Jan 22, 2011[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?

Jun 2, 2009I have the following query that executes when my form loads. It's the rowsource for my combo box. The query is fine and populates the combo perfect, however, when i click into the combo box I cannot click out of it or even close the form. I have tried taking out the line of code that fills the form via table adapter on load and it works fine (opening the form unbound by the main table). Has anyone run into this before? I have another combo box on the form setup the exact same way and this is not happening. I've experimented with different datatypes etc....

Aug 5, 2011Lets say we have an Access file in a well known path (i.e. "C:MyFolderMyFile.mdb"). That file does not have a primary key set on the table we are interested in . Is it possible to set one of the fields as a primary key (for example the "ID" field , which is also an AutoNumber data) ? And one more thing : I'd like to change the name of a field on that table . For example , lets say there is a field called "My Field 1" (note the space characters) and we want it to be renamed as "My_Field_1" . If it's possible , I'd like both these changes to be permanent in the data base file itself , not just in the imported DataSet ,

Feb 24, 2009I'm trying to make a database program in VB 2008 and have come across a problem with a query that I'm not sure how to solve. I have a combo box which contains names of teams that are held within the database, when a team name is selected I have 4 queries that will separate players (in that team) by their position, using this information I will then be able to display information about the players in a collection objects so that it can be edited and what not.
My problem is that I need to be able to refer to the records in the query so that I can assign a players details to objects on the form, I've used a piece of code to do so that I used previously to select individual records from a table, however when I click on a team in the combo box it throws up the error: "Could not format node 'ClientQuery' for execution as SQL.". Not being a particularly experienced VB programmer this error doesn't exactly mean too much to me, although I am not exactly sure of another way to tackle the problem.
The code for this query is:

Complex SQL Table Names In Access Database?
Sep 8, 2010I am using OledDb to create/retrieve/delete data from Access databases. At one point in the solution, I the user adds data to a new table and the table name is defined by the user. The obvious problem with this is that the user could add spaces, characters, and Access/SQL keywords that are not allowed in the table name. Later in the solution, the user should be able to identify their saved table and retrieve it. I have considered the brute force method of formatting the input to remove offending characters and then reformat for the user's view, but that seems like something I would like to avoid. I have also considered placing restrictions on the textbox with masks, key event restrictions, and checks for conflicts with keywords, but I would also like to avoid that. So, my question is, does anyone have a creative solution for identifying a table name with something like 'my name is table number *1'?

Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?

Jun 5, 2011I have 2 databases that I am working with. One is a compant customer database and the other is my personal call log. Now I am creating a front end for the Call Log. I was updating my customer list by Importing 2 tables from the customer database, a series of queries would erase all of my info, take all the data from the imported tables and move it into mine then erase the imported tables.
Im trying to accomplish the same in my VB frontend. I can connect and fill datasets from the customer database. I can erase my tables. How do I take all of this data from the newly created dataset and move it over to my empty tables?

1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Question: What do you want ?" If i Write "My name is Jake" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Answer: My name is Jake".If I Write "hello you Hi there Jacob" and click start. Nov 24, 2009I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]

The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.

Apr 14, 2009Visual studio 2005 - vb.net..I have a user control on a form containing 15 combo boxes.All contain Y, N, and blank (for Yes, No, or blank) in the Items Collection property.Each of the combo boxes have a binding source to the same table, different fields.When you select a value Y, N, or blank for any of the fields and do a save, the values save while the application is open.Once you close and reopen, the values are gone.It appears the dataset does not recognize the change, so the values are not getting stored in the database table. Is there something I can do or put in one of the events that would identify this as a change.

Mar 9, 2012I have multiple file upload boxes on a form in my mvc3 application. Request.Files shows 3 files when I put a break point in the below function and look at it.. Problem is other than coding a counter and using a select case I dont see a way to handle saving each file name to the database column it belongs to... Is there away to assign the variable on the fly I guess you could say So that the foreach loop would drop the file in the correct column. Ie handoutFile1, handoutFile2 , handoutFile3, Etc. As it stands the below will overwrite the filename in handoutfile1 every time the loop is gone through. I thought about throwing a counter in the loop and just put a select case on it to assign the db column based on the counter number. Seems like a cheap work around though. [Code]
