Making A Project Which Stores Patients Name, Reason For Visit Etc In A Text File Using Filestreaming?
Jan 18, 2012
I'm using VB 2008. I'm making a project which stores patients name, reason for visit etc in a text file using filestreaming like:
Dim fs As New FileStream("H:/ICS3U Final Project/Betolli.txt", FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write)
Dim textfile As New StreamWriter(fs)
Is there any way the doctor can literally open up the text file by a click of a button. I don't mean like : read all lines or a STREAMREADER.I want to physically be able to open the text file which is located on the computer harddrive so the doctor can read it.
I have an application in VB 2008 Express that uses a DataGridView to display rows of information. I have a DataGridViewCheckboxCell on each row for selecting the row so the user can mass delete the selected rows. For some reason, whenever I try to select a row via checkbox it adds another row to the DataGridView, is there anyway to disable this?
I'm working on a project which stores reference numbers. The numbers usually amount to millions so speed has become an issue. My current project works on a very simple SQL database with two fields - an ID and the actual string. It works extremely well until the number of rows goes into the millions when it then goes to an absolute crawl. Each string in the database must be unique.
I'm very new at using Visual Studio (about 3 days!). I want to create a project that I created into an executable file. The help menu states that I should go under the 'File' drop down menu and select 'Make' to convert into an .exe format. However, the 'Make' selection is not present under the 'File' drop down menu. How can I make a project into an executable file??
I am making a project on VB.NET, after the completion of project, is it possible to install it in anyone's computer?I mean to say, the project which I have made in VB.NET 2008, can be only run through Visual Studio,
I have made a project(made a new data set and forms made by dragging data set entries to form ) in vb.net in which i used ms access as database and now i created a setup file for it but when i run is its giving error regarding some connection to database.?
Would it be possible to make my program visit a website and basicly filling out a text field and using the submit button in a form? For example; I have a text field named "Field" in my webpage, and I want my Visual Basic 2008 application to visit that page, and automaticly fill out that field named "Field" with a string I gave my application, and next to click on the submit button. The purpose for this is because I want that the users of my application can post feedback on my webpage. I was looking for something like a MySql client but it's best if I would encrypt/hide the protected information such as table names or MySql passwords. And I believe that these users need to have specific MySql drivers installed to use it. So this idea sounds better. So, is there a way to navigate trough a website like this?
I am new here; say to everyone first. Here is the a question for coding list box; it has two part: first part: Create a project that stores personal information for a little electronic "black book"; the fields in the file should include name, phone number, pager number, cell phone number, voice mail number, and Email Address. allow the user to enter the data into text boxes. (This part is very easy, The trouble maker is in the second part).
second part: create a second project to load the names into a list box. perform a "Look Up" and display the appropriate information for the selected name. The second part should be very easy to someone here; please write codes, I have stuck in the second part for couple of hours.
So I am trying to change the directory where the files are beeing saved. I've made a file where the location is saved. But for some reason, when I have saved the new location and restart the application, the file is is cleared, leaving it empty.
Show Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I've been given an assignment in school to complete and I've encountered several problems. I'm suppose to design a form for patients to fill in whenever they are not registered in the system. The GUI is done already but now the problem is that I'm "not able" to link the "Next" Button which can found at the bottom right of the 1st page to Patient's Data / Preblock Data tab to the Epidural tab.there is only one page/form done, the rest all falls in the same page/form but just in different tabs only.
I am making a simple program that encrypts a text file and then decrypts it: why i get an error when i use this
Public Class Form1 Code: Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click System.IO.File.Encrypt(TextBox1.Text)
This switching from VB6 to VB.NET is starting to become a major pain I have a program I am making that loads a list of Vehicles from a text file to ListBox1. When the Selected Item in ListBox1 is clicked, it brings up the Image of that Vehicle, called from an external Image folder, so new Images can be added. I have an 'Add Entry', 'Delete Entry', 'Refresh List', 'Save Changed List', and 'Exit' buttons, all coded and working as I want them to - Everything is working better than I planned, without having to Google my a$$ off finding 'snippets' - I figured most of it out myself - What I am trying to do now is have a ListBox2 populated with a section of the text file:
[Code]...
Part in ListBox2, which when an entry THERE is Selected, it can be edited in TextBox2.Is this as hard as it seems? I want all the Vehicle Stats for that Vehicle to show when the Vehicle is Selected, and have the Stats section editable...
Here is the code for my program. We are making a membership list and it needs to load with just the names in the txt file that is in the debug bin. The txt file is set up in one column and holds the member name and the next line is member number and so on. Information is read into an "array of structures" and the display is supposed to be ONLY the names in the listbox on load. This is my problem. I had it displaying all th txt file info and I just need the names. I tried what you will see in the code but it is not working and my book is less then helpful when it comes to examples and/or knowledge on the subject. Though it could be too many hours spent trying to get it to work.
Imports System.IO Public Class frmMemberList Structure Members Dim member As String Dim number As Integer End Structure
I have a program that needs to display a playlist of songs, for a band performing someplace, from a .txt file. The songs in the file are listed as follows:
All You Need is Love-Beatles Rock 4.25
[code]....
