i am trying to create a program that connects to a database and shows table fields in listview in windows form i manage to do that but i want now to have a button to take the total of a column in a list box ,lets say from the column "money"?

I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]
I need to create a program that connects to a database and determines if what the user entered is in the database. Trying to do this in somewhat the same way that a translator might workchecking to find the word, and if found replace it with what is in the row beside it in the database)
Anyone have any idea on how i should go about doing this?
I know its gonna involve looping but as to how i am completely lost
Details: I want to compare these above two table1 and 2 . The unmatched records should be save in a new table .

2 Then after searching or reading the record from table and selected fields save the unmatch records in a new table

I'm writing an asp.net page with a simple registration form that connects to my access database and inserts the values in the table. So I have my database, my registration page, everything looks fine in my code, but there's a syntax error I can't seem to figure out. When I go on my webpage and click submit, it says : Syntax error in INSERT INTO instruction.

I have created an windows application which stores it data in a database. What I would like to know is how do I access the tables in the dataqbase and transfer the data in them into textboxes on the forms in my application. I can connect to the database and view the tables, but I have'nt got any idea how to get the data from the fields in the tables into the appropriate textboes on the application forms.

I can't use the httpwebrequest, some java is required on those sites, so i use the webbrowser control.Now I created a form, some fields for input data and a submit button. The coding part is like this:

The problem is that I can't control what happens after submit button is clicked. I need to pause or stop the process at any time. If I exit the program while processing, I can see that even if the window disappear, the program is still running!I tried to use a thread for this, but the subs only get called if I use begininvoke, or invoke on a starter thread.
I need to display all the data in that table but it only shows me the last entry.

I am trying to make a very simple program that connects to a MySQL database using VB.NET. My program only has one form and one label. I setup my MySQL database to have a table and one field (a VARCHAR)called "Tab1". I manually inserted the value "CLOSED" into the Tab1 field using PHPMyAdmin. I want my program to change the value of the field to OPEN/CLOSED and I also want the label text on my form to change too when it's clicked.

I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The table's rows and collumns are filled dynamically based on a selection in a drop down list. Each row in that table would have 2 textboxes, 1 combobox, 2 checkboxes, and 1 button.
I am aware of DataGridView and TableLayoutPanel -DataGridView - I do not like the appearance so I don't want to use it...Also it is not very flexible with checkboxes and buttons
TableLayoutPanel - Will involve many lines of code. Also handling the checkbox and button click events is not very flexible

I've written a small program that monitors the customer field in Quickbooks and query's a database to determine if there are any important notes for the selected customer. This works fine however, I either need the messagebox or a form to come to the front of all open windows on the system to inform the user that the selected customer needs to be reviewed.
How can I ensure that a form (or messages box) that opens in my program comes to the front of any and all application windows that are open?

Notice the fields prodno1 and prodno2 in the table structure.. this is part of a number of sql statements i need to run and put inside a loop. my problem is i want to automatically use this same code such that on the next loop, this sql statement is going to be:

- the table name is now r3 from r2 in the first SQL statement
- there are now prodno1, prodno2 and prodno3 instead of just prodno1 and prodno2
- in the WHERE clause, the p.prodNo becomes p.prodNo2
And so on and so forth.. so for the 3rd loop
- there's going to be r4
- there's going to be prodno4
- in the WHERE clause i will use p.prodNo3

View 1 RepliesI have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
I'm looking for a way to combine a field from multiple tables into a single field in a new table. Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?
