I am getting an error at the "Do While DMReader02.Read = True" line: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." Why would the reader be closed at this point if I am using different DataReaders in the two loops?

Apr 12, 2010Why MS Access adodb in .NET returns 34 in fieldcount when table has 42 fields ?I see 42 fields in table of my MS Access mdb database. But ADODB layer in .NET sees only 34 fields. The Outofrange exception occures when I am calling method getOrdinal("FieldName") of reader class.

Basically I changed the underlying Access (accdb) Table by adding a new field, The new field shows up in the DataSources section of the Solution Explorer and in the "Edit DataSet with wizard" page but when I attach the binding source to a datagrid view, the new field is not there. I also created a new bindingsource but still not there.I just noticed I've another table where I changed the names to something more meaningful, and the old names are still there and the data for those fields doesn't display in the DataGridView

May 11, 2011I'm looking for a way to combine a field from multiple tables into a single field in a new table. Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?

Jan 5, 2011I have been tasked with writing a program for our yearly reviews. We want all of the information gathered in the form to be submitted to an access database. I have created the form and the database. I can send info to the database but it is put on a new line everytime it is submitted. I would like to check the first column of the table to see if the user login is already there. If it is there I would like to update the information. If it is not there I would like to create a new row. This seems simple, but I can not figure out how to see if the user login is already there.[code]...

Apr 17, 2009I've been attempting to tinker around with connecting a MS access database to a vb 2008 app. I've successfully connected and can access the data by using the add data sources tab. But what I'm trying to do is create a form that has a (1) single line text box, (1) button, and (1)multi line text box. I enter a name in the single line text box, click the button(search db), and when the info is found, it is displayed in the multi-line text box.

"Price" is a special one because this is a list menu with different amounts, like 50.000, 70.000, 90.000, and so one. The idea is to make this list menu post to the result page, only to display records under or equal to the given value. less or equal > than 50.000 or 70.000, etc.

Oct 7, 2011how to update fields in an Access database through VB. What I'm supposed to do subtract the quantity of the daily orders from the inventory quantity. My textbook is a little bit vague at this point, because the only way it describes updating the DB is manually through the BindingSourceNavigator. I don't want to enter it manually, I want it to subtract the quantity from the orders table.

Nov 24, 2009I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]

May 1, 2010I need to Update Access Database Table with Data from a Different Table. Not all the rows of original Table to be Updated will be affected. How do you loop through the 2 Tables to do the required Update.
The Table to be updated is called "RecordList" and Table with new Data is called "RecListReport".Every attempt I've made won't work. I tried to Use 2 Datagridviews but couldn't get it to work right.

Jul 14, 2010I have a table in a database that I need to access. At the moment I am trying to get the Table information to go into a dropdown box. I know how to open a database but I don't know how to open a SQL one. Also when I used VB5 I used to "Set" the database to open. When I type "Set" it comes up in the blue letters and then disappears. Has Set changed to something else?
