Nov 12, 2011My program takes user input, replaces all spaces with "+", then inserts it into a search url for a specified web host. For example, the user enters:"How long is a foot?"
The generated URL (in this case I'm using dogpile.com) is:
"http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/web?&q=How+long+is+a+foot"
This method has worked before for me, but now I just get an Internal Server Error every time the code is executed.

Sep 20, 2009I've got a code in VB that will download a txt file from a website. The problem is I want this file to be downloaded into whatever folder that my program is in. for example, if my program was in C:
andom_folder then I would want this txt file downloaded to C:
andom_folder
Here is some of my

But in the spot to put where to place the file, I can't just put C:andom_folder because individual users may have this program installed in other parts of there computer.

May 2, 2012I am using AxWindowsMediaPlayer on VB.NET to preview MP3 files from the web so that the user can choose to download it if he likes it. It works. I just put a link in the URL property and after a while it begins playing. ... after a while, of course. Because it has to download the file first. Perhaps I realized that because of my slow connection XD. But that made me think: how can I tell if the player is currently downloading a file? So that I can put a label saying "Please wait, preparing file..." or something.

In the past I have used the a webclient to do this:

May 15, 2012I have some exe files that I've uploaded into my database as I don't want them to be publicly accessible. I tried using a link button and a generic handler to serve the file using the following code:

The problem: Google Chrome does not treat the download as any other exe, instead after downloading it reports "program.exe is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous." with a "discard" button and the option to "keep" the download is hidden under a context menu.

P.S - I believe the reason it doesn't have an extension is because the picture changes each time the url is loaded (probably through a php code). I'm not too sure on the specifics, but the lack of an extension is what I am having problems with.

Mar 9, 2009I have been trying to download the file from a virtual directory ( which is pointing to some other location) within the web-folder. I have implemented 2/3 ways on doing that, but none of the ways download the file. The asp .net page is not even showing the error, its showing a blank screen. Once they log into the client the people who donated or bought VIP on my forums will have access to all my applications I have made. It will most likely show a list of all my applications in a listbox/listview. I currently do not have the code to be able to do this nor do I know how to do this at all. I basically need to download a program into memory and run it from memory so my application will never touch the users hard drive. I would also need this connection to be encrypted by either packet encryption or SSL. If packet encryption is possible I would like to know as I can't find any examples of it in VB.net

Jun 16, 2009I am trying to download a zip file(which contains 4 text files) from a secure website and getting html page in return. If I do it manually I get the zip file. I am using visual basic express. I am very new to .net programing. why I am getting html page instead of the zip file. The manual process is to login, click ebill tab and select the month from list and click download button, which then open up the save dialog box with the zip file name.