The first line is the song's title and group name. The second is the songs genre. The third line is the songs length, 4.25 is 4 minutes and 25 seconds.upon clicking a button, I need to display a playlist from this .txt file based on the number of minutes the band has to play, minutes entered into a TextBox, and the songs genre, selected from a ComboBox. The songs cannot repeat and must be random.I have already coded the program to read the .txt file but have not clue where to start with the rest.
I have written a small application that uses a dictionary file (txt file) which is stored in named directory currently. Can I embed the txt file into the project, so that i can distribute to people and not have the need for a separate text file.If this isn't possible, How do i publish the application so that it includes the txt file?
I have a problem with this I do this text file I learned how to read information from it and the elements But how can I include it to send it to my Dr. Do you put him in the Zip file with my Project I do this (Project then add elemnt) Or make it in desktop
I made a text file (.txt) in my project by going to Add New Item and then Text File. I want to have my text file be loaded into the rich text box i have on my form but it doesn't work. It says it can find the file. This is my code:
Is there a way I can open and read a text file within a .NET project? I know I can use the System.IO.StreamReader class to do it for a Windows text file.I'd like to store some SQL scripts for upgrading my database in text files within my project. Since I'm writing this in VB I can't just paste the scripts directly into my code due to line continuations, where I could if it were C#. These are very long scripts.
I am looking to make a "user.settings" file or something similar that stores information for my application. I'm not sure how I would read a text file per line and do something depending on what it says.
Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this
Team 1 Team 2 Team 3 Team 4 Etc...
The code is...
Dim Save As New SaveFileDialog Save.Filter = "Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|ALL FILES (*.*)|*.*"
I'm trying to include a few text files in my project. These files are read and used to make decisions in the program. Ordinarily, I would just set the file path and open the file via StreamReader, no problem. However, this application now needs to work on other computers and I want to include the text files in the application directory. I've researched two ways to do this:
1) Include the files as resources and reference them via my.resources.
I've gotten this to work ok, except the files are opened as strings upon starting the application. They are fairly large files, which I imagine is taking a lot of unnecessary memory. Also, StreamReader wont work with these files as resources, or at least I can't figure out how to. My application is already based around using StreamReader so I don't really want to change this.
2) Include the files as additional items. I know how to do this too, but I can't reference the files programmatically.
Can I use a resource text file via StreamReader or how would I reference the files if they're included in my project directory?
I have no code specifically for this part of my project just saying this ahead of time.I have not used text files that are inside my project but I want to be able to open the file when I load my form and save it when I close my form.I know how to save manualy and same with opening but that defeats the purpose this has to do as much as possible on its own.All I have are code from a project I made a while back which was a notepad program.[code]however I need this to all happen on its own and it needs to install these text files with the program hence why they are in with the project there are about 30 text files that will need to be with it so if I can get help with one then I can figure the rest out.
i'm making a VB 6.0 project to copy files to WCE 5.0 Device. i copied a code i found in msdn but when trying to compile it send me an error: Expected: Identifier[URL]..
Private Declare Function WaitForSingleObject Lib "kernel32" ( ByVal _ hHandle As Long ByVal dwMilliseconds As Long) As Long
I need to make an array of images using references to the resources folder. The following is my code which does not work: Dim imgPictures(8) As Image imgPictures(0) = Image.FromFile(My.Resources.cat_1.ToString) How do I reference the images sitting in the resources folder for this task?
I am making a calculator for a school project, I want to have it so it looks similar to windows calc ( with one button for each number & only one text box),My code has a few blank spots but so far it is :
Public Class calc Private Sub Btn1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Btn1.Click IOBox.Text = IOBox.Text + "1" End Sub
So there's lots of examples of how to do this if your text file happens to be in XML format. However, my text file is not in XML format and as it contains over 172,000 rows I'm not that keen on adapting it (it's a dictionary)! The text file has been included in the project as a resource. So far I've got a DataGridView (could use a DataRepeater if easier?), a BindingSource and a DataSet.
The DataSet has a DataTable already defined in the designer with one column.I've managed to load the text file into a String and then create a StringReader based on that String variable, however I cannot find anyway of loading those strings into the DataTable.
Dim listWords As String = My.Resources.WordList Dim strReader As New System.IO.StringReader(listWords) 'What now???There are some examples of using OleDb functionality but all assume you're loading from a text file residing somewhere in the filesystem, not a project resource.(I'm also assuming that on building the application the resources get embedded (somewhere) rather than being accessed from [AppDir]/Resources/[filename] ??)
I have an ASP.net 3.5 website and I am using vb.net in VWD 2008 Express, I am also using MS SQL Server 2008 Express, I used ajax tabs and a textBox characters counter control developed by [URL]..The database is attached with MS SQL Server Management Studio Express and the files are stored in the SQL default "Data" folder.
The whole project's code and forms are stored in a folder in my E drive. I need to hand the whole project to another coworker who have to finish it, please describe in steps how can i make my website portable (like i can put it all in a folder that he can carry around in his flash disk). One more thing, I already finished my side of the project, I need to ship it out to this other programmer.
Can anyone suggest something like a: Checklist or Must Do list to achieve this?PS: I have had a problem trying to move the project from one server to the other, the project seems to look for the dlls of the AJAX control and the textBox counter where i originally unzipped the folders in which they cam in, which i think was on my desktop, although when i added those controls to the Tools tab, i created a new tab, then i choose the dll from the where i unzipped the controls source code, aint that enough?
