I am making a simple program that encrypts a text file and then decrypts it: why i get an error when i use this
Public Class Form1 Code: Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click System.IO.File.Encrypt(TextBox1.Text)
What is the code to open a text file and append data to it, in visual basic express edition?Normally one would write:open "data.txt" for append as #1 but visual basic express does not accept it.
If it is at all possible, I would like to print a page that is layed out with labels filled with text from previousley stored information from the program. now, obviousley, because the text can change in amount, and so the labels need to be able to change in size, and if at all possible allow multiple lines, though if there is no way to do it, then an unchagable text box would serfice.
There is a problem though, the fact that the labels will be changing size means that the position of the labels needs to be variable to the previouse. Example: the box above needs to be bigger, so the box bellow needs to drop down equall to the amount that the above grows.
Well, i was thinking of making a Tetravex solving program in order to practice my code writing skills (language will propably be Visual Basic) and I need help finding an algorithm for solving it. For those that don't know what tetravex is see this http:[url]... . The only algorithm I can come up with is the brute force way, place a tile randomly in one corner and try every possible tile next to it and continue the same process, if it reaches a dead end revert to a previous state and place a different tile.
I have been tasked with making a program that combines text files.. okay.. easy enough. Problem is now I have been asked to make the same program start from the second line of the text files to get rid of headers. I am currently using StreamReader to do this but not sure how to make the reader "line feed" before it reads the data. Any help would be much appriciated. Current code below..
Private Sub BackgroundWorker2_DoWork(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs) Handles BackgroundWorker2.DoWork Dim writer As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(Environ("userprofile") + "\Desktop\CombinedFile.txt") Dim files As String() = Directory.GetFiles(TextBox1.Text) Dim filename As String
Well I recently found a code for making a file spliter, the code is simple (of course need some modification) and it work great.
The code is like this:
Dim iFileSize As Int32 iFileSize = textbox_size.text Dim SplitFileStream As System.IO.FileStream
[CODE]...
The only problem is understanding the logic of the code. How can it work? How can it know the next time of bytes to write is 200 to 400 if the split size is 200?
I want to test out a code line with about 50,000 characters over about 7 lines, but VB takes about 2-3 minute breaks for every line of code I change and it crashes every 1-5th try. I moved the code into a public shared sub in a new class, and closed the class tab, but still VB can't resist checking though the code all the time.Is there any way I can prevent VB from checking that class/code?
My "Learn Welsh" application is now near completion, I only have a few things left to add / fix then I will share it with the world. Here's a screenshot of it so far :
As you can see by the picture above, I have created a simple feature in my application to pronounce letters from a word to assist users to learn the welsh alphabet. What I would really like to do is make the program pronounce full words. I already know how to make use of the system.speech reference in vb, here is a quick sample of code:
Dim speak As System.Speech.Synthesis.SpeechSynthesizer = New System.Speech.Synthesis.SpeechSynthesizer Dim word as string = "hello" speak.Rate = 1 speak.Speak(word)
Now what I'm looking to do is make use of a welsh based voice and make an application like the one below:
I'm developing a Windows Service, but for some reason, the changes I'm making to my code file aren't taking effect. I clean, build, and rebuild the solution as well as all the files that I'm changing, but nothing's happening. Is this a problem with the installation of the service, or something wrong with my IDE? I just now thought that maybe I shouldn't be rebuilding the files...
One of my forms has a few textboxes that are required. If I try to use an if/then statement, the form shows a message box stating the error but then continues and eventually crashes because the textbox wasn't filled out. How to I make the program stop what it's doing if the box isn't filled out?
The program consists of making 2 text boxes, one labeled Age, and one labeled Name. The Name text box must return the name in all uppercase. If the Age text box isn't filled with a numerical value, you should receive a message saying "need a number" and return your cursor to the age box.2 command buttons "Process" and "Exit"
I tried getting started, but I usually always work better when i have a beginning!
I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".
Imports System.Data.SqlClient Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click Dim myConnection As New SqlConnection Dim myCommand As New SqlCommand
This switching from VB6 to VB.NET is starting to become a major pain I have a program I am making that loads a list of Vehicles from a text file to ListBox1. When the Selected Item in ListBox1 is clicked, it brings up the Image of that Vehicle, called from an external Image folder, so new Images can be added. I have an 'Add Entry', 'Delete Entry', 'Refresh List', 'Save Changed List', and 'Exit' buttons, all coded and working as I want them to - Everything is working better than I planned, without having to Google my a$$ off finding 'snippets' - I figured most of it out myself - What I am trying to do now is have a ListBox2 populated with a section of the text file:
[Code]...
Part in ListBox2, which when an entry THERE is Selected, it can be edited in TextBox2.Is this as hard as it seems? I want all the Vehicle Stats for that Vehicle to show when the Vehicle is Selected, and have the Stats section editable...
