Downloading Into Memory And Running

Jul 13, 2010

With my new client which is linked with an IP Board forum. Once they log into the client the people who donated or bought VIP on my forums will have access to all my applications I have made. It will most likely show a list of all my applications in a listbox/listview. I currently do not have the code to be able to do this nor do I know how to do this at all. I basically need to download a program into memory and run it from memory so my application will never touch the users hard drive. I would also need this connection to be encrypted by either packet encryption or SSL. If packet encryption is possible I would like to know as I can't find any examples of it in VB.net

Downloading Without Memory Stackup?

Aug 8, 2010

I have a code in which it Downloads files from an HTTPresponse. The download is perfect but it stores the file inside the memory so when I download a 2 GB file my ram goes off the charts. How can I download a file without it storing into my Ram? I checkedvarious Downloading softwares but none of them use up RAM on each download.

Dim length As Long = theResponse.ContentLength 'Size of the response (in bytes)

Running Out Of Memory?

Jul 28, 2009

I am working on a project for a friend. It loads all php files in a specified folder and looks for text in them and if it finds a text it replaces it, then it saves the file and moves on to the next.

so it is like

txt = txt.Replace("j", "from")

there are around 13,000 lines like this that it searches the files with, it always runs out of memory at the same line. I need a way to cut down on the memory usage, it is already running on a background worker, but didnt seem to help any.

File Overwrite - Downloading The Updated Version Of The File Running

Nov 8, 2010

I am trying to download a file off my web server (easy) but the file its downloading is the updated version of the file running. I finally was able to program my automatic update software the program simply downloads a .txt file from my web server, reads it, and if the the version = (new version here) then download. If not, then go to another form. The problem I am getting though, is when the version is outdated, the file will go to download the new .exe and it gets and error saying "File already exists"

Unable To Diligently Close The Excel Process Running In Memory

Apr 21, 2010

I have developed a VB.Net code for retrieving data from excel file .I load this data in one form and update it back in excel after making necessary modifications in data. This complete flow works fine but most of the times I have observed that even if I close the form; the already loaded excel process does not get closed properly. I tried all possible ways to close it but could not be able to resolve the issue.

Find below code which I am using for connecting to excel and let me know if any other approach I may need to follow to resolve this issue. Note: I do not want to kill the excel process as it will kill other instances of the excel

Marshal.Copy Error When Running Program, Complains About Protected Memory?

Dec 5, 2010

I get this error on this line: System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.Copy _

(Scan0, Data2, 0, Data2.Length)

"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I also sometimes get an error on this line:

Dim dc1 As IntPtr = CreateDC("DISPLAY", Nothing, Nothing, CType(Nothing, IntPtr))

What I'm trying to do is take a screenshot and then read the colors of pixels. I currently have a working vb.net copyfromscreen method but it's SLOW and using 100% cpu usage.

Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory / Often An Indication That Other Memory Is Corrupt

May 22, 2007

Im getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.

Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

Thread And Memory Leaks - Memory Usage Jumps About 1000k And It Never Goes Back Down

Apr 17, 2011

I've noticed that every time I start a new thread in my program, the memory usage jumps about 1000k and it never goes back down. I have ensured that the thread is no longer running, and only one instance of my worker thread is ever running at a time. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem and ASyncOperation to get stuff done. The program starts using a Sub Main in a module that uses STAThread; I read that using STAThread instead of MTAThread makes it impossible for the Garbage Collector to get in and consider objects for garbage collection. However, when I change the STAThread to an MTAThread, the WebBrowser control in my frmMain cannot be instantiated.

I get this exception:

Code: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadStateException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

Additional information: ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment. I do threading with the WebBrowser control, so will using MTAThread fix my problem? If so, how should I partition my code so that the WebBrowser control won't be affected by the above exception? I call the thread repeatedly with a timer (although only one instance ever runs at a time), and my program's memory usage starts at about 5000k and can jump to 300,000k+ depending on many times the thread needs to be called.

2008 Express Edition: Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory, This Is Often An Indication That Other Memory Is Corrupt?

May 27, 2009

I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.

I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.

Here is the programs I have installed:

Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2

andom_folder

Here is some of my

My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile _

"define where file should go here")

But in the spot to put where to place the file, I can't just put C:andom_folder because individual users may have this program installed in other parts of there computer.

Tell When AxWindowsMediaPlayer Is Downloading?

May 2, 2012

I am using AxWindowsMediaPlayer on VB.NET to preview MP3 files from the web so that the user can choose to download it if he likes it. It works. I just put a link in the URL property and after a while it begins playing. ... after a while, of course. Because it has to download the file first. Perhaps I realized that because of my slow connection XD. But that made me think: how can I tell if the player is currently downloading a file? So that I can put a label saying "Please wait, preparing file..." or something.

Asp.net - Downloading Exe Files From Database?

May 15, 2012

I have some exe files that I've uploaded into my database as I don't want them to be publicly accessible. I tried using a link button and a generic handler to serve the file using the following code:

Context.Response.Clear()
Context.Response.ContentType = "application/exe"
Context.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "filename=program.exe")
Context.Response.BinaryWrite(binaryfile)

The problem: Google Chrome does not treat the download as any other exe, instead after downloading it reports "program.exe is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous." with a "discard" button and the option to "keep" the download is hidden under a context menu.

serve exe files stored in the database?
