VB 2010 - Assignment - Text File - List All Of The Data From Results.txt In The Listbox

I'm studying VB 2010 at uni and struggling with this assignment, I'm stressing now with one week to go before its time to hand it in and still not knowing how to do it (even though i've read the whole textbook!)
I have copied the instructions and the files I have been given.
1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.
2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above). Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains only results for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.
3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.
I am trying to develop an application and am still learning VB. I have a commandline that will list some applications that I need to make selectable to run certain processes based on what is selected. I have already found the MSDN stuff on using the RedirectStandardOutput class to add to streamwriter. What I need to do is read each line and add to a listbox so that the user can select each application. How to read each line of the stream and add to a listbox.

I have a text file and a list box. what Im wondering is how I would get the listbox to list the text from the text file. sure, easy, but wait! in my text file, I listed web addresses and dates with tags in front of them. for example my file would be like: [Code] what would the best way of reading the tags and displaying it right in the list box?
i created a form with a combobox that lists out Assignments ( assignment 1, assignment 2, etc...)......what i need to do is let the user choose an assignment, then the program should look for the matching text file in a folder, ex: user picks assignment 1, and the program will read from assignment1.txt and display the result in a listbox. I have everything except the coding to match what the user chooses and the text file to streamread.
I need to write data from a list box to an lsv text file. I can do that if I rea an entire line at a time and write it out, but the data in the listbox are columnated.For example:Cey,Ron 50 75 75 66.67would be an entire line from the listbox. It was entered into the listbox by reading an lsv text file and using format string to set up column info, but I don't know how to read it back out by column, only by entire line.
In my program i have a listbox populated with data from a sequential text file. [code] Mary, Murphy, 16, 893782, Douglas etc.From here the user selects the person they wish to see displayed in the datagrid with all all other relevant details from the text file displaying. Problem is I cannot figure out how to refer to the selected person and then get it displaying on its own in the datagrid. [code]

How to make a text file importer, I want to know how to import list of names from the text file to import it to the listbox component by using browse commands and button. And by using webbrowse component to load the link [URL] and insert the name selected from listbox from loaded names on the text box of my url and click the button signup.

I would like to create a little list in my Windows Form showing a list of custom colors with their 'friendly names'. Technically it can be anything (ListBox, ListView, Panel etc... whatever).
I simply want it to look something like this:
I would like to store data for this list in a simple TXT file in such form:

And of course I would like each element on such list to be clickable, so if I'd click 'My favourite color' it should return the color's HEX value (#F6A118).
What is the correct way of assigning the selected index's value from a listbox to a variable? The user selects an item in a listbox and then the output changes depending on their selection.
I use:variablename = listbox.text
in the listBox_SelectedIndexChanged event and this works.
When I use the button_click event I use:
variablename = listbox.selectedindex
But this does not work in the listbox_selectedindexchanged event.you let me know if it is okay to use it like I did above or if I will run into problems and why you cannot use the selectedindex method.
So i'm new to working with vba in access and i'm having trouble getting this code to work. What it is suppose to do is take a selected text file and read the original file into a list box. Then there is a second button that when pressed will convert the text file from a pipe delimited file into a tab delimited file and then show the changed file into a new listbox.

I am encountering a problem when trying to write data to a text file. If I put the output into a messagebox I can see it, but when I attempt to write it to a file it is just blank. What am I missing here? EDIT - This is just a simple winform that I specify a path to a local HTML file in Textbox1 and I'm attempting to parse some HREF tag data.

How can I display only the most current results from a text file? I have a button the user can click that needs to display only the most current results from the text file.
I have been taking a class in Visual Basic and am currently working on my final project which I am having some trouble with. I am using Visual Basic 2010 express The project is to create an application that will store data in a text file, specifically, Last Name, First Name, Customer Number, Address, City, State, ZIP Code, Telephone Number, Account Balance, and Date of Last Payment. I have gotten everything done except the ability to search the file by Last Name or Customer Number. I have no idea how to go about this? I was thinking of ways to use indexof or Readline to be able to search the data, but I'm not familiar enough with the code to come up with a good solution. Below is a picture of how my form looks..As you can see, I'm currently using 2 separate forms to get the data from the user. There isn't enough room to post the code for my secondary form, but you get the idea. I would like to be able to enter a search term in the textbox on the bottom right of the form, and either search the data as its displayed in the listbox, or search the actual file? I was thinking that the results would be displayed in a messagebox?

Here is what I would like to do: - Store string data from a 'sign in' form into a text file. This text file must be one that is saved even after the user exits the program. The text file must also be one that will stay with the program even after it is published (executable). - Be able to write to/read from the file for purposes of displaying some or all of that data on a form.
I use an Application Setting to do this - of type 'Specialized String Collection'. I tried this, but for some reason I could not get it to work. It was a good idea, but I need to be able to SEE the data that has been saved, and with a setting it seems like that is not easily done. I've decided that I either need to use a simple text file or a 1-table database for this. I would prefer just a text file, but in either case, it needs to be part of the .exe when published.
I have added a text file to my project, but I am not sure if it will be "included" in the project when I publish it. The path of the file I've added is in 'My Documents', but in my code, I will have to specify the path in order to use Streamwriter. How will this affect the program when I publish it? Im new here and hoping that I post this in the right forum. I am SLOWLY learning VB, and have run into a problem that I cant figure out. I have a standard form that you can enter data into.I want to take that data that is entered, and save it to a text file once I click the submit button at the bottom of the form. I am writing my own script for a simple calculator that determines if a number is prime, and its prime factors.[code]The loopcount = compare - 2 means I want the loop to be 2 less than the square root of the answer so that when do a descending calculation (loopcount = loopcount - 1) it doesn't see if 1 or 0 is a factor of the answer. for the calculations after that, I want, every time n1 = n2 (a whole number factor of the answer), I want to report those results to a text file (n2 and n3) in this format "(n2, n3)" then go to the next line. and continue to execute the loop until the loopcount is zero. Currently, when I run the code, the application closes when I click the prime button (button that runs this code) and I don't know why. This is my first semester in school, and have never coded before, so I am a definite laymen with code, but I really really want to learn it (hence why for fun im just creating algorithms for different things).
I have a data table that has thousands of entries. The table has employee production information: YearMonth, Employee ID, Pages worked and Jobtypes (e,k,o and r). I need to calculate a sum of each jobtype and a sum of pages worked for each jobtype, for each individual employee. I am pulling this data from an Access database and so unfortunately I am unable to use LINQ.[code]...
So I am trying to code something in vb.net 2010 which will have a list box. For example:

How would I display Line number 2 or any other to the user - I tried doing it with a label box like this Label1.Text = ListBox1.Text(2) - does not work.
I have a form displayed where a user can can select a 'function' from a list box. That 'function' has a corresponding ID number which I need to be able to take and use later in the code.The List of functions is preset (about 150+ them and the IDs are already assigned (so I can't just use the index).So if the user selects "Function A", I need the code to set a variable to, for example "42" (or whatever that Funtion's ID is).
I was going to do this using listbox.item and listbox.itemData, but I'm using VB.Net in VS2008 and I understand that function is no longer present (to add ItemData at design time).Here's where it gets complicated. When the form loads it looks at the variable containing the FunctionID and if there is one present, I want it to populate the co-ordinating FunctionName. I can do that if I know the index number, but I don't know how to look at the FunctionID and return it's index (all FunctionIDs are unique).
A) store the info, either in the Listbox using ItemData, in an array (but I'd prefer to do it at design time), or some other way you might suggest.
B) cross-reference the ID and display the name in the listbox when the form loads.
