.graphics to build the labels and the variables like thise.Graphics.DrawString("Customer:", myfont, myBrush, 4.513889, 0.7326389)e.Graphics.DrawString(txtCustomer.Text, myfont, myBrush, 1.052083, 0.4270833)I find it to be very hard to come up with the locations for lines, vars, and labels when I have close to 100 of them. Is there any easy way to
I am currently in the process of improving my options dialog for a winforms application. At the moment I am using a tab control. I would like to create a form/dialog for settings that is similar to Visual Studio's. How is this done? I can see a treeview like control on the left hand side but what control are they using to display each of the options pages, it doesn't appear to be a tab control. I would like to be able to build the controls for each of the settings at design time.
I'm currently making an dynamic interface using the latest version of DevExpress. I finished making the DockManager with multiple DockPanel in it but there's only one problem. If you look on screenshot #1 you'll notice that in the center of Visual Studio, there's no DockPanel (screenshot #2) container for those document tabs. Also, those document tabs CAN'T dock inside side panels, but side panels CAN dock inside document panels (see screenshot #3)
That is what I'm trying to do. You can see how far I am right now on screenshot #4.
So here's a summary of my questions
1) How could I make some kind of main document panels that are filling the blank space between my side DockPanel?
FOUND! Using DevX's DocumentManager as the MDI.
2) How could I make those panel undockable inside side DockPanel but make the opposite possible?
FOUND! Using DevX's DocumentManager as the MDI.
3) How to make the panels "maximizable" like this (see screenshot #5) when outside the main window ?
4) By default, the tabs are located at the bottom of a stack of DockPanel, but I would like them to be ALWAYS located at the top, would it be possible?
In VS2008, I can stub out interface members with the following code using TextSelection to insert the implement line and then "simulate" the Enter key by inserting a new line. However, it doesn't work anymore in VS2010.
CodeClass cclass = {Target_Class}; TextSelection txtSel = {After_Class_Declaration_Line}; foreach (string i in interfacesFullName)
Will i be able to successfully install 2010 beta 2 side by side 2008? because i want to test 2010 features and some development toolkits such as silverlight while i don't want to uninstall my visual studio 2008 professional.
I've been trying to get some help for this in another thread, but it looks like it's a task that is going to need a wider audience to try and find someone who knows something about writing/creating procedural textures at the pixel level in VB.Net. The VB6 example I'm trying to convert to VB.Net is attached to this post.
Is there an easy way to display the rgb code of system colors in VB2008?
That is, I am looking for some code that will retrieve the names of the colors that are used in the system colors and display their rgb codes (and maybe show a sample), so I could display, for example, what the rgb code for "control" is.
I have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.