Here is the code for my program. We are making a membership list and it needs to load with just the names in the txt file that is in the debug bin. The txt file is set up in one column and holds the member name and the next line is member number and so on. Information is read into an "array of structures" and the display is supposed to be ONLY the names in the listbox on load. This is my problem. I had it displaying all th txt file info and I just need the names. I tried what you will see in the code but it is not working and my book is less then helpful when it comes to examples and/or knowledge on the subject. Though it could be too many hours spent trying to get it to work.
Imports System.IO Public Class frmMemberList Structure Members Dim member As String Dim number As Integer End Structure
I have a program that needs to display a playlist of songs, for a band performing someplace, from a .txt file. The songs in the file are listed as follows:
All You Need is Love-Beatles Rock 4.25
[code]....
The first line is the song's title and group name. The second is the songs genre. The third line is the songs length, 4.25 is 4 minutes and 25 seconds.upon clicking a button, I need to display a playlist from this .txt file based on the number of minutes the band has to play, minutes entered into a TextBox, and the songs genre, selected from a ComboBox. The songs cannot repeat and must be random.I have already coded the program to read the .txt file but have not clue where to start with the rest.
i read a text file and i need to overwrite the first line of the text file this is my code
Private Sub readProvisionOrder() 'Loads ProvisionOrder from text file Dim sFileName As String ' name of file in the directory Dim sr_ProductsFile As StreamReader 'file reading variable
I'm using VB 2008. I'm making a project which stores patients name, reason for visit etc in a text file using filestreaming like:
Dim fs As New FileStream("H:/ICS3U Final Project/Betolli.txt", FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write) Dim textfile As New StreamWriter(fs)
Is there any way the doctor can literally open up the text file by a click of a button. I don't mean like : read all lines or a STREAMREADER.I want to physically be able to open the text file which is located on the computer harddrive so the doctor can read it.
I'm using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, so I have a combobox that gets filled with items from a data base made with Microsoft Acces, the combobox is filled with the values stored in a column from a table in de database so the user can select an "option" from it, I want to add labels that show the values for the corresponding row of that column. I used the Data Source panel to drag and drop the labels corresponding to the values that I want and it works it show the value that I want when I compile the application (at least I think it does, it could be that it's only selecting the first entry) the problem is that when I select a diferent entry on the combobox the labels don't refresh with the new values. How can I do that?
edit
how does Visual Basic Populates de combobox and gets the value of the other Acces DB entrys to change the .text value of the labels? And I mean the actual code that does that.
I want my text box to filled by an alphabet first then the remaing characters can be anything. Also i have drop down which is having arithmatic functions.(< ,> , = ,+ etc) If the user selects < or > then the value entered in the text box should be numeric. and if the user selects "=" then the textbox value should be string.
If you enter "net users" in the command prompt all the local users on the pc appear. I want a textbox in my app, that if a user types in "kyle", and click the button, the first code I gave starts, and after "net users" the text in the textbox is there as well, so it will look like this:
i want user when clicks a button to show a selection around a richtextbox and not inside it selecting the text... what i have right now is this: richtextbox1.focus() that will indeed focus the richtextbox but the problem is, it only selects its text content.
What i want is something similar to a Yellow or Blue Square showing around the richtextbox i want to "select", so the user will properly notice the richtextbox more easelly.
i tried messing with the vb express rectangle stuff but i cant get it to draw over all objects, its actually always displaying below all objects in the forum
EDIT: ive also tried using a tiff picturebox with a drawed empty rectangle on it, but the dreadish thing when put over other objects like textboxes, it simply just displays the color of the form emitting any other objects in between, setting the background color to transparent under web colors had the same problem...
i have just begun to program so I am a complete beginner. but i cannot find out how to add a shape to my form. I am reading a book that is a guide to beginner programmers but it simply says to use the shape control, but I cannot find that. I am pretty sure that the author was using a different version of visual basic so I just need another way to insert a shape on my form. also, what are the units used in the version 0I am using.
The program I am trying to modify was initially written using VB 2005 Express. I have subsequently downloaded the 2008 version. The program creates a monthly spreadsheet from a template. The old code that will no longer (highlighted and underlined) compile is as follows:
Im Using a datagridview to display items in an invoice. when the user enters the data in, they use a DGVcombobox to select which particular item they want. what i want to know is. can i change the text of the combobox programatically after the items have been filled
Edit The DGV in question has 2 predefined columns one is a comboboxcell and the other is a text box cell im trying to fill it using
I am making a hangman style game in VB 2008 Express. I am a beginner and instead of making any graphic related content (i.e. the hang man), I am using a 3 strike system. So far, I am just about finished. Only problem is whenever I choose a letter that is incorrect, it adds 1 to the strike label. The problem is, the second time I choose an incorrect letter, the "1" does not change to 2! The line is as fallowed:
i am trying to write a simple programme to allow the user to open and read data from a RS232 port on a medical equipment and save the data into text file. Iam not a techie. I am totally new to programming save a few projects in foxpro(lol.....yeah oldshool).
